I remember standing in line outside a Tower Records waiting for this album to be officially released at midnight. At 12am, they started playing the entire album on the speakers while we made our way to the sales counter. That would be my first time hearing this track, and a couple more before even buying the album. It was also the last Metallica album I would ever fully enjoy. The controversy of the black album isn't that it is terrible. In fact, it is one of the best rock/metal albums from start to finish. But it was such a departure from what we, as fans, expected from Metallica that it was hard to reconcile that it was still the same band. Suddenly, they were making music videos, getting radio play, and climbing the charts? It wasn't the Metallica many of us wanted. But putting expectations and bias aside, it is a great album. When you get around to it, check out some of the lesser known tracks: "Of Wolf and Man", "The God That Failed", and "My Friend of Misery".
@amberhoward78072 жыл бұрын
What a cool memory though.... it does suck that we put so much pressure on these bands to always be the exact replica of their older stuff we know bc we forget these bands have tons of pressure from their record companies. This is why albums are becoming less and less these days. Bands and artists are pushing away from the pressure of an expected album and are now spending their time on dropping singles or EP's that have a couple really good songs songs on it instead of a CD with some good songs on it mixed with songs that could be considered good to some of their fans. They would rather spend time on songs they can actually work on and songs they know will do good. But oh what an experience it would have been to wait till 12am to get an album! I've never done anything like that besides go to a 12am showing of Harry Potter before... haha! Nothing epic like this!
@GMJacobLewis2 жыл бұрын
@@amberhoward7807 Yeah, music these days is not the same as it once was. Don't get me wrong! There's still great music and great bands out there. But just as some bands look only to make those hits and win audiences, many reactors focus only on the music that get them the most views. After the umpteenth Metallica/Megadeth/Slipknot/Pantera reaction with the same set of songs, it really starts to come down to the reactors to make their video standout and interesting. I could name a dozen bands with a hundred tracks that people might enjoy, but we'll rarely see anyone touch them because it doesn't get them clicks!

Back when it came out I used to tell people that instead of complaining that Load sucked, they should just make the mental adjustment of trying to judge the record as if instead of Metallica it was a new band's first album, and then they'd be able to appreciate it.

I have listened to this song since it was released. I think I was 12 or 13. I still forget how damn hard this song goes. Over the years there have been a few different meanings given. So the year this album came out, I was working at a small company. My desk was in the server room and I could close the door and listen to the radio on low. It was around Christmas and my boss and coworkers were playing Christmas music, and it was like three albums that they'd just rotate all day. After about two days I was climbing the walls. The rock station I was listening to had a noon all-request hour, so around day three I called them up and told the DJ that he had to play Sad But True for me because the Christmas music was driving me crazy. I then held the phone out the door for about 10 seconds so he could hear it, and when I got back on the line he was like, "Yeah, no problem, I got ya." Sad But True came on about five minutes later.

I was a fan, so I inquired about the show. They said the opening act was boo'd offstage and everyone just kept yelling 'Oz-zy!' I felt anger creep up to my ears by the time I returned to my desk. I turned around and told our 'stoner' crue, 'I hope they never come back here. And mark my words...you'll be begging one day!' 🤣 How dramatic I was...standing up for 4 peeps I don't know, like they were family. I wore Metallica shirts from then on out of spite. Haha. Black album: Sandman, Sad But True, Unforgiven, wherever I may roam, nothing else matters are all their main songs. One was from and justice for all. Turn the page was on garage Inc which was all covers.

I think Fade to Black, Creeping Death and Memory Remains are a few of my favorites!!! I know the last one will probably be frowned upon, but that’s the only newer one I care for…St Anger and after we don’t even discuss!
