The album was “And Justice For All”, came out in ‘88. Hence the album art showing lady justice broken. Blackened was the first song on the album and was written by Jason Newsted. This was his “first” album with Metallica as the new bassist after Cliff Burton died

There may not be any Hetfield "yeeaaahh!"s on the studio version but in concert I'm sure its peppered with them. ...Justice is my favorite album from them, lots of hidden gems on there. It's a cold, bleak, dry album that was "oddly" engineered but features some of the most complex song structures they'll ever write, which is what speaks to me.

'Crash Course In Brain Surgery' has the second best YEAH in their catalog (at least to me- 'Fuel' is first). There's also some 'Yeahs' in songs like 'Helpless' and 'Four Horsemen'. But you are right, the bulk of 'yeahs' didn't happen until the 90s. i think 'Load/ReLoad' has more 'yeahs', making up for the whole catalog!

My 1st time seeing Metallica was on the Monsters of Rock tour. Kingdom Come ,Dokken , Metallica , The Scorpions and Van Halen . You can ask anyone who saw that tour that it was Metallica's message to the world that they had arrived and in the mood to kick every ass they saw. They blew every band on the bill off the stage. This song was the preview to the new album that wasn't released yet. My friends and I looked at each other and said well if the rest of the album is like this we are in for a major ass kicking . We weren't disappointed . And Justice For All was probably the last true Metallica thrash album as The Black album only had moments of thrash.

I seen them for the 1st time on that tour too. My area's lineup was Metallica, Van Halen and the headliner was Iron Maiden. I think I was 9 years old at the time. This show literally shaped my life.

It was Harvester of Sorrow. Saw them on 2 shows on the Monsters of Rock tour and they played Harvester. They did blow everyone off stage. The LA Coliseum was insane. About 15,000 people rushed the stage. Eventually, they pulled the power on Metallica 3 songs in because it gor dangerous with all the chaos.

It's about the end of the world. When they say "watch our mother die", they're talking about Mother Earth! It's an apocalyptic song! The intro is one my favorite openings of any album, period. It gives me chills in anticipation of what comes next. It’s not the first Metallica song I ever heard, but …Justice is the first Metallica album I ever bought. Fight Fire with Fire was the first Metallica song I heard and made me want to listen to them.

When I was a kid I had only heard the Metallica songs on the radio and I was a 90s kid so I only knew of their softer stuff. My dad had ajfa so I decided to listen deeper into them and man, when the CD started playing and you hear that guitar slowly creeping louder and louder. I was like what the fuck this is Metallica??? I was raised on this music since early 80's, All 4 of my Sons, I made sure they knew and respected my generation/music, as it now flows in their veins. One of my Sons is a Special Op Sniper, and during their training, continuing tactics, they ALL listen to this music, because he says it puts them in the ZONE! This wasn't the first album i ever bought, but it was the first i bought that had any real lasting impact on my life and musical influence. ...And Justice For All kicks your ass Through your face from open to close. It's weakness was the bass being far too low in the mix, (and you can get bass-fixed versions on the internet) but even so, it's an absolute classic of thrash metal. The subject matter, the guitar layering,, the complexity, beauty and headbanging power of it all, it's just a masterpiece and i'm sure that's been said about it many many times.

The ya's started during the Black Album. Bob Rock, who was their producer at the times, wanted James to emphasize more while he sang. A Year and a Half in the Life of Metallica will show the progress of this. During the recording of Enter Sandman, James uses the line "Woman" instead of Ya as a mock to what Bob Rock wanted him to do

Right off the rip I gotta say this record had the heaviest drum sound out of all their albums ! And dare I say it was their thrashiest since Kill Em All . But they added some modern proggy elements into it since then with the structures of the songs on this record .
