I absolutely love "Last of the Summer Wine"!! I have all of the DVD`s of this show. My dream is to someday soon to go to Holmfirth and walk the streets where Cleggy, Compo and Foggy walked. I loved all of the characters in this show. So sad that it is over🥲Thank you Neil for taking us down memory lane once again. So appreciated!!

Out of all of the Christmas videos I have seen in the EU, England, Scotland & Japan, THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST. This is how Christmas should look with all of the mom & pop stores, sensible & not over the top lights & decorations & a real feel of the Holiday Season. Thank you so much for the video & for sharing. MERRY MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Another top video from somewhere I knew well. I worked at Brook Dyeing at Bottoms Mill a mile up the road on the way to Holme Moss for 30 years from 1969 to 1999 before transferring to another branch on Huddersfield. I used to shop at the Co-op and get the makings of my lunch in Holmfirth during the time Summer Wine was really popular, despite the hype many local shops weren’t fans of the many visitors who I was told didn’t actually spend much money when visiting. My own experiences were of driving back to work at lunchtime and being blocked on Hollowgate by tourist’s stood in the middle of the road on the bridge gauping at Nora Batty’s house. My middle son was a county gymnast and we did a fund raiser, he was amazed to have one person who pledged a pound named N Batty, sadly it was Norman, a workmate, not Nora. A place you didn’t mention was the old Bamforths naughty postcards building, they were also a motion picture first and could have been the Hollywood of Britain. I’ve not visited to walk round for twenty odd years but from your video so much has changed. I have a set of Bamforth photographs of the devastating flood of 1944 inherited from my father in law.
@ltipst2962

In all my years living here I'd never heard of that flood. You may want to share your photos with the examiner maybe, a quick google of "bamforth flood 1944" brings up many photos of holmfirth destroyed! Thanks for the little tidbit hope to see your pictures one day.

Viewing from Georgian Bay Ontario 🇨🇦 Spectacular Tour 🙌 Thank You 👏 My first impression, is Huge Respect to the founding architects and engineers ! It is very compelling to see how the architects and engineers have utilised local resources ~ I noticed a building constructed of slate or sandstone slates ! That was very impressive ! I really enjoyed the format of your videos 👏 Very Well Done 🌟 We live within a Boreal Forest on the shores of Lake Huron, Georgian Bay Ontario 🇨🇦 This Villages meticulously constructed buildings and infrastructure are very impressive 🤩 A world apart from where we live within our Boreal Forest ! HOLMFIRTH Apart from Last Of The Summer Wine, near the start of your walk is where cinema films were being made by the Bamforth Brothers only months after the first ever film was produced in 1895. The Bamforths are famous for their comic 'cheeky' postcards.

As an American fan of the LOTSW the most funniest situation comedy ever and it doesn't matter if you understand English humor or not but I have British ancestors and years of watching many British comedies as I'm 58 years old now and I visit Holmfirth and the other surrounding areas on Google Earth Maps Street View regularly and when I visit the area via Google Earth Maps I imagine that the various characters from the series are walking through the countryside and the streets and going in and out of the businesses and from the main trio from the original trio to the later ones and the supporting characters as well and who knows who I'll run across on my tour it could be Clegg, Compo, Blamire, Foggy, Seymour, Truly or the others such as Sid, Ivy, Nora, Wally, Howard, Pearl, Marina, and all the others from the main characters to the minor ones and all those in between in fact I just passed a police car now it was parked in a clearing and the PC'S were having lunch and that reminded me of the local cops and also saw a nearsighted man walking into a women's restroom at least I think he was nearsighted you never know who you'll run into and since most of them are in Heaven now maybe it really is them and I just read that Tom Owen has passed away and maybe I'll see Tom walking along with his dad and the others well Merry Christmas to all of the Last of the Summer Wine fans near and far, 😉.

Tom Owen? I didn’t know that, that’s very sad. Last Of The Summer Wine and Keeping Up Appearances actress Josephine Tewson died on 18 August 2022 at the age of 91, her agent confirmed in a statement. She died at Denville Hall, a care home in London for people in the entertainment industry. Tom was only 73. May they both Rest In Peace

Thanks for taking us all back to Holmfirth - been there in the summer for the Folk Festival, when there's music in all the pubs 🎼🎵🎶 I went into the Cafe and had a hot chocolate, went into the Fish & Chip shop opposite the Market Hall (near Nellies). It is a lovely town, small enough to walk around, with small independent shops. There is an Aldi just a short walk away, too ! The only problem with this town is that it's in the middle of nowhere but on a main route, so heavy traffic, including very large lorries, trundle through it all day long and it gets very clogged up in the centre. Such a shame. But a nice place to visit all the same. Keep em coming Mr Walk 🚶👍💯🇬🇧🇬🇧🎄☃️
@ltipst2962

The traffic is like that throughout really. It has been heavily built up tenfold since the show. Certainly not like it was early 90s. All we can hear in this video is traffic but I imagine this was around 3-5pm rush hour. Huge schools nearby. My parents never stop complaining about how bad traffic has got and they're in a village next door.

I think it was a cup of tea and a bun. Compo liked his buns. I am a real fan and have visited Holmfirth on three occasions from NZ. That was 1998, 2001, 2004. I don't remember seeing so much traffic. We visited the graveyard to see Compos grave and did the bus tour from Sids Cafe and met some of the cast on two occasions when they were waiting to start filming. I have Frank Thornton's signature and best wishes along with Ray Baraclough, Brian Murphy, Keith who dressed like Robin Hood, Jane Freeman, Juliet Caplan and Dora Bryne. Lovely to see Holmfirth again it hasn't changed except for the traffic.

Love.y walk around Holmfirth. I still enjoy all the old episodes of Last of. Not been to Holmfirth for a few years but remember how busy the road is. Such a shame it spoils the at atmosphere. You need to keep aware of all 😮the traffic! They should make it a 20 zone.

Its very very packed Holmfirth. What this video doesn't show is how rows and rows of houses continue to be built as well as huge high-schools and two massive supermarkets. This part of England is not what it was in the 90s and prior. I do think the middle of the village is a 20 due to multiple zebra crossings.

COMPO was my favourite and I just loved the Township and fields it was filmed located. Would of loved to see also where Clegg stayed neighbouring with Pearl & Howard....Also Wesleys Mechanic shed and his home just to name a few. First of all, great video. I normally don't like silent videos, where you have to read, mainly because the writing is always so small and they move so quickly. 2nd it's done really well, not hurried and I like the way you have everything written so boldly and clear. Excellent job, I loved the t.v show and still watch every night before going to bed. It never gets old. Lol, I feel like I've been to Holmfirth, I've seen so many videos of it. Thanks for sharing. Love summer wine. Soft gentle comedy. Am I the only one that stopped watching after Foggy left for the last time? The show had changed and became ridiculously painful to watch after he left. They would have been better off making a spin off show than carrying on. Now, the first few Series Clegg was not a nervous wreck scared of everything and NOT afraid of women and even took on Norah and ivy I believe. They also cursed and low key swore and smoked and were crude. . Then a few Series in when foggy arrived it changed but was still good. Now throughout the series Compo was ribbed throughout most of the many series for not fighting during the war being stationed at Aldershot mocked by Clegg, Seymour Foggy and Blamire. In the much later series where compo died, all of a sudden he did fight and was at the beaches at Dunkirk.. When they met Seymour they did not know who he was, then a few episodes in, they were friends at school, same Wesley Pegden and Eddie. Even Foggy they barely knew when Blamire told them Foggy was arriving as he was leaving. But soon he was a close friend to them at school. There are many things that the writers appeared to overlook over the 30 odd years. Lovely programme and so easy watching. It's surprising it stood the test of time using the same format and same gags. Norahs wrinkled stockings, compo being hit with a tray or broom, the three all falling off the same bike etc. Legends.

I’ve Gotta say I absolutely love your video I was glued to my phone you’re so professional and to see where last of the summer wine was filmed is absolutely fantastic so I’m a big fan I wish it never ended! The water being a burgundy red I think it’s rotten leaves! or it could be partly iron! Thank you so much for such a fantastic video. ps River could be burgundy red because of the oxidisation of iron

I've got the first ten series of lotsw unfortunately the pilot isn't included in the boxset, there were so many locations you would need a week or more to see them all, as a lot of locations included surrounding areas and some are miles from Holmfirth, including the location for the episode that's set in Wales but filmed in England, miles from Holmfirth, and then there's the 2nd homes of Clegg and Howard, I believe in early episodes Clegg lived somewhere near Sid's cafe in the row of houses at the top of the long staircase and then there's Barry and Glenda's house, so many places and not all in Holmfirth, but other towns and villages near and far,

Maybe you could find somewhere cheaper in Huddersfield town and get the bus to Holmfirth. 20 minute bus, £2. Huddersfield market on a morning maybe good too. If you do come, perhaps try during a Folk Festival of either Holmfirth or Marsden.

In my rainy Northwestern US the color of the burgundy color river water comes from decomposing tree leaves that fall into the river. May be the same for this river in England. Merry Christmas.

Mineral deposits I think for Holmfirth, the river goes through Honley as well. It doesn't stay brown, fortunately, and can happen midsummer. Good to know about the leaves!

14:28 & 15:27 is that a local custom; I've never seen a tree that's hung above the door. Here in the US the malls have huge, gaudy decorations. The mall's stores really don't decorate as shown here, so it's nice to see these shops and restaurants decorated for the holidays. Was the lane where Norman's and Howard/Pearl's homes are located far away from the center of town?
