Words can hardly convey the love we have for these characters and the parts they played. I would love to have met each one in person. We actually filmed each one for when the day might come when they were no longer available on BBC. We have a priceless library.

@@patmckeane6588 They were all great actors, and they seemed like family, I began watching them when camping(we had a trailer-or caravan as they are called on that shore of the puddle-) on a permanent site, where we spent nearly all weekends, and as the reception there was almost nonexistent we had a satellite setup and if for any reason we couldn't be there to see it the recorder was set up to catch it-we didn't watch TV that much there-just at night or in bad weather, but made it a point not to miss that show, then later it was on reruns all the time-, later for years after I retired I liver there from mid-April until mid-October. I still watch episodes often, they always leave me smiling and at peace with the world, I also love the side series that is placed in the pre-WW2 era, as I recall the last episode ends with Neville Chamberlain's speech announcing that hostilities had commenced. I hope the remaining cast live long and happy-we owe them many happy hours, and those gone on before, may they never be forgotten, perhaps they can restart filming on the other side of the veil.

It's a testament to how good this comedy was when it's English humour can travel across the pond. I live in Northern Ireland,just across the Irish sea, and their is alot of English humour, the Monty Python sketch show in particular, I just don't get but Last Of The Summer Wine was hilarious even though it is obviously based on the English and Yorkshire in particular way of life.

I was born in mid 1984 between the series 7 episode getting Sam home, and the series 8 episode the loxley lozenge. Peter sallis was born about 1 year after my grandparents. I first seen this show in the early 2000's. This is one of my favorite sitcoms. Rest in peace all the departed cast and crew of this excellent show.
@acidmack10415 жыл бұрын
It is a shame that Wally Batty is never shown or mentioned in anything like this...he was by far the funniest character on the show even though for the most part he was never in a full episode. I guess with the show going on for so long after Joe Gladwin's death in 1987 he is a forgotten character compared to others such as Howard, Marina, Pearl etc

I watched the first one with my father in 1973,the same year my local soccer team won the FA cup anyway it was the only comedy we ever watched together and until his death in 1984 we often watched it together, it is a great leveler cos there is no violence,politics,illness, sex or anything else you could argue about it's just funny stuff for the sake of funny stuff. I loved it at 11yrs old and 50yrs on and I still love it, bless the blooming lot of 'em 😁💕🖖

I remember "discovering" this show one night on my local PBS station (it aired at 10 or 11 p.m. right after Are You Being Served). I tried to interest my friends in the show but they just couldn't stand it's gentle humor. My favorite characters were Campo and Nora Batty. The story arc that took the series through the (real life?) passing of the actor who played Campo was excellent, moving, yet funny, easily the best ever. Nora Batty strongly resembled my maternal grandmother in looks and temperament, Grammie Barrett had 9 children and 30+ grandchildren, she didn't put up with any foolishness. I was amazed at how beautiful the actress who played Pearl really looked. The makeup and costumes on the show were outstanding.
