Oh boy, David was so pissed off at that because of the auto tune. Despite him being very sick with a high fever, he knew he could sing the sh*t out of the song but they messed with it. I don't blame him for being angry about it. He is a highly trained professional singer/performer. I'm surprised that the show did that though.

And that's true for so many Metal artists. There is always a misjudgment on them. Quite a lot of them are down to earth, cool people who just love music and creating music that can spark something in the listener to where we can feel we're not alone in our views. I love all kinds of music, Metal being one of my top favorite genres.

@@JustTanya., this is spot on. I was aged 3 when I first started going to shows and many of these were metal shows. Metal bands often especially get excited when they see people bring their children to shows; seeing a younger generation cutting their teeth on their tunes. I am certain it is a very exciting feeling. Being young often came with the luck of getting to meet many band members from a great deal of metal bands, especially if they were playing a smaller venue. To date, the nicest interactions I have had would have to be with Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse, the members of Cradle of Filth (though Dani doesn't go on much) and the members of Between the Buried and Me. Not everyone in the rock scene is G.G. Allen!

The guy was a senior and David was a freshman. He probably broke 1 of David's ribs. David only set 1 thing on fire and that was the rabbi's van. David was expelled from the school for having a Sports Illustrated or at least that's the reason they gave when they expelled him.

@@mickisitterding5621 yeah I’ve read several articles and interviews with him. He was classically trained as a synagogue cantor but got kicked out of 3 different Jewish schools. He went to school for pre-law and got into several law schools, but criminal law was the only thing that interested him and he couldn’t stomach the thought of defending a guilty person so he didn’t go. He became a nursing home administrator instead, and got fired from one nursing home for using the company printers and fedex account to make/send promotional material for his band 😂. He started at another nursing home but then Disturbed got big so he quit.

Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel, who wrote this song, shared the disturbed version on his social media. It’s the only cover of his songs that he has ever shared. And he had said that his original version from the 60s was a warning, but the disturbed version is the rage at a warning unheeded. Paul Simon also said that the lead singer from disturbed was born to sing the song. He truly loved what he did with it. And that I think is the biggest compliment ever.

The arrangement behind this was off the charts and superbly done.......this band gets top kudos for this effort on recreating a classic song from the 60's....it was done in a much different format but held true to the original in lyrics and message of the song.....just a magnificent job

The lyrics were verbatim. Simon & Garfunkel approved of Disturbed’s rendition and told them they made the song their own. Simon & Garfunkel added a link to their Facebook page so everyone could go listen to Disturbed’s version. Neon God refers to technology. Talking without speaking ......texting....hearing without listening......we all do this we hear but we’re too involved in “me” to listen to the message. God: David do you want the voice of an angel or the voice of the devil? David: YES !!!

To me, this song represents loss of communication and contact within society, and the increasing isolation of each individual within society. They create beauty that is never shared or appreciated. Every individual is trapped in their own personal hell. At the end, the phrase "the words of the prophets are written on the subway walls, and tenement halls" says to me that graffiti are the words of the prophets. I actually think Simon & Garfunkel would mean exactly what Smokey said if they had written this song today. When it was written that stuff wasn't down there, only posters etc. Unless you are thinking graffiti that says something like "Talk to each other!" or "TV/Technology is killing us" in that case yes, that would be a warning to mankind.

“Graffiti are the words of the prophets.” That’s definitely what that line means, and if you look at it more closely, it has an even deeper subtext. The people who write graffiti on subway walls, and especially in tenement halls, are considered the lowest of society. The young, the poor, the homeless, the “crazy”- especially for the really out-there graffiti like the stuff Genesis mentioned: “technology is killing us!” etc. This song says that those people and their words are not something we should look down on in disdain, but that they are actually Prophets, delivering holy Wisdom to the world. Perhaps even that only those who are considered the lowest of society are even *able* to fully understand such holy Truths. The only ones with the clarity of vision to perceive them, whether from an actual divine source, or just from a deep understanding of the world and where the patterns are leading us, due to their many experiences in the harshness of the world.

A song that was written many moon ago, that you can correlate with today's climate and how we communicate with each. You can also interpret "Neon God" with technology and how it has taking over our lives, I understand this was written years ago and has a different meaning, but it's funny how you can connect a song written years ago and it relates so much to our times. Land Of Confusion is also another cover by Disturbed that also could have been written yesterday! As the lyrics coincides within the realm we live today.

I would have agreed with you except I've seen a ton of reactions to this tune with nobody realizing what the song is saying, what it's warning us about. This lyric video allowed them to understand what this song is about. Smokey was SPOT ON in his analysis and there are a crap ton of reactions to this cover with people just going "wow, his voice" and not getting the message which is that technology divides us, it keeps us from communicating with each other. When Simon and Garfunkel did this they were worried about what "might" happen with technology (they were worried about TV and could never have imagined the smartphone, internet and social media). This song is darker because this is exactly what DID happen to the world, we are living this crap now. I'd rather people actually got the message than "ooh and ahhh" at the video or even the live performance. I was impressed by this reaction, we need more like it, not less.

Yes it's VERBATIM. The studio version draws you in with the lyrics. Great story telling. The original was written and performed by Simon and Garfunkel known as "The Sound of Silence". The message was the lack of communication and/or their lack of effective communication. Like the film The Matrix we are plugged in into a fantasy world a virtual reality. 😎 Technology has consumed us to the point that not only though we no longer communicate with one another on a personal level but we no longer can identify with our humanity to love one another EMOTIONALLY. Back in the sixties radio was a well known technology but then TV was introduced and the world was captivated (NEON god). Today's technology Not only has surpassed that but added insult to injury to the human equation. People are so entrenched that they no longer can identify what the problem is. The music sheet represents a group of people and the instruments represent the other half of group of people but nevertheless neither two can communicate therefore you have the sound of silence And no one dares to disturb it. Humanity is so caught up in The technological wonders! There are ads, commercials you name it advertising and promoting and we're all caught up in it. The words of the prophets are Written on the subway walls And tenement halls And whispered in the sound of silence." “people talking without speaking” and “people hearing without listening” Today's technology has made that far more apparent than ever! "And the people bowed and prayed To the neon god they made" We are plugged into technology That it has become a religion a way of life that we all identify with. Humanity, people have given their livelihood to pray to this neon God! Social networks, online video chats, texting etc etc etc etc. The message from the original "Sound of Silence" by Simon and Garfunkel was a WARNING and the Rendition by DISTURBED is the ANGER for not heeding that Warning! When you get a chance listen to the live version of The Sound of Silence by DISTURBED on the CONAN O'BRIAN SHOW. David Michael Draiman, the lead singer for DISTURBED did a magnificent performance that day even though he was sick with the cold & flu.

Yes it's a cover. A cover usually is word for word. I don't know about the Door's covering it but Pentatonix also covered Sound of Silence. They are an acapella group. Acapella means no instruments. It's all their voices. And they are the Pinnacle of acapella groups. You might try doing just a little bit of research before you react to a video. Somebody mentioned Garfunkel is his last name. Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. It's the shame that you did not show the video moving as opposed to stills because then you would have seen David Draiman start singing in a normal voice and relaxed face into full-blown rage. David Draiman was raised as an orthodox Jew and is classically trained as a singer. He either was or was supposed to be a cantor. . A cantor sings Everything the rabbi just read from the Torah. Canter's usually have very deep rich voices. If you were at Friday night services it'll hear a cancer is a beautiful sound regardless if you understand Hebrew or not. I don't understand it but I appreciate the artistry ofthecantor. . In an interview you can find on KZbin David Draiman talks about how they were working on this cover for years before they came up with what you see now. Oftentimes singers from metal groups are overlooked as having very good voices. When Simon & Garfunkel released Sound of Silence many people took it to be related to Vietnam. That people needed to speak up about Vietnam not remain silent. the lyric says silence as a cancer grows. But in an interview Paul Simon said that song was written years before Vietnam. Hello darkness my old friend I've come to talk to you again refers first to the fact that Paul Simon would go into the bathroom and play his guitar with the lights off because the Acoustics in there were good. So hello darkness my old friend refers to being in the dark bathroom. I've come to talk to you again refers to the fact that he has returned to play his guitar. As Anton Chekhov said the role of the artist is to ask questions not to answer them. So what song means to an individual can be quite different than what the songwriter had in mind. This is why many people interpret the sound of silence as referring to being silent regarding issues of the day. And if I remember correctly Disturbed's cover was done 10 years ago. And obviously David Draiman ends Up singing rage as the emotion. Many people see the original sound of silence as a warning and Disturb's version is the rage that we have not heeded the warning that Simon and Garfunkel sing about. We have yet to learn from the past. Pentatonix's cover was done around 2017 and it is a lot more hopeful.

Honestly, anyone who heard more than The Sickness should be aware of the power of his voice. Not even on some of the slower/more melodic stuff they have did like Darkness, but just in general you can tell when he's not going crazy with silly throat growls.

Neon god refers to technology. We now our heads( into our tablets, phones and ipods). We'll text more than speak. We are toxic online because we hide behind our screens. Children are playing video games more than getting fresh air. Now we're living in an age where you are almost banned from outside and you have to organize your life around this technology we are all slaves to. We'd rather talk trash online than stand up vocally (silence is acceptance) for people being abused or attacked right in front of us, because we're too afraid to use our voices, in fear of backlash. So we stay silent and do nothing. Look at the state of the world now. We are on the brink of another civil war here, and we allow a lot of the media to dictate that to us, instead of getting involved with what's going on in our communities and neighbors or states we live in. Is it just me or does the guy in blue look like he could be Kid's cousin, of Kidnplay? Can you listen to "When I'm dead" by Kidney Thieves, if you haven't alteady... for a Halloween reaction, even. It's off one of the best movie soundtracks....at least in my opinion, "Queen of the Damned." I don't know if you react to movies, so that's why any video or song from that soundtrack is amazing and is why I was suggesting just the music if you don't do movie reactions on your channel. Btw, Sown with the Sickness is on that soundtrack. Pentatonix did a cover or Disturbed's cover. I heard it, and I still prefer this one.
