When I went to see Into the Spider-Verse, they were showing it to people who were coming to see Holmes and Watson and asking if they still wanted to see it.

Oh man did i dodge a bullet. i didint even know this existed. i saw something on Will Ferrel making a huge stinker but i dindint bother to pay attention. then yesterday, my stepdad and i were trying to make plans to see a movie. He wanted to see this. He told me who was in it and my heart sank. I tried to sell him on bumble bee and aquaman but they were long and the weather was getting bad. I was getting sick thinking id have to sit thru this but the weather got worse so we didint go. Phew! Thank God for bad weather! So we wound up staying home and watching the cocodile hunter movie and dealing with mice coming in from the cold and making sure the cat didint get to the traps before the mice did. Ugh As a fan of the author, im soo glad i didint go, i know id have thrown a fit watching this.

Here's a thought: What if, instead of the play-it-straight Sherlock Holmes as Brad suggested, they had a play-it-straight Watson? One where he's the only one who realizes that Will Ferrell Sherlock is insane? For that matter, at least have the movie self-aware enough that it acknowledges in some fashion that Will Ferrell playing Sherlock Holmes is a stupid idea? "That's not how I pictured him looking" or Watson screaming "This? You'd put the fate of England in the hands of... of... this man?" or something like that.

The joke recommendation for Holmes & Watson is actually pretty similar One of the positive reviews of the movie. The review almost verbatim states, “it is incompetently directed,Horribly edited, poorly acted, and within the first 10 minutes I thought the art of comedy was going to die. It certainly is one of the worst films of the year, however I didn’t die. Thumbs up”

I saw this with my parents, aunt, and one of my cousins last year. I thought it was ok. We were invited to see it as my cousin wanted to see it and we all didn’t have much planned during the holidays, and all of our other relatives were busy so we said sure. At least we saw it at the new theater that serves food and I was able to try more of their menu.

Sam Rockwell is awesome. He had the best lines in Galaxy Quest, his line delivery is worth watching the movie for. I also recommend "Moon" if you want to watch him slowly go insane 'alone' at a moon base.

Interestingly enough, that's kinda a thing in the original books. Mycroft is somehow an even greater dysfunctional genius, but we don't get much of his perspective. Sherlock (BBC) made him this super serious agent guy, when he should be canonically an even more insane character. But yeah, Sherlock Holmes always had an even smarter brother.

I feel like anything lighter than dramas or so-called "dark comedy" (ie, comedy movies that are ashamed of being comedies and want to be dramas) is so deadly afraid of taking itself too seriously, so they don't take themselves seriously AT ALL, and the result is these comedies who have so little respect for themselves that they come out as these limp squibs of... not even first draft ideas, more like napkin doodles of what an idea COULD be. I've heard from older performers I've been around, without any sort of precedent, that they inherently knew that they had to take a comedy script seriously. Somewhere along the line, we just kind of... forgot how to do comedy. Now it's just wannabe dramas or moderately funny people farting around.

There are only two "jokes" in that entire movie that are somewhat funny, and one of them I felt ashamed for smirking at. You guys got a different pre credits scene to the International release. In ours, adult Watson is planning to commit suicide by jumping off a roof (!). Holmes stood underneath tries to talk him out of it, and Watson keeps misinterpreting him to comedic effect (well that's the plan). Then Watson lands on and destroys Holmes' prize marrow. Cut to credits! It also means the un-cry scene later comes out of nowhere. I think your's was better (relatively speaking). Also, you do realise Hugh Laurie's a comedian?
