Hello, i would like to ask a question, in which circumtances, better to use total station? A mean we say lidar scanners are the best, more useful, time benefit. But is there any situation which the laser lidar scanners are less useful than the total stations? (pls except cost of the device or time, i am curious why we use total stations then?)

Does every 3D-scanner use point clouds? How do you know if it does or doesn't? And if I have a STL-file of my scanned object, can I transfer it to a file with point clouds?
@Holocreators4 жыл бұрын
Hi, every every professional 3d scanner should be able to export the 3d scan in a point cloud format. I have never tried the reverse way from stl to point cloud, but it should be possible. A stl file is basically nothing else then a lot of vertex points connected by lines which then form polygons
@deborageradts3694 жыл бұрын
@@Holocreators I used the WIllowWood Omega Scanner, do you know if that one has point clouds? And do you need to save it as a specific file or does a normal stl-file also capture the point clouds? Thank you!

Great video! Is there any software in wich I can link 2D images to a specific point in the point cloud and visualize them? For example, link the three axis of a tomography image (axial, coronal and saggital) that are relative to each specific point in a point cloud, so I can have a 3D representation but also a multi image 2D representation. Tanks for your help!
@Holocreators3 жыл бұрын
Hi José.Thank you. I can't think of an out of the box software that can do that, (that doesnt mean it does not exists :-) But it can surely be visualized within a 3d software like blender. It wouldn't be interactive though. More like a video presentation.

I’m actually working a project on generative design which does involve 3D scanning in my case. I’m using a Sense scanner by 3D systems, it’s my first time using this particular scanner and I find it rather difficult to work with. If anyone has worked with it, tips would be appreciated. I’m also interested in photogrammetry, I recently discovered it and Meshlab. I will probably test this out and compare it to my sense scan.

Do you mean the sense scanner that attaches to an Ipad? I did some figure scanning with that 2 years ago.

Sir, Point Clouds is not only by 3D Scanning, it also can be developed from the Photogrammetry process if i'm not wrong.
@Holocreators Жыл бұрын
Hi, I guess you could also create pointclouds by manually defining the points in 3d space. You are right a 3d scanner is not required.
@customraspi5 ай бұрын
besides xyz, you would need a pointsize parameter. Your renderer is not state of the art. It leaves holes instead of sizing the points appropriately.
