The actor who played Marv suffers from arachnophobia, and they told him on set that they would be using a plastic spider, so when they used an actual spider and placed it on him; that was the actor's actual scream/reaction to having a spider placed on him. Afterwards he told the Director that he better have gotten the shot correct; because he refused to redo the scene for another take.

I love that John Candy and Macaulay were reunited in this after Uncle Buck. Even though they weren't in a scene together, close enough. Also the funeral story by Candy was completely improvised, which makes it even more hilarious. And Marv's spider death scream is legit. He had arachnophobia. The greatest crime in this movie certainly...is that Kevin didn't even get to eat his Macaroni and Cheese.. He is most known for this but also did some other things "The Good Son" "My Girl" I highly recommend. "What, now?" "No tomorrow ya egghead yeah now!" 😂

Director Chris Columbus is a protegé of Steven Spielberg, and you can see that in his films, they all have this wholesome, magical feeling, including music by John Williams. HOME ALONE was written and produced by another creator of good comedies, John Hughes. Columbus directed the first two HARRY POTTER movies and he produced the third.

One of the things that this movie did that helped to make it so popular in its day was that it tapped into the psychology of the many many latchkey kids and their fears. To watch on screen a young kid successfully ward off a couple of bad guys was phenomenally exciting and satisfying to the youth of the day. It was a movie that the kids insisted on seeing again and again at the movie theatres.

Hi Emma: Wonderful reaction! One of my top scenes is when Kevin goes into the cathedral and the children's choir sing "O Holy Night". I love to hear the children sing. I hope you will watch Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. It is a direct continuation of Marv & Harry. It also has a scene of being in a grand opera house and they are playing "O Come All Ye Faithful" in full orchestra. It is quite beautiful to hear and see all the violinists playing in unison. Another movie with Joe Pesci is "With Honors" (1994) - Brendan Fraiser. This is a most unique role for Pesci, that shows his acting versatility - it is beautiful, heartwarming, brilliant and humorous. It is such a deep and smartly crafted movie. Thanks for the upload, I wish you a good day as well. Take care.

When we think of Maestro John Williams and his music, we often of course think of Jaws, E.T. and Star Wars. But he has done so much more amazing work, including this one (another Oscar nominated score). Such genius writing once again.

Another similar and great watch is Uncle Buck. The little actor that played Kevin is in that movie. In fact, there is a scene where he is left home alone with his little sister for a bit, and it gave the writer the idea to write this movie (Home Alone). This movie literally was born out of Uncle Buck.

Emma, I recommend you watch Home Alone 2: Lost In New York (1992) and Home Alone 3 (1997). Home Alone 3 has a different cast and totally different characters. However, it is still as funny as the first two, one worth watching. If you want to see another great Macauley Culkin film. I recommend "Richie Rich" a great 1994 family suspense drama about a very rich yet very nice family. Culkin stars with the late Edward Hermann, Jonathan Hyde, Christine Ebersole, and John Laroquette. A very well done film. Directed by Donald Petrie. Finally, id you want to see another funny film by John Hughes, I recommend "Babys Day Out". A great 1994 dramedy about a kidnapped baby and three very bumbling and hilarious crooks. Stars Lara Flynn Boyle, Joe Mantagena, Joe Pantoliano, Brian Haley, and Fred Thompson. Great review of a John Hughes classic.

19:59 - That moment where Kevin comes face to face with the van and screams was actually filmed backwards and then played in reverse for the movie. So to film it. The van started at the bottom of the driveway with Kevin standing just in front of it and screaming. Then they backed the van slowly back up the driveway. Then when the movie was being edited. They put that part in reverse to make it look like the van nearly hit Kevin as he passed the driveway.
