Actor Harry Carey's silent westerns helped launch the career of multi-award winning director John Ford. Carey's son, nicknamed "Dobe" because of the reddish color of his hair, followed his famous father into films launching his career with a starring role in Ford's "Three Godfathers" (1947) with John Wayne. Raised during the Golden Age of Hollywood amongst legends, Dobe married actor/teacher Paul Fix's daughter Marilyn. Paul, of course, was Sheriff Micah on "The Rifleman." Melinda Carey, Dobe and Marilyn's daughter, shared her memories of growing up with cinema legends on A WORD ON WESTERNS.
