Not a pretty style, but more efficient. Previous to that, he was just an overwhelming puncher, who relied on bullying opponents in the ring.

From Byrd to bowe. From Lewis to tyson. He was an undersized heavyweight that over achieved. captured the world title on 5 separate occasions. Could've been 7 times but was robbed in Germany. Evander Holyfield wasn't necessarily at the top of the list of my favorite fighters back when he was in his prime. Maybe for the sole fact that he didn't quite have the power of someone like Tyson. But the fact is he crushed some great fighters repeatedly,. This is especially impressive considering that he wasn't a natural heavyweight. Phenomenal heart and boxing ability, both God-given and trained for. And all of these accomplishments coming from a thoroughly decent and good person. Incredible.

I think there's an argument to be made that Foreman is the GOAT. Not saying he is or isn't, but he's part of that conversation, considering what he did over decades. People thought he might kill Ali before they fought, but Ali pulled off perhaps the greatest fight in heavyweight history. George was never knocked out again, before or after. People just tend to remember that Ali fight. Foreman crushed Frazier twice and had a ton of other great wins. It kind of makes sense that he still had the power - that's probably the last thing to go. It's just amazing that he could stand in the ring and take pummelings without ever going down. Legend.

The first and only school yard fight I got into it was against a kid whos dad was a boxer and had of course taught his children how to fight. So needless to say I got my ass beat that day after school. The next day after school I see this kid coming and he has his dad with him, I thought I was in trouble, I was scared. Kids Dad comes up to me shakes my hand asks me if a fought his son yesterday which was obvious due to the lumps on my face, but he eventually asked me if I wanted to train with them after school, I said yeah and trained with them all the way through high school and a few years after, it was fun and character building. The interesting thing is that I havent been in a fight since then, I have never used the things i learned.

Training years are the happiest too since all anger and frustration are washed away at the gym, you go home tired and in peace just wanting rest. Trading punches over time helps in dealing with emotions as you manage to control yourself a bit more, I had an issue with my left dropping so an assistant was placed to my left during mitt training to sock me everytime my hand went south; for a while I would flinch and try to guard up any time someone stood close to me.

I know this was 8 years ago now, but it was great to hear him sounding so coherent at the time. At the height of his career he did sound a little punchy, but years out of the sport have clearly done him good. Could easily have been a casualty of the sport given how stacked his resume was and how many blows he took from top level opponents.

He was smart to say he wasn't going to be knocked out in the last round. That actually happened when Marciano was fighting Jersey joe Walcott in the 1950s Walcott was ahead on points in either the last round or the one before that but I believe it was the last. They told Marciano either knock him out or you lose the title. Rocky knocked him out, joe later said it was like getting hit with a sledge hammer !

Evander (Real Deal) Holyfield a true "Warrior and Gentleman" indeed after literally getting robbed from becoming an "Gold Medalist" on the biggest stage in the world, the "Olympics"! Yet he still showed grace which most likely made him that much more (Determined), to be the best boxer he could possibly be? Well he did just that becoming the "WBA Cruiserweight Champion of the World" in only 11 professional fight's prior, and went on to become the "Undisputed Light Heavyweight Champion of the World"! Oh but he was just getting started going after what is considered the most "Prestigious" title of all? Yep the "Undisputed Heavyweight Champion of the World" maybe a thank you for those (Morons) from the Olympics are in order? lol. But for his "Achievements" in the ring, never lost sight of "GODS, Love" in him! So the rest is "History"....Thanks "Evander Holyfield" for all the memories !!!

I love the fact that Holyfield is honest. There’s another video of him talking about Tyson where he said when Tyson had the gloves under his chin, he was unbeatable. It was only when he changed his style that he became beatable. He says I was fortunate enough to fight him when he was beatable.
