A short walk round Holy Cross ruins and then down to the remains of the original coffin steps.

Julie, I'm from wallsend, (North terrace) I was browsing KZbin and came across your channel. I'm now in Scotland, i moved a good 8yr ago after losing my parents. Thankyou for these memories. Thank you Julie this brought back lots of memories of playing round there when i was a kid I remember well getting wrong off my Mam for trying to walk down the coffin steps instead of the new ones

Sorry, but I must contradict you, when I was a kid we used to climb all over that ruin, and there was no fence around it then, this was in the 1970s, I am 58 yes old now and still remember. It wasn't realised as an important landmark until the 1980s. It actually goes back further than they first thought, possibly Celtic? Most churches are built on the same grounds as the first settlement in those times, it is interesting, thanks for your post, I love the history of my home town.

Actually the fence was put round the monument in 1908, there's a lot of documented evidence of that, including some photos from that time. I'm not 100% sure but I believe it was listed in 1986.
