They're a great interviewers. Prompting without talking too much, steering the conversation without talking over top of them, pulling great info out of the actors without seeming intrusive. I appreciate that.

Wasn't it extraordinary? I knew that Patinkin had a reputation as a hothead who was difficult to work with, but I had no idea how much he had turned that around. Fascinating, too, that guys you might think of as extremely successful in their fields all have stories of how lousy they felt at times.

He was incredible in House of Cards, and more than deserves to be a part of this group. -I recently got the amazing ooppurtunity to meet Kevin Bacon, and he was so nice! It was cool to meet such a big star who I love, and he actually be really nice and kind. -Mandy Patinkin is the boss!!!!!!!!! :)

Another excellent The Hollywood Reporter long format roundtable discussion from 2013 w/ Kevin Bacon (The Following), Jeff Daniels (The Newsroom), Mandy Patinkin (Homeland), Dennis Quaid (Vegas), John Slattery (Mad Men), and Corey Stoll (House of Cards). At 16:55 or so when Mandy gushes over the opening monologue that Daniels did in Ep1 of The Newsroom... Hit the nail on the head. Shame the Newsroom is ending after the next season. #Interview #roundtable #THR #thehollywoodreporter

The other long format roundtables are excellent too - if you are interesting in the BTS of acting/showrunning/ and how these shows/movies and tv in general tick. The cinematography one with various DPs with a lot of street cred was great one.

Agree. The fact that The Newsroom apparently hasn't even been confirmed at this time to be picked up for season 3 is just beyond me. It is so sharply written, so well acted, so well edited, so topical for our times...it might possibly join The Wire as one of the best shows and one of the most unappreciated shows when they respectively aired. The Newsroom is so underrated, undervalued, and underestimated. Just amazing television. Jeff Daniels owns that character.
@mikemusal81889 жыл бұрын
Yes. Its the involvement you feel with the work that keeps you over water. You´re not playing it cool. You´re afraid like hell, but you won´t run, and that provides the adrenaline to show what you can do. Thats exhausting, too, so its a medal of honor for actors to lose all those teenage beauty and naiveness, maturing and getting more interesting to the audience all the time, no matter if you act, write or direct.

Alright, Jeff and Mandy have convinced me. It's time I see if the library has Newsroom. I've been meaning to get around to that. I got the first season of Homeland, halfway through it now - I have to say, Patinkin is one of the only reasons I'm sticking with it. Very well-acted show, only the writing is underwhelming and a bit stale.
@summermoon10 жыл бұрын
Homeland's first season is actually one of the better ones in the season. Patinkin's character is the heart and soul of the show IMO. The Newsroom is just alright. I do love the opening credits though.

Rachel Lam I think The Newsroom is fantastic. I've turned several of my friends onto it. They weren't inclined to watch. I got them to watch the first episode, and then they were hooked and watched every episode of both seasons. I do agree about the opening credits of show, especially Season 1.

The fact that you have more advantages than somebody else doesn't necessarily make you advantaged. I would say the fact that these men are all American (some may be Canadian, I have difficulty distinguishing between the accents) is a much bigger reason that they are advantaged than their race or gender. A white heterosexual man from Moldova is more disadvantaged than a black homosexual woman from the USA
