The Hollywood Palace was one of the greatest variety shows on the air and was a staple in our house. Having one of the greatest comedians of all time as host is the reason why.

The "Smithers Sister" at the end, whose feet always kill her, was Peggy Mondo. She originated the role of Ethel Toffelmeir in the Music Man and reprised the role in the film version. Interesting that Sammy Davis Junior did a number from that film in this show. Peggy was a working actor during the 1960s and 70s appearing frequently as in McHale's Navy. She finally got a spot on the sitcom "To Rome With Love," as Mama Vitale for one season. And I do believe the middle "Smithers Sister" is Iris Adrian.

I do not know about show biz enough to make some enlightening show biz comment but do know enough about life to know a good man when I see him. Nice job Mr Sammy Davis Jr. lol those sisters made me smile..lol

Great performance by Sammy Davis! Big fan of Jack Benny!! The Smelly Sisters were funny, but I have to go there, people kill me being "All Groovy and thang when they were we'll pass the age of being Groovy"!!! Just a little too old and from another generation to be Groovy, if you know what I mean!

If I'm not mistaken, the middle "Smithers Sister" is Iris Adrian, who appeared many times with Benny and goes all the way back to Laurel and Hardy (Our Relations). She also shows up in some Jerry Lewis pictures in the 60s. Sure sounded and looked like her!

The "fella" who was married to Liza Minnelli is Peter Allen (1944-1992). Minnelli claims she did not know he was gay at the time they were married. The documentary (and subsequent musical) "The Boy From Oz" is based on his life and marvelous work.

Jack Benny could get more laughs per syllable of material in his act than anyone in stand up or radio. Matter of fact the quality of the actual written syllables of material wasn't all that crucial to the number.

Back when fat shaming was acceptable and encouraged.
@peterandolph76284 жыл бұрын
And how do those doing the fat shaming discern who is lazy and who has hypothyroidism, or some type of metabolic anomaly or arthritic condition? Shouldn’t they interview the people they are insulting before hand? Maybe take a look at their medications, injuries, eating habits and metabolism rates and then make a fair judgement as to whether to insult or not insult? Then they could feel good about insulting others, especially since they themselves couldn’t possibly have and problems, seen or unseen. Or wait.... could it be that insulting other people for any reason might be a much bigger problem of character than any weight problem could ever be?
