I've watched a pretty good amount of kayak builds I think this guy is the best. the way he puts extra strength where it needs it. pretty cool. thanks.

Structurally speaking, the fiberglass cloth stripes applied at the joints from the inside, are not as important as placing them in the outside of the kayak. Said this, it would have been way better to apply them in the outside as well. Thank you for the video. Great workmanship.

@bergerboote5 жыл бұрын

Yep, it would be wonderful to know what was going on in this video....especially since I'm interested in a kit...
@paulbergman82283 жыл бұрын
Cheasapeake Light Craft has a video which follows the same process; they also have a variety of great kits, some simpler that others to build. Nick Schade has a You Tube series (under his name) building several custom kayaks which has great techniques to follow which I feel are the very best in quality for custom strip builds, and some of those very fine skills give added quality to kit builds. His website is GuillemotKayaks.com. This craftsman’s skills are also of a very high order following these details gives very good results. Working with epoxy takes patience and practice to give good results. One of the golden rules for epoxy, fiberglass and wood is...never epoxy anything when the temperature is rising as outgasing of the wood will leave air bubbles in fiberglass weave or in the clear coat over bare wood. After sanding always wash the epoxy with warm soapy water, rinse and dry with alcohol and paper towels. Frost time users should do some trial laminations on scrap wood or plywood to see how things work and how much epoxy is needed to just wet the weave, and not overdo it on the first coat and ‘float’ the fiberglass, squeegee off the excess for a very light coats; the same with second or third coats before sanding. Practice sanding on those practice scraps of wood or plywood to see how it works, then go to the kayak. Just a few lessons to help along with the examples on various build channels here. 🛶😎

Hello Sir: thanks for this video an I will watch more of them. Had you thought of making the super awesome Kayaks in a kit form to be able to send to people that would build these? Like me in the USA? I would love a 10’ or 12’ to build and the wood you use is very beautiful looking. Could you use Kevlar fiber for the bottom? Have you try Peel Ply over the fiberglass o keep the sanding down? I hope you like my ideal because you be so bussing.lol God Bless and Peace be with You. Greg from USA. PS. Could you please make your website in English for some of us. Thanks

Chesapeake along with many other companies in America make kits ready to go. They're pricey though, I'd just buy the plans and cut my own plywood I already have.

don't seem to be massively watertight where the deck joins the hull, on the inside. that's where the rot will set in...………
@axcs01195 жыл бұрын
From the looks the deck is resin coated on the under side and the top fiber glass does wrap onto the hull. So there should not be any water intrusion. He also does fill any defects with epoxy prior to glassing the deck to hull joint.
