If your god fearing helped you go to college, they did more for you than my atheist ones - atheist parents are narcissistic as fuck; they are also very boring since they avoid gatherings because their weak minds can't handle religious banter. Did they demand you go to a religious college? Still better than no college...

I was in a group of teens selected for this retreat with limited space. They told us we were chosen for a reason. We were God's favorites. The only individual I still talk to from the group isn't plugged in to church other than maybe some relationships developed there and possibly the food bank. I was told that the youth pastor heard the audible voice of God confirming an idea I had regarding a loaner library of Christian music. I'm glad I never reached out to anyone when I started questioning. There was a moment where I would have been susceptible to cult programming of the LDS or anyone else claiming to have the original, unaltered biblical texts.

It happened to me once. There was this woman pastor on visit from the USA and she prophesized over me and I remember falling for it hook line and sinker, but then again I was also 17 years old so got to cut me some slack. Luckily I managed to break free from these handcuffs on the mind that we call faith and am happily a non-believer today.

I attended a Vineyard church years ago. I was part of the leadership team. We were taught that prophetic gifts were for everyone. I was particularly good in this 'gift'. I could read people that came up for prayer. One of the things we were taught as prayer ministers was to keep our eyes open. As we prayed for the person, we keyed in on certain words and phrases that seemed to have an effect on the person. Those were the emotional reactions we keyed in on. Of course, the person would react. This is no different than a psychic using 'cold calling'. I eventually left the Christian faith. Then I realized what was taking place. I do have a good sense of intuition, and combine that with Gawd and the Holy Spirit, and you are a 'Prophet!' I am now an atheist and can do the same thing - if I wanted to.
@marypatton1122

Me too! I can read people intuitively too, especially when I pay attention. If I was dishonest, I could set up a palm reading business and make a bunch of money. I could start my own religion. My religion would be better than Mary Baker Eddy's and I could buy a million dollar house and drive a $200,000 car. I've thought if it but unfortunately, I have integrity. I did it when I was young but I really believed it back then. The paster's voice sounds like my old boyfriend from high school and Bible College. He is now a pastor and still at it. Creepy...at this age he knows he is dishonest.

@@marypatton1122 I used to read tarot cards and do natal astrology charts (those ones where you need to do a bunch of math to calculate how to draw). I could still do them if I wanted. Never once charged people for them (cause I was a teen at the time), but then I noticed how much people charged for that crap online. I could've setup a small home business; heck at this point I have enough tech knowledge that I could automate it without ever having to respond to anyone personall and could make bank on it. The issue is my morals. I dont believe in that stuff, and I think it perpetuates taking money from people who don't know better.

@@emeraldkat2167 For a short while I read Tarot and was in demand at college, and came to believe it was, or could be, more than a "meditation tool". But I read everything, and we already had studies showing people believed almost anything especially if seasoned with Barnum statements and leading questions; as I was never certain I asked a lot and total strangers answered, and this was back when privacy was really valued. Like you said, a conscience makes a big difference. Long after I quit people would insist I read for them; I never accepted a dime, and was lectured for wasting a gift. They did not want to hear it's just illusion.

@@kathryngeeslin9509 Yeah. I had people do the same to me. The weird thing is, I'm not good at the whole reading people thing (at least cold readings), but just read what the cards meant. I memorized every card and what the instructions said they stood for. What I came to realize about both astrology and tarot, is that they are written to be so generalized that almost anyone could relate to them. Even the more specific cards (major arcana), really aren't that specific if you can take them in both a literal or figurative context. Oh the literal one doesnt make any sense (so you got the chariot, and it says you are moving or traveling), well that just means you are figuratively moving or distant. Lol What I find hilarious is that the paid tarot readers don't even know what the cards mean half the time, and just cold read people. They might get better results if they just read the instruction manual instead.

I had a similar experience when I was 18, although the prophecy went the opposite way of yours... My dad wanted me to go to a revival type midweek meeting at the church. There was an out of town prophet who was a special guest, and he had a bunch of teen "disciples" who traveled with him. They called all the young high school/college age kids to get prayed over. When it was my turn, the prophet put his hand on my forehead and all the disciples put their finger tips into my back. When he was done praying over me, he tried to push me backwards like I was receiving the holy spirit. I was a strong kid at 18, and wasn't playing a fake game of being pushed over backwards. I wanted something real. The prophet then whispered in my ear, just fall over backwards, they'll catch you. I refused. He then prophesized over me that I would never believe in Jesus Christ as my Lord and savior, which in this church was pretty much damning me to hell. It's ironic that he was right, I'm never going back to that manipulate, abusive culture. I've been free of religious beliefs for a quarter century now and couldn't be happier about it.

This reminds me, I remember always hearing people in my church get "words" (of encouragement/prophecy) and feeling like it hit home with me too. Sometimes moving me to tears. The speaker would occasionally address this phenomenon and say, "I may not be speaking to you directly, but while someone else is getting a word, you may feel like God is speaking to your heart as well. That's the way he works, it's the holy spirit." And at the time I just thought how amazing and profound that was, that someone could get something so specific spoken over them, and at the same time others could be personally touched by the same message. Now I realize that's actually a warning flag about how broad these so called prophecy's really are.

This incident was one of the things that made me go full-blown atheist. I have already begun trending this way starting at the age of 14. I like history as matter fact I love history it was my favorite subject when I was in school. The more history I read the more I begin to see religion doesn't make sense. Plus when I join the military I was sent overseas to Japan and South Korea and I begin to learn that people believe different things then I did and they were just as passionate about their beliefs. When I was in the military I met one of my best friends I had in my life he lives in the Bay area of California. One time I went home on leave to his house and I got to meet his sister and she was the nicest and most sweetest person I ever knew. And I'm not going to lie but I had the biggest crush on her. But she was killed in the Ghost Ship fire in Oakland California in 2016. Needless to say I was devastated. I went to a pastor to see if I can get some answers. And do you know what he told me, he told me that her death was all about the invisible sky wizard's master plan. Needless to say I flipped out. I knew then and there that all these men and women were nothing more than snake oil salesmaen. I had already started my journey off the religious Plantation. And I am so glad because I've never looked back.

I mean do they believe that their ALL loving God really just loves the Jews that much that the entirety of east Asia, India, south/west Africa, Europe and the Americas was completely ignored by him throughout all of human history in order to favor 12 tribes who lived in the Levant and Anatolia?

Watch Prophet Isaac, exactly, He isn’t a man. Doesn’t change the fact that what you believe him to be cannot be verified. There is no proof that he is an all loving all excepting God as you say. And even if there is evidence in life it doesn’t mean there’s evidence for it in death. God IS allowed to lie to you but because He’s been labeled like you claim you can’t even fathom the idea that your God isn’t perfect. Of course it’s not like He needs to be. I’ve always argued against the idea of him being perfect considering the complete 180 from the pagan tribal war God of the Old Testament to the all loving God of the New Testament. And cannot explain the existence of the universe? Heres the explanation: The universe existed. Because for the universe to exist in its current state that means that time needed to exist and the existence of time means theres a beginning, but what caused the beginning you say? God is merely an answer but that doesn’t mean its THE answer. Gods existence is a paradox in and of itself so the idea of nothing being needed to create the universe shouldn’t be a hard idea to comprehend. After all either something existed before time or nothing at all. If something existed then that means that a being such as God could have existed. But if there was truly nothing before existence then that means nothing could stop something from existing ergo a being (God) or just the universe. In fact if there were no rules before the universe existed then that means a being coming into existence due to one reason or another would be able to do anything. Ultimately we cannot deny a God’s existence but we can always deny your God’s existence since He’s supposed to return. And if you DARE use the argument that says we just want to sin so we deny God’s existence then BULL FUCKING SHIT! If we secretly accepted God existing then that means we would sin more because we would be damned to hell anyway so might as well right? That means that almost no one could be saved because we would become hedonists or we would try to better ourselves even though in our hearts we would still have a desire to sin and only decided against it because of the imminent threat of hell. In other words God wouldn’t accept us into heaven anyway since fear of Him was the only thing stopping us from acting on our thoughts. So only someone who truly, TRULY, STOCKHOLM SYNDROMELY, had a change of heart, would be accepted into heaven and not have to endure being thrown into a lake of fire for all eternity since they were created a certain way. Either your God is a hypocritical asshole or He doesn’t exist, pick one. Either of those I’ll be infinitely more willing to except than Him being some perfect being.

Back when KZbin still had private messages (before they were buried into your channel settings page somewhere, before they were removed, then came back, then disappeared again. it's been a while), I received something better than a prophecy. I received a death threat. A christian who had been given the power (he said) by God (he said) to utterly destroy me with a single thought. I was, of course, intrigued by this amazing ability of his and invited him to go right ahead. In the intervening time since then, I've survived two cancers and three surgeries, including two in my brain, the second of which was to remove a part of my brain that got overly irradiated during gamma knife surgery they did after the first brain surgery that was killing even more of my brain, all of which did little more than make me half blind and made it a bit difficult for me to concentrate, to the point where I just barely can't play D&D anymore. Let's just say I'm not super impressed by this "utter destruction" super-power. But then, God has a history of having really shitty aim... just ask the gay quarter in New Orleans. It's not as bad as his ability to predict the future, at least... but part of me suspects that the guy who PMed me _might not have super powers at all!_

I would pull it out, read it and cry because I felt connected to God that way...now it reads like a piss poor horoscope. Saying thinks like I’ll go on to have righteous children (I’m 45 and have ZERO kids), I’ll be a leader (my dogs don’t even listen to me), and that I will return to God in heaven (unless I have a stroke or TBI, I’m a strong atheist and in fact, fight actively against the Church...so nope). Also, the pastor’s band kept hitting similar chords to ones used for the intro and bumper music for the Flight of the Conchords...not important, but something I found interesting and made me laugh.

The Battle in Your Mind is universal, it happens to all of us every day, so it's the diametric opposite of special, the special thing is the opposite, inner harmony, inner peace, which is one of the chief benefits that religion promises, hence why religions focus on humanity's universal inner turmoil.

As someone who used to be a pastor who would prophecy over people I really appreciate this. Yes there are people who know they are using tactics, however I know for myself and those I was on a leadership team with we genuinely believed it. We didn’t want to just go for the “typical” or the vague. We genuinely wanted god to speak to this person. We would go out of our way to tell them not to just make what we say fit into what they think it should mean, rather, if god is real to allow him to reveal it to them. I have witnessed people in churches cold read, say vague statements and use nothing but charisma and music to make people feel good and it always made me uncomfortable and even disgusted. At some stage I started to question though. While getting extremely specific “miraculous” prophecies right I was still not convinced. I thought it was more probable that we don’t give the human brain enough credit than it actually being from god. I am still open to the idea that a god could exist and that he could potentially speak through humans, however I currently think I was just in an atmosphere that created a subjective reality and my cognitive bias would see and hear what I expected to.

I should probably have specified that I really don't think this "prophet" was intentionally trying to deceive or was purposely using cold reading tricks. I think he was using cold reading without even realizing it, but I think he believed it 100%.

I grew up in a Christian household. I think I knew at a young age that something was off, but I was constantly looking for God in anything. Even when I felt myself slipping away from faith, I constantly went up to the alter (stage) to be prayed over and seek advice. I was desperate to find a reason to believe. It sent me through waves of depression. I never felt I was good enough and my lack of faith was my fault. I remember also being angry and jealous because some of my family had "witnessed" seeing angels and saw "miracles", meanwhile I was struggling so hard just to get a sign that God existed. Fortunately, I finally woke up. It wasn't easy, but I finally excepted the fact that God was a false entity. I'm much happier now as an atheist, and I'm also learning to be more myself. It's frustrating to remember how desperate I was, though. But when everyone around you keeps telling you to trust these fantasy stories, I guess there was a lot of pressure there.

This reminds me of when I was in a city in Spain with friends and a group of gypsies came up to us. One had had this experience before, held her hands together and would not engage but the rest of us were listening. One of the women "read" my hand and told me what a wonderful, amazing, fabulous person I was. The flattery was so over the top it was ridiculous. I knew it was a scam but part of me was agreeing and enjoying it. My logical self came to the surface though, and we shooed them away. But flattery, done right, is very powerful. By the way, I am wonderful, amazing and fabulous, but I'm not stupid. 😂😂😂

same thing happended to me, I was an active mormon, we have some ritual in which , mormons go to recieved a patriarcal blessing, which more or less , describes your future, it was a great thing back in those days, now I see it as a mere cold reading , the patriarch place his hands on your head, start a prayer and them , tell you what god have for you the rest of your life, the only issue is that he gave you general statements of prosperity and good fortune if you obey gods laws , but he rearely mentioned any specific even , with date, time and person o people e involve within that moment or moments in your life the patriarch is describing, also when you get baptized or confirmed member of the church , you get many profecies of your future in the religion, just more emotional confort basicly.

Back when I was 17, I was in a very similar position to the one you described. I didn't really begin to "lose my faith" until around 18/19. Had I heard then what you heard, I would have had prettymuch the same reaction. On a side note, there were two ads that came up during the course of this video that made me chuckle. The first was for the Harry Potter game and the wording was comically similar to the predictions I'd just heard (exciting times, new friends, etc). The other came just after the blood montage and was advertising one of those zombie apocalypse games. Do you get to select which adverts appear on your video, or was this just an hysterically appropriate accident?

My dad is a southern Baptist preacher. When I was 13, we had a christain jew come to speak to our congregation. After the servise, this guy said he was a prophesy for me. He laid his hands on me and said that in the future I would go through I huge trail in my life, and If I called on the name of jesus when it halpened, I'd be ok. I was completely indoctrinated at the time, so It all seemed so real to me. Then when something bad happened in my life, I thought that the prophecy came true. I am a believer - today, as I became 38 years ago. I’ve had so called prophecies spoken over me many times and haven’t been able to call bs. There was really no room for that. People wanted to believe. In one specific case I’d had my calling shortly before and it had been confirmed. Since, I’ve been in full time ministry (this was early 99, I went into mission by May). Still, a pastor who could not on his life fathom that God - and men - called me, the least religious but still fervent believer, made him bring me to a prophetic conference. I was, of course, called out from the crowd and brought on stage. The preacher who thought prophesying called onto anyone who had a word from God to me. He stopped them at five. All five had a go, and they all missed in different ways. I, being nice, said that I couldn’t see it - yet - instead of calling bs. Then, the teacher preacher declared that all had seen facets of my future but he would give the full picture. Still missed, though. The thing is, one has to be very strong to call bs against authority there and then. I was at the point of leaping into full time ministry and was not that strong. The pastor who brought me did not wanna let me go so he used the conference as confirmation that I was not to enter mission. He even refused to participate in my ordaining. Well, I’ve continued in ministry full time until I retired and now I’m still going strong in retirement. I don’t agree with mr. Koolaid on a great number of things but he’s at least right about this: False prophets must be called out. Seems like no one reads Deuteronomy 18:20-22 anymore.

And not one of these prophets-- not even crazy people "saw" anything about Covid-19. None of them ever see anything that would actually help their people. God, or Jesus, had he actually sent messages to any of them would have mentioned something, and now they would be gloating about how this "proves" God. And it is precedent that God warns his people because that is what the Ark, Sodom and Gomorrah and Passover stories are all about.
