The album was “And Justice For All”, came out in ‘88. Hence the album art showing lady justice broken. Blackened was the first song on the album and was written by Jason Newsted. This was his “first” album with Metallica as the new bassist after Cliff Burton died

There may not be any Hetfield "yeeaaahh!"s on the studio version but in concert I'm sure its peppered with them. ...Justice is my favorite album from them, lots of hidden gems on there. It's a cold, bleak, dry album that was "oddly" engineered but features some of the most complex song structures they'll ever write, which is what speaks to me.

'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' has the second best YEAH in their catalog (at least to me- 'Fuel' is first). There's also some 'Yeahs' in songs like 'Helpless' and 'Four Horsemen'. But you are right, the bulk of 'yeahs' didn't happen until the 90s. i think 'Load/ReLoad' has more 'yeahs', making up for the whole catalog!

My 1st time seeing Metallica was on the Monsters of Rock tour. Kingdom Come ,Dokken , Metallica , The Scorpions and Van Halen . You can ask anyone who saw that tour that it was Metallica's message to the world that they had arrived and in the mood to kick every ass they saw. They blew every band on the bill off the stage. This song was the preview to the new album that wasn't released yet. My friends and I looked at each other and said well if the rest of the album is like this we are in for a major ass kicking . We weren't disappointed . And Justice For All was probably the last true Metallica thrash album as The Black album only had moments of thrash.

It was Harvester of Sorrow. Saw them on 2 shows on the Monsters of Rock tour and they played Harvester. They did blow everyone off stage. The LA Coliseum was insane. About 15,000 people rushed the stage. Eventually, they pulled the power on Metallica 3 songs in because it gor dangerous with all the chaos.

When I was a kid I had only heard the Metallica songs on the radio and I was a 90s kid so I only knew of their softer stuff. My dad had ajfa so I decided to listen deeper into them and man, when the CD started playing and you hear that guitar slowly creeping louder and louder. I was like what the fuck this is Metallica??? I was raised on this music since early 80's, All 4 of my Sons, I made sure they knew and respected my generation/music, as it now flows in their veins. The trademark of ...And Justice For All is an almost inhuman darkness, the riffs like steely bars full of spite, sorrow and anger. This is where Metallica was after the death of Cliff. This album is the first technical thrash album ever, with mathematical precision. No emotion, just heavy mathematically precise riffs. People say they don't like the mix on this album but I beg to differ. The clinical coldness is perfect!

The band from the beginning swore up and down that they would NEVER be known as a commercial band and HATED any and all who were apart of it. This was why so many fans can't stand the black album because it is when they did go commercial and the fans like myself, from the beginning, felt betrayed in a way. They also said that they would never make a music video for any of their songs because it wasn't yeh way music should be lived, enjoyed, listened to. Low and behold, this album launched their first ever music video. Soooo fans prior to the black album lost all faith I'd you will in the band and didn't believe in the music anymore.

I also understand why some fans were angry with them when they released the music video for One and whatever they did after the black album but them going mainstream was going to happen in one way or the other . Songs like Fade to black were the early signs that Metallica is not going to be Slayer who mostly remained the same .

I'm an old school Metallica fan. This is when Metallica was great. No disrespect to them in anyway. I still believe Metallica is a perfect entry level bend for those who don't listen to metal. My buddy who only listened to rap started listening to them and now he loves mainstream metal. It's a start lol. Thrash, nu, and industrial are still my absolute favorite genres of metal. Doom and black metal are the two genres I can listen to but I just can't get into. Also Lars isn't a strong drummer but he works perfect for Metallicas style. He's more of a pace keeper for the band.

There is or was no resurgence due to stranger things. The band still actively tour the world and churn out amazing music. They've been kicking ass since '81 and they still play sold out shows wherever they go. Either live or in studio, they continue to play at 100 mph. I'm kind of a fan.

This wasn't the first album i ever bought, but it was the first i bought that had any real lasting impact on my life and musical influence. ...And Justice For All kicks your ass Through your face from open to close. It's weakness was the bass being far too low in the mix, (and you can get bass-fixed versions on the internet) but even so, it's an absolute classic of thrash metal. The subject matter, the guitar layering,, the complexity, beauty and headbanging power of it all, it's just a masterpiece and i'm sure that's been said about it many many times.
