Love Bing Crosby and all the old movie stars. They were great!

49:14-49:44, a montage of the shows' guest hosts saying goodnight! What a way for The Hollywood Palace to go out!

What an end of an era. The 70s marked the end of the good times.

Aww, they made the final show so sad. I would have thought they would want to go out with a bang and bring in as many headliners as they could. They could have saved the retrospective for a future special.

Every year they had an anniversary show featuring highlights (and Der Bingle), so it's fitting for a send off...

While perhaps, not as popular in its original TV ratings, as "Ol Stone Face", Ed Sullivan, it introduced King Family to my generation & many others over those 7 years, thanks for the great memories

With Ed Sullivan’s last live show, airing just a little over a year after this Hollywood Palace finale, came the end of the big, brash variety shows on TV. NBC gamely tried to resurrect the format in 1973 with the NBC Follies and in 1980 with The Big Show, but both were short-lived, as TV (and its demographics) had changed forever.

Also by then, many of the big music acts that made shows like this were playing concerts in much bigger arenas than in the past and were commanding much bigger money than in the past. Where this is really notable was the 1988 revival of "The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour," which flopped in no small part because of that.

Hi! Thank you for this show! Now I have a request: may you please load episode #62 & episode #67 again? KZbin canceled them due to absurd copyright reasons. You can try and load them on VIMEO: they don't make too much a fuss there. Thank you soooo much from the bottom of my heart. Ciao!

I finally got this off of eBay is an audio cassette of the same episode and it was also the final show of the "Hollywood Palace", and there was one piece of audio which was almost intact where the announcer was saying "'The Hollywood Palace' is brought to you by..." and it cuts out until Bing Crosby comes in. As I was listening to the final show as seen here by this video, it had no commercials, but the rest are still intact, except the end of the final show had a voiceover announcing a new show that replaced the "Hollywood Palace" was the "Lennon Sisters Hour" with Sammy Davis Jr. and Jack Benny where was celebrated his 39th birthday, and also another voiceover announcing Richard Nixon's "State of the Union" address at 1 PM, and it ends with an announcer saying "'The Hollywood Palace' has been brought to you by..." and then it goes to blank. This recording that I got off of eBay came from an original ABC broadcast from 2/7/70 recorded on a vintage Shannon blank cassette tape which dates back to about 1970. Originally this last show was in color and it was originally videotaped, but this was taken directly from a 16mm kinescope black & white print.

They should have brought out Donald O'Connor to be with Bing on this last show. It would have been the icing on the cake.

@Marvin The Jazzman Here's a YT link that uses a portion of the color tape of this episode. You're welcome.... Bing Crosby sings "You Haven't Lived Until You've Played the Palace"

Nope. From 1965 onwards it was broadcast in color. Unfortunately for this episode, the only version in circulation is a black and white kinescope.

Strangely, Bing looks younger than in the premiere.
