As a black woman I am sick and tired of the lazy race swapping and the pandering it entails. There are countless black folk lore and tales to be had in the African continent but instead Hollywood keeps making iconic characters black for their shallow diversity needs. It's just so lame and I hate it. Ariel is one of my favorite Disney princesses and she never needed to look like me for me to identify with her and her passion for learning and adventures. And now Robin Hood is going to be race and gender swapped for a black woman. Ugh, I can't stand the stupidity and hope every last bit of this SJW woke trash crashes and burns. It upsets me to no end but it's good to find real nerds here on KZbin who understand that.

@@spellman007 I do realize it will still exist but that doesn't excuse the extremely LAZY job their doing. I'm a straigh white woman and, believe me, I'm sick to my stomach with all that is happening and the destruction of culture that's taking place right now. You'd expect a woman to be happy with all the "girl power" and "force is female" stuff but no. Hell no. I'm in my 40's and I grew up with Star Wars, Star Trek, Indiana Jones and so on. I want female heroines like Ellen Ripley and Sarah Connor for heaven's sake, women who embrace motherhood and allow men in their lives. I want to watch movies that inspire me, not make feel bad because I'm a white straight european (that will never happen). The worst part about SJWs taking over is that they don't even care about the franchises they ruin. They aren't fans and they don't even want to be fans, they're just upset that something non-SJW has fans. And it bothers them to no end that fans don't like their SJW stuff, so if they don't like something they're going to make damn certain that it changes so that the fans don't like it anymore. Non-SJW fans don't care if SJW content exists. If they don't like it, they simply don't support it. But to SJWs, everything must comply with SJW ideas or it cannot be allowed to exist.

It's a classic moral hazard: they get rewarded with social status and psychological gratification for making sacrifices on other people's behalf by making things less fun. The moment people have a skin in the game and truly personally care about something, they usually start making damn sure that the price paid is the lowest it can be, the benefits are tangible and as certain as possible, and the side-effects negligible or non-existent. There are no such concerns if other people shoulder all the burden.

When I was a nerd in high school, those people who were discriminated against usually found their friend groups with us, and now the preppy assholes who looked down on the rest of us went to college, got bullshit degrees, and now insist the people they shoved in lockers are the intolerant ones. These people would just as quickly use a slur as condemn one, that’s why so many of them have nasty skeletons in their closet that constantly get found. I think another difference between the "nerd" and the twits is that nerds are inquisitive and introspective, combined with a sense of humility... questioning their ideas and themselves to continually learn, re-evaluate, understand, and improve, contrasted to adherence to dogma that shalt not be questioned. This allows them to really delve deep down and to explore ideas - thus why you get better worldbuilding, stories, characterisation, etc., because they're being looked at and scrutinised from every angle. It's kind of like a comparison between scientists and religious fanatics. The scientists want improvements and know they must question everything to get there, even the fundamentals. If you could disprove fundamentals in science, you'd be lauded for it, even if it threw all the research in the world into question. ESPECIALLY then. You handed everyone the missing piece they've been looking for. The religious fanatic wants society to stay static for thousands of years. They think the perfect answers are already found, so any attempt to "improve" it would bring us away from perfection. Doubt is seen as a personal flaw, not a potential issue with the dogma. If you had irrefutable proof that it's horseshit, they'd deny their own senses and reasoning, and they'll admit it. They'll also destroy you and your proof so nobody can hear it. Nerds have a huge overlap with scientists. The woke are exactly like a medieval cult of religious fanatics and witch hunters, just without a God. They'd claim that paper bags are racist before they'd argue their way out of one.

The underlying issue is that the "creative types" are not creative types at all. They're just pretenders. Con-men. Wankers who wax poetically, hoping that no one realizes they're full of shit. When real creative types make something, it generates a LOT of conversation. Whether you like it or hate it, you will respect it. And sometimes you'll have different opinions based on the work. (Universally loving Stanley Kubrick was not universal. Nor probably should it be.) When these tossers make a work, the only "conversation" is a whole lot of public flagellation about how racist or sexist the public is for not watching the movie. You would think they'd have learned from the music industry that attacking your customers simply isn't a good idea. But these uncreatives don't care. Another important distinction between 'nerds of a certain age' and the woke brigade is that 'nerds' kept our interests in the face of, often intense, social pressure to recant them. In the 80's being the kid who played dungeons and dragons in the math room at lunch wasn't a positive thing. Being a girl who played dungeons and dragons in the math room at lunch meant you were the bottom of every possible social pyramid. We know from those early experiences what bullies and bullying looks like - and if they couldn't intimidate and harry us into compliance when we were children, what chance does this new manifestation of would-be tyrants have of succeeding now we are adults? The woke, whose weaponry is social ostracism, face resistance from a people who have already proved immune to their tactics and do not bow to gain acceptance - and we know the lore.

_Now everything has to be depressing (movies, TV, Books and Comics)._ It was the same in the early 1970s, in the era of stagflation, the Vietnam War winding down, the Energy Crisis. Films were gritty. But by the mid-1970s the tide began to turn, with films such as _Jaws_ and _Star Wars_ bringing in simple, entertaining stories told well, and earning big box office receipts as a result.

I want to believe that we'll return to that. All this garbage nowadays doesn't appeal to any human being. We can already see business-minded individuals creep back into these corporations and kick out the parasites. They either do that or they'll all go broke and get swept away, so real creatives can enter the market. It can't be long now until they ran out of old franchises to bastardize. Then they HAVE to make new stuff, and they can't. They're bleeding out.

And as part middle easter female from the Balkans I mostly ignored swj and wokeism as an american whatever. We have issues but race and gender are not real issues, we've had horrible wars recently, but we're in EU now united in diversity and all that. But fuck if I'm not upset at what Amazon did to Tolkien's work and I'm not even a fantasy fan, I'm into sci-fi. The violation and desecration is so offensive, so vile, that it has moved even me. Sir, you made me travel back in time to when I was a teenager. At they time there was a list of requirements: more boxes you tick more the nerd is strong in you. 1. Love for science, math and technology. Eventually also history but only the military one. 2. Attraction for science fiction. 3. Attraction for Japanese animation. 4. Collect comics or manga 5. Have a huge library of fantasy and science fiction books. 6. Socially awkwardness. Have few friends and a magnet for bullies and girls but for the latter the polarity is inverted. 7. At 8yo have a perfect knowledge of UHF propagations and antennas because you struggled to tune your TV to see that certain vintage show that passed only on the shitty secondary channels. 8. Designed some wild contraptions like computers, robots, airplanes, power armors etc. 9. Raided a junk yard to obtain parts for the contraption at point 8. 10. Actually build some of the things you've designed. 11. Made your parents afraid for your social awkwardness. 12. Made your parents afraid that you could accidentally burn your house. 13. Once you got inside to the chemistry lab at the high school you immediately started to figure out how to make explosives. 14. You ended up choosing a STEM faculty at the college. 15. You attend various nerdy conventions on regular basis 16. You have done cosplay at least once. 17. You loves tabletop games and role play games. 18. You have done a watching marathon at least once. 19. You have no interest in sport and your fitness is poor.

I will always say that the thing that makes a Nerd a Nerd is that they really do care about the media (or any habit) they consume. A fan of a subject may enjoy a movie, or like a game or even a sport. But a Nerd will truly fall in love with something. They will adore it and care about it. It means more to them than simply some fun diversion. And you can have Nerds about anything in the world. It just so happens that comics, speculative fiction and RPGs were things that were rarely massively popular The LOTR films work because Peter Jackson was a Nerd. He loved those books and seemed willing to do anything for the film to work. Tolkien was a Nerd. He loved his Languages and delighted in playing his games with them and making a world they could live in.

These groups shall always be lead by women; - No white male character shall be allowed to poke fun at any character from an oppressed minority, instead he shall be taught a lesson...

The great loss in film is the B-film, a lower budget production that can take more risks and let filmmakers experiment. Now everything has to be an ultra-safe billion dollar affair with a massive franchise like the MCU. Even in TV influential shows like star trek or firefly that might have only lasted a season or two, aren't desirable compared to 12 season epics like game of thrones that clear the broadcast schedule and sell streaming subs.

7:39 I'd argue it was the opposite. After so many fans complained about the 'bad CGI' in the prequels and new special extended editions. A HUGE part of the marketing for the Force Awakens, Last Jedi, and Mandalorian was how they were using majority practical effects just like the original trilogy. They proudly showed off Sean Penn in his Fat Alien suit covered with slime and wrinkles for Force Awakens, JJ Abrams posed with a real X-Wing built to scale. For Last Jedi there were photos going around of those crystal foxes in the caves of the final battle movie going viral on social media. And like the suckers we were, we ate it up rather than asking about what direction the story was going to go.

Love your videos, man. Hearing the alphabet gang entrenched in Hollywoke called out by someone of intelligence, experience and articulation warms the cockles of my nerdy geek (or is it geeky nerd?) heart. I almost wish we could go back to the days when genre projects were largely ignored and the gems may have been few and far between but they were fairly obvious and you could tell that even those that weren't the best at least were made with care and maximum effort. Now, there's so much fool's gold and costume jewelry to sift through to find the genuine gems, it almost makes the search disheartening. Put it is still satisfying to find that hidden gem once in a while, and exclaim, 'This is awesome! I thought they weren't allowed to make movies (shows) like this anymore!'

It is great to hear you encapsulate what so many younger voices are starting to call for. The aggressive attack on the garbage culture around us, while maintaining a logical and well thought out argument is what we all need, and you deliver it so on point. I hear their calls rising on the net but I love you put into words what many of us 'older nerds' think. Hopefully Vesuvius will erupt soon. 🌋🌋🌋

This admittedly inspires me to focus on building my own original story ideas and finding a way to get more invested in them. Because if the mainstream generation is failing to reach an audience, it would be a hilarious vengeance to rise up and overtake their own audience from the shadows as we fill in a specific demographic that mainline Hollywood ignores. Even if we don't reach mainstream, we're still ten times more successful than they are, because people actually like our stories.

I am not a comic book fan, but there is a comic series (don't know the name) that a comic writer started because he got tired of all the garbage. He has gotten millions of Kickstarter donations, making the usual suspects angry. Oh, and the irony is he is black. The book I am holding, to self promote, is a scifi novel "Icarus Falling" I wrote because I am a nerd. No SJW to be found; just adventure. My point is, we true nerds need to start doing our own thing and support others like us. Time to walk away from the big bully companies.

@@n.d.m.515 I think the comic series you're talking about is called "ICOM" and it's specifically from the new "Rippaverse" comics established by YoungRippa35. That's exactly what i'm talking about. He's more successful because he's fulfilling a niche market and giving them exactly what they want, stories, not politics within stories. I rest my case. Paul, I first knew you (as so many in the U.S. did) through Dr. Demento on Sunday nights. It's telling that a member of the Frantics now finds himself on the "wrong" side of the culture war. It directly reflects the gargantuan (and unfortunate) leftward shift since the 1980s. A shift which has become every bit as obnoxious, totalitarian, and fun-hating, as the original Moral Majority. Except, the new Moral Majority (I call it 2.0: the woke secular edition) has 1,000x the power, money, and influence than a bunch of plastic-haired televangelists ever had. My hope is that Moral Majority 2.0 eventually paints itself into a corner and burns itself out, as the original did, and we can eventually look back on this stupidity with the same head-shaking "How did they ever think that was a good idea?" pity once given to Majority 1.0, only I also hope that the people attempting to turn our pop entertainment into a rainbow 1984 church of Woke brow-beating, get taken to the financial cleaners. Nothing will teach them the error of their ways, faster.

Your comments on creativity are spot on. One of the things that I enjoy attending DefCon each year is the creativity of the people giving the talks. It wouldn't occur to me to hack a Rumba. I watched a talk at DefCon regarding exactly that subject. I marvel at the creativity and curiosity of the presenters. I think that the same curiosity that drives people to figure how technology works and then configure the same technology to do something that was not intended is the same imagination that created the intellectual properties that you mention in your video. Thank you for the commentary!

I was a huge fan of the Mandalorian and was thrilled to see Luke's appearance in the final episode of season 2. Then, Disney fired Gina Carano over a simple tweet and poisoned the whole thing for me. I can no longer watch any Star Wars content (not even the de-specialized version I have.) Hopefully, the sense of betrayal will eventually fade and I can enjoy the content again, though I don't think I'll ever renew my subscription to Disney+, given the company's behavior.

I'm with you, but don't forget everything they did on the sequels before that. They had already ruined everything. Mando basically happened by accident because KK was desperate to sign anyone she could when TLJ was bombing hard, after she had just announced a whole trilogy for Rian (lol). That's when Favreau got to jump in, having been turned down for the sequels. KK also signed the GoT showrunners after TLJ, but then quietly unsigned them when they ruined GoT. She had no idea what she was doing, that's why TLJ is TLJ. Her mismanagement was discussed openly before TLJ came out (production troubles on every movie were mentioned in the Hollywood Reporter) but when TLJ came out they hid behind Hollywoke politics to distract from their disastrous failed product. Gina was our assassin, sent in to expose the Loserfilm feminist hypocrisy, and she succeeded in that mission perfectly. The media establishment will keep lying and saying we harassed Kelly Marie Tran, but everybody with functioning eyes could see that the real bullying was THEM harassing Gina. Bullying her. Cancelling her, trying to destroy her life. Right out in the open, no shame, no remorse - no conscience. That's just what they are, they're monsters. And it's good that Mickey took the side of the bullies. Mickey is a monstrous bully too, and is NOT on our side, never was. We have to accept that Star Wars is not Star Wars any more, it's just a branding mask worn by Mickey. Same as Marvel, which also does not exist any more, and is just a branding skin of the Mickey creature. And Favreau started that too, the MCU! Without Favreau, Disney wouldn't have either Star Wars or Marvel. They would still 'own' the IPs, but it would all be turned completely to dust, without Favreau. Mando S2 was the perfect follow-up to the glorious Humiliation of Abrams with Mando S1, and gave us real fans a beautiful funeral for the true, dead Star Wars.

@@Rezzanine true enough, though I think good world-building is naturally downstream of the passion and effort you mention. In the end, I just got tired of being gaslighted every time I pointed out something that didn’t make sense in the universe by people saying what doesn’t make sense in the universe doesn’t matter for “the story.” It’s Star Wars for crying out loud; the story is nothing without the creativity of the universe and the way it’s presented.
@Rezzanine
@Rezzanine 2 жыл бұрын
@@onlyonestarwarsfan5337 Yeah, you're right, the world building would be a byproduct of the passion and effort. Gaslighting is the right word. It's a damn shame Lucas sold. I actually appreciated the prequels at the time (and even more so now) and thought the criticisms, though justified, were far too harshly and insultingly delivered. Still, no matter the criticisms, Lucas (and Lucasfilm under his management) never, ever stooped so low as to insult paying customers, unlike the... current management.
