This episode was classic for so many reasons. Phyllis Diller was really a very funny lady. And this was just her TV jokes. HUGE 5th Dimension fan that I am, it is nice to see their performance here within the context of the entire show; and also see that they were a part of more than just their main performance. And I was always a fan of Frankie and Annette's movies (as were many). This episode I'm sure was a good ratings grabber for the times. Also, the commercials are just a great study of our own media propaganda during that era. And how cool to see one of my favorite soap opera actresses (Leslie Charleson, before she became popular) in a Playtex Cross Your Heart commercial.

@@Timotheusism That's from their 1967 album, "Up, Up and Away". If you like their classic sound, you will love this album. Also, the next album from 1968, "The Magic Garden" is beautiful and mysterious. It is one of my all-time favourite albums. You're right about how they sang with such harmony and style. The 5th Dimension remains my favourite group, since 1967.

This is an entertainment program from the 1960’s. It was put on in a theater in Hollywood, California, a suburb of Los Angeles, California. Hollywood was a center of entertainment because California offered to the filmmaking industry great weather and the beauty of mountains and oceans. Filmmaking became quite successful in Hollywood and the surrounding sprawling jurisdictions.

From what I have read online, when ABC converted the Hollywood Palace Theatre to color, they used RCA TK-41 cameras. But, this episode doesn't have the 'look' of the 41's. This looks more like 'plumbicon' cameras, like the Norelco PC60's that CBS used. It has the 'softer' look than the 41's, which were very sharp and tended to be more responsive to reds and blues. It looks really good.

Huge fan of the 5th Dimensions, loved their greatest hits on cassette so much I bought the double disc greatest hits on CD. As kids we used to impersonate them and I was always playing Florence LaRue because of my small size/height. I just loved Billy and Marilyn as a couple seemed different but complimentary at the same time. She came from a Catholic background, used to teach and he was straight from the church with his soulful - preachy style and delivery. The tall guy in the group Lamont used to take pictures for Jet Magazine - Johnson Publishing. Love the Beach Party movies and Frankie Avalon was such a cutie. Here is my Annette F. story.... Around the mid to late 1970's , here in Chicago they started showing re - runs of the Mickey Mouse club from the 1950's. My classmates and I couldn't wait to school was out to run home and watch these old episodes of MMC. AF was everyone's favorite, the boys thought she was cute and the girls wanted to be like her. There was a series starring her in the MMC and her life seemed so fun, simple and carefree!!! We come to class the next day and MMC was all the talk in school. My mother was always saying, " I can't believe you are so invested in something that almost twenty something years old or as she would say this Old Shit!!! She used to watch MMC when she was younger and AF was one of her favorites.
