read Little House on the Prairie to get a feel for how tenuous life used to be...if you were sick and couldn't farm, hunt, chop wood, fetch water, etc., your life was in jeopardy unless you had family or friends who could compensate for you. everything was so uncertain...

We now share a house with our grown daughter and her partner. They are upstairs and we are downstairs (except the kitchen is upstairs) - not a large house, but I never wanted a big one anyways. It is great. We all support each other. They are working, we are retired. Now that we are getting older, they are helping with some of more physical stuff. My husband keeps everything around the house/yard working, I do a lot of cooking and grow a large garden. We have a dog and there is someone to watch him if anyone wants to go away for a trip. I love it. When I was very young, my best friend/brother/mom shared their home with mom's parents - nana cooked while mom worked (she had lost her dad to cancer) and I thought it was wonderful, always homemade pasta drying in the kitchen and someone there. Anyways, the obsession with huge homes where everyone is separate all the time, even within the house, is not healthy, IMHO. We need to all start taking care of each other again, building family and community. And I eat mostly plant-based and the kids are eating like that more than they would on their own because that's what I'm cooking. She is also learning a lot more about cooking and nutrition than she would have on her own (although they do still make their own meals as well, which often include meat.) Anyways, we learn to deal with each other's differences, but overall, it is a wonderful experience. Especially love always being able to enjoy the holidays together, decorating and cooking and just hanging out. Sorry so long.

As a european citizen (I live in Italy), sadly I have to admit that we are going in this direction. Even if the problem is not radicated as it is in northern america and similar countries, I feel like the grip of capitalism has affected also our lives. Nowdays employers expect you to sacrifice every bit of yourself without giving any recongnition back for your hard work. People struggle in mantaining friendships because everyone is busy working and even meeting new people seem impossible because nobody has the time or will to cultivate new social relationships.

Ok, so many things. First, that wall paper is so amazingly beautiful. I love the topic you covered!!! It is fascinating. I am a nurse and work in a high stress area. Earlier this year I had the opportunity to work from home, online, as a nurse. Pretty unique. I've always been so fascinated by the idea of working from home. So I jumped at this opportunity. I was immediately miserable and missed my coworkers and high stress job so much, I went crawling back to them and begged my boss for my job back. I am mostly an introvert but I was so sad without my old friends/coworkers

Lol...but I don't think it's a problem humans need to rest and are being forced to relax but it feels like loneliness but through resting we will be able to reconnect but if you are burnt u are mean to people so resting helps u reconnect!

The pandemic caused a disconnection between people that has never returned. Also, the technology and the negativity of society in general also impacts this. Society as a whole is under stress because of decisions made by our countries leaders has made it economically impossible to survive at a respectable level without working multiple jobs for many.

Thank you for covering this. Another thing that humans have fallen more deeply into over time is how we "adult." It's better to just play the game for work (not become it) and nurture our connection to our childlike and curious nature that makes everyday experiences in life more meaningful. As for the job, it doesn't define a person. It's how the person works.

I agree on most of what you said, but I disagree about large sprawling land being a bad thing. I bought a single family home on a plot of my own land in 2020 and will never go back to renting or sharing walls/ceiling/floor with neighbors. I enjoy having the buffer of land between me and my closest neighbor, not to mention the ability to plant a garden and trees and such. I’m in a small city in the north Mountain West of the US with less than 100K people, and will never want to go back to living in a big city (like where I was born and raised). We don’t even have a bus system; not enough people for it to be worth it. But lots of people ride bikes when the weather is nice. I don’t think everyone should have to live in multi-household buildings in a city with little or no cars. My community has plenty of opportunities and events to socialize with each other if we so choose (but I don’t choose to lol; maybe someday when my self-esteem and confidence has gone up, but that’s a different conversation). And the cost of living here is a lot less than a big city, too. So that’s why we were able to buy a house in the first place.

Interesting about that "unplanned" third space interaction. True, that doesn't happen much, unless you're a mom with kids going to the park, or kids getting together for a basketball game in the park...stuff like that. But personally, after working 40 hours a week, all I want to do is be home and relax, not go out and hang out in a park or "plaza" (if there was such a thing in my town), much less going out for dinner or drinks, which is why I can be so reclusive.

I have to address this. You made so many valid points. First of all, I'm old and I've been a vegan for a very long time. One of my daughters, and son and law are vegan. Their toddler has been vegan since conception. Unfortunately my other daughter and her wife aren't vegan. When I came across your KZbin I thought you were perfect for them. You shared quick, easy and affordable food that also happens to be delicious. And I was right. While they're still eating animals, they're also eating a lot more plant based meals. I would love to see them go on one of your travels! Anyhow...while my children are in their 30's, my godchildren are in their 20's and I see the loneliness in the choices they've been making. It really is a concerning trend which I hope we can turn around. I've always been against the single family home. I've always believed it takes a village and a multigenerational home is healthier for everyone. I wish that was more prevalent in the U.S. and Canada. It's not the end all but it can help with our mindset of having to do it all alone. Because we don't have to do it all alone. I also agree that the third space is incredibly important. I don't care if we need to be super obvious about it and create spaces that say Third Space that people will go to. Whatever it takes at this point needs to happen. While not the driving factor, the pandemic certainly added to the trauma. Being locked down was difficult for all of us. If we could just come together and admit that and talk about moving on from here I think we'd be better off. We had to be careful of our neighbors! Of family and friends! We have a lot of work to do. Thank you so much for what you're doing to be a part of the solution. As I watch my daughter eat more and more plant based dishes, I can't help but be grateful. Now, seeing you address the loneliness issue, I'm even more grateful for what you do. Sorry for writing a book!

i am severely ill, it's great that these days a lot of things can be done at home. i know there are downsides, but especially before the recent pandemic it was much more difficult to get groceries brought to me here at home for example. things are much more easier for someone like me who is homebound. a friend of mine has bad anxiety, for her the non-interaction part has actually helped her to go out again. when she doesn't feel well she doesn't have to interact again but sometimes when she feels a bit better she tries to chat a little bit with someone at the store. it has helped her make a lot of progress. you make a lot of good points, but there is a flip side as well thank you for this interesting video x

I couldn't agree more. I also think cell phones are to blame. A while back my husband and I were in a restaurant and there was this young couple sitting in a both across from one another. They were both on their cell phones, but not talking. Then all of a sudden I see the girl look up at the guy and laugh and said yeah I know..right?! and they both laughed and went right back to the phones. They were texting each other...but NOT physically talking. That is so sad to me...people just don't communicate like we used to when I grew up.

That was a great mukbang. I’m solidly in the camp of you speaking on a topic rather than just eating. Actually, I consider what we’re in to be ** End Stage Capitalism ** not late stage. Totally agree that this is the root of the loneliness issue but I’m going to add a qualifier that ESC comes with the illusion of choice. It seems a natural human tendency to want more of everything, including friends/social interaction but with social media and technology, there is the illusion that everyone has access to more connections. But what I see happening is that most people go down the path collecting ‘friends’ without spending any time/energy on nurturing individual relationships. So it’s just an endless race to collect more random strangers with no actual connections. Nothing is lonelier than feeling alone in a crowd. In this area, I feel it is up to individuals to recognise and reject this pattern. Sure, there’s a lot of manipulation by tech companies through social media but if people can’t resist and take accountability for their own choices then the loneliness epidemic is not ending any time soon. I’m doing a bit of ‘victim blaming’ here but in this specific case, the victims have some control. Looking forward to Part 2!

Bon appetit. If you do even a single screen shot portion showing one single cute Korean picture-taking phrase per one of your episodes I would love that so much. 5:44 I am eating something delicious. I made a batch of the sushi bake from the LAST mukbang! Regarding the topics... I think whatever comes to mind or if you did have something you wanted to talk about (like the last 2) then that is good. I think the experience is a lot about feeling like you are having a conversation WHILE eating. (at least that is how it is for me) Automation is a really strange topic to broach for me. I agree with most of what you are saying... for me I would get rid of the jobs that we don't need people to do anymore, but the people who are no longer able to do those jobs should be compensated, but this is a really complicated topic that I don't want to have over YT comment sections. Also the car culture... It is also that they gut public transportation. Our city has never had 'good' public transportation, but it was useable. But recently, the government gutted the bus system and moved our train production out a decade (the last time I checked). So I can either; walk to work which would take roughly 3 and a half hours (one way according to google maps), or I can take the bus (4 busses to be exact) and it will take 2 hours and 30 minutes roughly... OR I can spend 22 minutes driving.

What your describing is how my grandchildren are. My oldest is 19 going on 20 in January. He works part time, goes to school part time and spends the rest of his time playing video games. He has no friends, has never dated and is always saying he can't stand people, they annoy him, and doesn't like to talk to people. I told him I am really concerned about his whole outlook on life in general. He spends most of his time alone in his room either playing video games or watching videos on KZbin. My granddaughter spends most on her time in her room, not even socializing with her family, she is still in school but has been homeschooled since 6th grade, mainly because of bullying issues with the schools. It is a scary time for all.

I haven't watched this yet but in my opinion the world has been moving further and further from God. When you don't have a relationship with God there is always an emptiness that never seems to get better. Something always feels like it's missing, so people try to fill up that emptiness with things like more and more work or money, toxic relationships or an addiction (not purposely trying to have an addiction it just eventually leads there like alcohol, drugs, sex, food,TV, etc). the more lonely they feel the more they try to distract themselves. I have gone through this myself and nothing helped until I turned to God. And that relationship has helped me through the craziness/fear of covid and the headlines getting crazier everyday. At the very least, it's something to think about.

A quote from Jon Stewart about individualism. “There are so many inherent contradictions in the American story. One of the greatest ones is… We are the greatest freedom loving individuals in the world who can do anything we put our minds to as long as we don’t do it together because that’s socialism. We are unbelievable individuals but if we work together, that’s fucked up. It’s nonsensical.” This is the problem. Society is so divided and no one can get along because of this.

Watching your video. Talking about the loneliness "epidemic." Loneliness is something that comes, and goes. I've lived a life of loneliness, then a life of wishing I was. There are stages in life. No. Capitalism does not cause loneliness. Capitalism has saved more people than any system in human history. Much of the problem is being told that you must never feel this way. You are right that self isolation is a big part of it.

I agree and disagree. Humans are not perfect unfortunately. Gossip, gaslighting , backstabbing, aggressiveness and lack of empathy creates a lot of distrust. People should definitely grow a thicker skin and backbone because human nature is never going to change. There are good people but it takes years to get to know someone. Life is just full and busy and nurturing a relationship takes a lot of effort, time, energy and money. Que sera sera….✌️💌

I disagree. I don't think we need thicker skins, I think we need kinder hearts. The sooner we can get onboard with kindness the better off we'll be. A thicker skin only keeps us separate

I agree with the fact you say loneliness is because of the getting further away from the community. Maybe that's why divorce is so high since couples expect every need comes from their partner and kids. But if there was a community it would take the load of the nuclear families when it comes to meeting everyone's need.

So with you that we are heading towards a bad situation by replacing humanity in the workplace. I've decided to opt for the human being at the supermarket rather than the self serve, just to ensure they can't be replaced!

Define loneliness, this term is too general, ambiguous and different for everyone. For instance, i only feel the need to have someone around when i need help to resolve something or find a solution and there is no one to turn to. Once i have no problem or i managed to solve it on my own, I'll be back to liking being alone. These kind of statistic reports aren't exactly accurate anyway. To me the lack of financial freedom seem to fit the bill for gen Z people. They just graduated from school, parents aren't supporting them anymore, they can't find good jobs, working with a lower wage than expected, can't earn enough to save for rainny days because of hyperinflation or can't find a meaningful and stable relationship

No, I disagree with the work reason.....From Gen X back....they worked the same amount of hours, if not more and they had more human connection. I blame cell phones. The invention of a such a device has made it so that we are less connected to people. We have access to the most amount of information and services, yet we are more stupid and less human to each other. Hence the Karen pandemic and the internet trolls. Why think when you can whip out your phone. We have lost the ability to think and be kind to each other and actually talk to each other. We spend more time online than we do actually going out and being social.

Tried to watch this and recently tried to watch your mukbang on raw vegan diets. But I just can't. Curious to hear what you have to say on both loneliness and raw vegan diets but I just can't do the mukbangs. The chewing sounds that come with the mukbang format are just too high a price of admisssion!
