@@zellrang I’ve been going over the footage, and I think I’ve concluded: 1. Botan was just joking around. 2. Towa was genuinely confused. 3. Towa’s confusion is understandable, as what Pekora says _really_ doesn’t sound like “doumo doumo”. 4. Pekora says “doumo doumo” very strangely during her greeting to the point it doesn’t sound like that’s what she’s saying (and it’s completely different from how she says it outside of her greeting), but she _is_ actually saying “doumo doumo” in that she’s getting all the syllables out in the correct order. The main issue is that she sorta separates the “do” and “omo” in “doumo” and doesn’t really separate the “do” from the previous word, and she puts heavier emphasis on that middle “o”.

I think I figured out what happens. So, basically, the “dou” in “doumo” could be pronounced as one (often longer) syllable (dooh) or as two (doh-oh, like “uh-oh”). Pekora uses the two syllable variant, which ordinarily wouldn’t cause any confusion, except for two other things: 1) She puts a lot of emphasis on the middle “oh”, like “doh-OH-mo”. 2) She blends the starting “doh” with the end of the previous word more than with the following “oh”. The result is that this: “…-pekooooo! Doumo doumo!” sounds like this: “…-pekooooodo! Omodo omo!” Additionally, “do” is used where, in English, we’d just use “d” (like at the end of a word), and Ls before consonants are often omitted. Because of this, “omodo” sounds similar to how the Japanese pronounce the English word “almond”. This is why Pekora’s introductory “doumo doumo” sounds so very different from how most people would expect it to be said (and how she says it later outside of her greeting) and why Towa thought it was “almondo almondo”.

Seriously, this has been really bugging me, because Pekora was absolutely right: there is simply no reason why she would be saying “almondo almondo”, and yet when I listen to her say it, it really sounds just like it! It was only when I realized the second quote-unquote “almondo” was lacking the “ndo” at the end-leading me to go back to the “pekoooo” part and notice that she was ending with a “do”-that I finally figured out what was going on! She actually _has_ been saying “doumo doumo”, just in a _really_ odd way that makes it sound completely different!

To be fair, Pekora talks with barely any pauses at the end of sentences so it can be hard to understand her. That is also what causes the whole Almond thing, as the way pronounces "Pekora pekoooooooo! Domu Domou DOMU" as "Pekora pekoooooood omund omund OMUN" She literally does short breaks after the D of Domu, but not after pekoooooo and -omu
