Colin Jeavons as a superb Lestrade; look at the text of the stories; in the 1980s there was really only one British actor who fitted the descriptions of he detective, and that was Jeavons.

Lestrade is just plain cocky. He is quick to think and very clever. Holmes is good at finding others weak spots, which gives him an opportunity to point out their flaws. Both are good in my opinion.
