i am 65 years old. my daddy was a car salesman all his life. in the 50-60s he sold new Chevrolets, my Neighbour teenager bought a new 67 ss396 from him, it was yellow. your car was probably ordered by a salesman and not a customer, they just didn't check the posi track option, that's all. or it could have been the only rearend they had that day as they were putting the car together. also bench seat is rare but not unheard of. the early 69 Z28 had no Cowel induction hood.

Awesome find Patrick!! Brings back memories. My dad had one , same color in the late 70s.Only car that he ever scared me in. People would say, why are the lifters so loud in that car.lol.. In those days they bought recapped tires with minimal grooves in the tread from a shop in Falmouth Kentucky. They hooked up pretty good, I was flagging him and my uncle Dave in his 70 cutlass ( I was 12) the chevelle lost because it destroyed both back tires.. me and my brother picked up pieces and kept as souvenirs.. Thanks man, a memory forgotten until seeing this car

The L78 was dropped for most of the year for the same reason that the L79 Nova was dropped after they built just six or seven cars, they could embarrass the new kid on the block and Chevrolet didn't care for that at all ! oh, yeah the new kid , ever hear of a Camaro ? And yeah they did put a 396 in the Camaros , but not until after X-mas of '66 . Even then , a good driver in a L79 Chevy II would trounce a BB Camaro , the BB torque would light up the rear tires , and the Deuce would be long gone .

I think the story is the same with most people. Once most people started having families and passed these down to the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th owners they usually rusted away or were just used up. My Dad had a fairly rare ‘70 Charger 440 and said after the oil embargo you practically couldn’t give these away. He replaced his Charger with a Pinto of all things

Back in the '60s and '70s I probably went through over 100 cars or more the one I regret selling was a 62 Impala had the original 409 motor with a four-speed..So fast💨 the other one I got that Brand New my uncle owned a Pontiac dealership in Delaware was a 69 Trans Am white with blue racing stripes convertible.. I believe they only made "8" of them today I heard the 1969 Trans Am convertibles WS4-Motor are going for over $200,000 up to $1 million dollars.. I believe the base price was $3,500 I got all the options you could think of front wheel disc brakes so I basically walked out the dealership didn't even think about if they made 1" or 1 million of them $5,000 Dollars out the door..

That's a 425hp 396, rated at 375hp because of GM's mandate at the time calling for no less than 10 pounds per horsepower. No difference between it and its 425hp-rated twin GM installed in 1965-only Impalas and Corvettes. The big limitation was, of course, the skinny little F70/14 OEM tires. Weenie roast in low gear.

That Car would be a better find , if it would have those Items in it . I had a 1967 Chevelle SS 396. I ordered with the 350 HP, Engine .I ordered it with Disc Brakes, Bucket Seats, All Gauges, with Tachometer.It had a Close Ratio -4- Speed Muncie Transmission. My older brother bought one brand new just like it except in emerald green with black vinyl top black interior with a bench seat, he ordered buckets but it was delivered with a bench seat and he was furious! He did get a discount for the mistake however. I remember his also had a brake lock mounted under the dash on the left side near the parking brake lever. He got drafted and fought in the jungles of Vietnam and left the SS to me to take care of while he was gone.. I was only 15 at the time. My brother mounted grey spoke American mags and flame thrower bright lights as soon as he took delivery of the car and the hub caps went in the trunk. Sadly, my father had to sell the car because he was stuck making the payments on it while my brother was gone… another returning Vietnam vet came with his father and bought the car. It broke my heart to see it leave my care. 😢. Just a quick note: I almost got killed parking my Harley chopper at the bottom of a hill like you did. I was stopped at the stop sign putting on my gloves when a guy in a road runner came flying over the top Of the hill at high speed. He had to crash his beautiful road runner Into the woods to avoid running over me! All I seen was his oil Pan when I turned around to see what was charging over the top of the hill straight at me. You would be better off filming on a flat open road next time!

@garywilson7992
@garywilson7992 Жыл бұрын
No offense, but how did you run 12:77 in the qtr & it wasn’t even a L-78 ? I mean that would be a pretty good time even for a L-78. In the mid to late 60s, any car that broke into the 12s would outrun 90 percent of what was on the street. Low to mid 14s was typical, which doesn’t sound like a lot of difference, until you consider that for every 10th of a second, is around one car length for a car running at least 100 mph at the end of qtr, so in other words, only one second difference can be up to 8 to 10 cars in the qtr. But of course there’s a lot of variables involved, so that’s just a rough average, but you get the idea, and you can have a lot horse power, but if you can’t get the rear tires to hook up, you might have to play catch up against a much slower car, that had a good pair of slicks, and you had street tires.

Another great video.....what are the odds you might make another vid later, with shots of the inside of the truck, or maybe get it up in the air, would love to see that rear axle and the rest of the underside of the car........Thanks for the great time capsule PGN!!!

Beautiful car Patrick! I had one exactly like yours except mine was a 2 speed auto. Same color, same style. Loved it, wish I had never sold it.

She's a real beauty. And I think that I am even more amazed that it is a bench seat car, with a 4spd. Then I am, that is an open diff. car. But I sure would love to own it. Thanks for the video
