Yesterday I went to see an EENT specialist to check if something was wrong with my ear due to recurring vertigo. Paid $55 for a 15 minute visit. And, to top it all at position 4 when I sat up after the maneuver was completed, the room spun so badly. Was told to come back in 2-days time if I am still experiencing vertigo. This video is by far, by a long shot, the easiest, most simple explanation EVER. No cost and easy enough to follow. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Please know that YOU are a lifesaver - you are making a HUGE difference to people like me. I am no longer scared, worried, or terrified of the symptoms. I now know how to manage it - all thanks to you, Dr. Tate. You rock!!!

@@marcyonsgard544 Make sure you're doing the correct ear( youll spin a lot in Position 1), wait 60 seconds AFTER the spinning stops before moving to the next position. When you do it correctly, when you keep your chin tucked and sit up into position 4 you won't have any spinning. If you do it means it failed or you didn't wait long enough.

Thank you so much for the video. My husband had to have a surgery where he was put under for about an hour. He came home to recover (slowly) but on the fourth day of recovery, this vertigo set in. He never had it before in his life, but at 57, it appeared. It was definitely positional, and mostly when laying down or turning during sleep. We watched your video numerous times (days) before he got the gumption to do it. (He was very nervous because that feeling of vertigo was so horrible he didn't want to feel it again when he laid down.) But after ten days of being miserable with the vertigo, and hoping it would go away on it's own, we did it. He laid down with his head to the right, and he said, "Oh, here it comes." I saw his eyes flutter for about 20 seconds. Then we finished with the Epley Maneuver exactly like in your video, and when he sat up, he wasn't dizzy. We want to thank you so much for posting this....his vertigo has been gone ever since!

Thanks for sharing your story it has gave me much needed encouragement. I’ve been suffering from vertigo for 10 days now. I do ok good during the day but once I lay down at night the dizziness comes on and I’ve been scared to do the treatment myself because I hate that feeling, truly terrifying! 😢 going to get the gumption up to try it at home now. @@theresahayes4294 I understand that fear because I share it. I experience that fear EACH AND EVERY TIME I experience vertigo due to BPPV. I have a recurring problem, sporadic, not often, but it terrifies me every single time and it sometimes takes me hours to get the gumption to do the Epley Maneuver. I have a fantastic PT near me with a cert in vestibular therapy. I could not live without his help when at home therapy doesn't do it. FYI, the cause of my vertigo isn't always BPPV; sometimes it comes from my neck/spine (in a way I do not understand)and that is less agreeable to simple maneuvers. Hang in there, I hope yours is a one time disruption, but there is treatment,as you see here. And Dr Tate deserves a medal for this straightforward,simple- to-grasp video.

I woke up to dizziness one morning and after 2 days of dealing with it, I finally got on line to see if I could find a way to get rid of it and I came across your video. The first thing I did was the test, to see which ear was giving me problems. Boy, did I find out fast! I did the test on the left ear first and it seemed fine. Then I did the test on the right ear and the whole room started whirling around at an alarming rate. So I did the Epley Maneuver right away and I felt 90% better. I did it 2 more times that day and I couldn't believe how normal I felt again. I was almost afraid to go to bed that night, thinking it might come back, but the next morning I felt perfectly fine with no dizziness at all. This video is a lifesaver and I thank you for sharing the information.

This cured my BPPV, but it took me like 5 attempts over 3 days. Here’s what I was doing wrong. I wasn’t lying back fast enough on position one and my pillow was too soft so my head wasn’t at the right angle. I used to feel spinning in the first position but not the second or third and then would feel spinning again when I sat up. This is a sign that the crystals went back to the wrong place. When I finally did this right, I felt spinning in position 1 and 3 and the last one it felt normal-ish again.

Okay so 2 days later, and this cured the vertigo happening in my right ear. I don't normally comment, but I was compelled to, given how effective your video and description were in being able to do this myself. I tested out my positional dizziness again two days later, and it's no longer there - at ALL! What made this video so effective was your ability to explain how the crystals get dislodged, and how to put them back using the ear model. That is what made my positioning purposeful when I was performing the maneuver on myself. Thank you so much!

I had intense terrifying vertigo a few years ago that sent me to the ER. After the tests to rule out stroke and other issues, I was told I have BPPV and shown the maneuver. It was successful, but now the doctors say since I've had it once, I'm likely more prone to it in the future. Today another bout of it set my anxieties careening out of control and I followed your video, after calming down and laying down, finding that laying on my right side made the world spin. I completed the maneuver, and the last step, sitting up... HOLY SHIT I thought I'd puke. It was so bad I crumbled into a pile on my bed, afraid to even move. I waited a bit, got my breathing under control, and sat up slowly. No vertigo. I'm HOPEFUL this is the end of this bout of it, but if not, I know what to do FIRST, rather than wait and allow the anxiety monsters to grab hold again.

That’s correct. I have had it since I was 15 after a head Injury. I had these little bouts every year or so sometimes longer. 100 percent of the time it starts when I wake up from sleeping in one position. I will stand up and POW the spinning starts…..I just do the eply manuever 3 times and it helps me a lot. You will have residual dizziness for a couple days after so take it slow.

So, first of all, I haven’t tried the maneuver yet, but I’m excited to go home and try it. Secondly, and more profoundly, I really wish everyone, *and I mean everyone* who gives advice about on KZbin (on just about anything!) would watch this video. “Why?”, I hear you ask. How many times have you needed to figure out how to do something? You go to KZbin to find a video about how to do it, and that task that requires 15 seconds is buried in a 10 minute video. Dr Tolman just goes right to the point. She shows you how to do it, and then gives you the additional information afterwards. KZbinrs: *show us how to do the task first.* Then give us all the details later. Thank you Doctor!!

Excellent. I've read dozens of articles and watched dozens of videos on the Epley maneuver, and this is the FIRST one to state that one should wait for the vertigo to _stop_ before beginning the 30-60 second wait prior to moving to the next position. All other sources just say to wait 30-60 seconds after reaching a position before moving to the next, which is very different. The importance of the final position is also something that's not mentioned in many other sources, which basically just say "now sit up".

This is the most professional video! Very clear explanation and demonstration. Dr Tate is the very best. My wife was in a rollover auto accident, suffered a broken neck and scapula with multiple bruises. Her dizziness from changing positions was an issue from the start but no one suggested this process. After months of healing, she was still getting wildly dizzy. After looking this up and researching videos, we chose Dr Tate's due to the clear and complete directions. My wife did the maneuver in the evening and slept in a recliner for the night. She did as little position changing as possible for the next day. That night, she did the "test which side" process and determined that she was not dizzy either side so elected not to repeat the process. She is totally dizzy free and is nearly bouncing off the walls active now that she is no longer affected by the vertigo. She has her life back, I have my wife back. Thank you Dr Tate!

I did this for my right ear and followed the instructions given…The dizziness from my right ear on the first movement was quiet bad but I stayed in the position and it went after about ten seconds and I then followed through till the end of instructions and did it once again…Brilliant..thank you so much now no Dizziness at all..And I will certainly remember these particular instructions…Once again thank you..

Thank you so much! 🥹 My friend recommended your video to me...at first, I was very hesitant, but I gave it a shot. It took me two attempts, however, I woke up this morning with no spinning or dizziness!!! I knew what I did wrong with the first try, so I corrected it and did it properly the second time. Believe me, this does work! You just have to trust the process and be patient while doing it. Also, sleeping with either two pillows or in a recliner will do the trick at night (it may feel uncomfortable for some, but trust me, it's worth it!!!) Thank you so much!!! I'm definitely keeping this video and I'm going to share it!

I started getting headaches after developing vertigo about a month ago and heard about the maneuver and found your vid first, explained amazingly and the crystal explanation was fascinating! I did it once, already knew it was my right side, got vertigo on every turn and when sitting up. Did it again a few mins later after watching more of the vid and there was NOTHING, I started crying out of relief thank you for this video so much and the information you provided, you are amazing.

This is THE BEST video on this. My spouse was suffering from vertigo for a couple of weeks. I stumbled into BPPV (about which I had not known earlier) and then this video. She performed it last morning with my help, kept her straight head until the night, and then used three pillows to sleep in a reclining position. The vertigo was gone this morning! Magic! Thank you very much.

I don't think I've ever commented on a KZbin video, but this time I have to. Last year I was suffering from bad vertigo while laying down or looking up, fortunately it only lasted for about a month and went away. This year it started again about two months ago, I had gotten so fed up with constantly being dizzy, especially with all the weird positions I have to be in while doing a house addition. Yesterday I stumbled upon your video and realized that this may be the cure. I watched your video 2-3 times and determined it was my right ear, did the maneuvers and waited a few hours before attempting to paint the ceiling. Surprise surprise! No vertigo! I laid down in bed last night, no vertigo! I jumped out of bed this morning, no vertigo! I am bookmarking your video in case this returns and will recommend it to anyone that has the same issues. Thank you so much for this simple yet effective fix ❤

This is the best video I've seen for the Epley maneuver! I don't get vertigo often, but when I do it takes me out for the rest of the day. It's so bad I shut all the blinds, put my sleeping eye mask on, and curl up in a bawl while trying to keep the nausea at bay. My husband found this video and it saved me!! It worked immediately! I wouldn't have believed it was possible had I not experienced it myself.

thank you so much! the important part is waiting the full 60 secs to let the crystals/debris settle in and move! It finally worked for me after waiting the full minute after each maneuver! And i felt dizzy with 3rd manuever which told me i was def doing this correctly! YAY relief after 10 days!

Dr. Tolman, thank you! This video helped me and my husband gain the knowledge and confidence to try to fix my vertigo at home. We have Tricare (military) healthcare, and the system is so broken that they told me I had to wait two months to see any medical provider at our base. !! So I had to go to the ER to get any help at all. At the ER, they did something similar to what you show, but did not tell me to keep my chin tucked in when I sat up, and I became terribly dizzy every time I sat up. So your video helped us understand why the ER visit helped but didn't totally fix my vertigo. I followed your video this afternoon with my husband standing by, and I feel better this evening. I'm going to wait a couple of days to see if I should try it on the left side.

I have watched several videos on this subject and yours by far is the very best. Not only do you do an excellent job of explaining the different aspects of BPP vertigo and the Epley Maneauver, but your use of a model of the ear canals adds so much to the video. It helps people understand the reasoning behind what the maneauver is doing, and why it may or may not work if the steps of the maneauver aren't followed correctly. Thank you so much for a video well done.

I woke up this morning, logged in to work and started feeling dizziness and after a while I was also super nauseous. I have friends/family who have had Vertigo so I thought maybe that's what I had. I knew there was a reset maneuver that you could do at home. SOOOOO glad I found this video. I did the Epley Maneuver per your video and the dizziness went away pretty much immediately, the nausea took a while longer but same day I am feeling pretty good. I am hoping that it is one and done and I will not be sleeping flat tonight! Thank you so much for the easy to follow video and the great explanation behind it all.

Just got Diagnosed with BPPV the other day and let me tell you waking up with it was very scary, the health care system where I am at is so backlogged here that to have a doctor show me or do the Epley maneuver for me would be a 8 hour wait as there are no beds available, they gave me sheets on how to do it but after a few time it did not work and I was feeling super discouraged, this video explained so much and really helped me understand it, before watching this video I tried the maneuver and when I sat up was extremely dizzy which i know realize was the crystals falling back in. Last Night before bed I tried it again after watching the video and waited 30 seconds after each position before sitting up and had no dizziness, I slept upright and will be retesting at the 24 hr mark to see if it is gone....Thank you for this video! it is so simple to understand and hopefully it worked and I do not have to deal with this again!!! not often do peoples video truly bring value, but this one definitely did!

This worked for me the next day. I get chronic vertigo. Had it my whole last trimester of my pregnancy and got it chronically ever since. My husband is a chiropractor and found out about it at a continuing ed class and it worked great when he did for me. Then for some reason it stopped working. And he retired so there was no treatment table. Vertigo kept getting worse and I was desperate to get rid of it. So he found this video and it worked! I asked him to help me with instruction so he could watch the video, pause and instruct me. Since position of the head is so important, you don’t want to keep picking up your phone to pause and unpause Thank you so much for posting this video! It works, the instructions are easy to understand and makes sense

This video and the comments are a godsend! I’ve been suffering with BPPV from oral surgery for 3 implants, a month ago. I’ve practiced Epley 2 times now, the first time, I followed the steps without pausing, because it wasn’t clear in another practitioners directions. The increased vertigo at steps 1, 2, 3, frightened me, because I didn’t understand that reaction. But with this video, she emphasized waiting “at least”, 30-60 seconds or until the dizziness subsides, before moving to the next step, which I did, and that’s where the healing began. I’m also not laying down for 24 hours, without being propped up with 2 or 3 pillows. I hope this helps others.

This video is AMAZING, thank you so much!! I woke up with vertigo this morning, I’ve never had vertigo before - it was awful & really scary. I did some internet research and found out about the ear crystals and epley manoeuvre then came across this video. It explains it so well. I had to do the manoeuvre three times but after the third time, the vertigo is greatly reduced. The video was so good at explaining what I should feel in each position so I could identify what I had done wrong the first two times when it didn’t work and make sure I did it correctly the third time. So important also to identify which side the issue was on (it was the opposite side to what I’d first assumed). I still feel pretty dodgy now and a bit nauseous but I’m hoping this will reduce over the next few hours and if it doesn’t go away entirely by tomorrow I will do the manoeuvre again in case there are a few little straggler crystals but I honestly feel so much better than I did when I first woke up, thank you!!

Thanks so much! About six weeks ago, I went to Massage Therapist and she tugged on my ears. After that I had vertigo. I noticed it first thing when I went to turned my head to the right during the rest of the massage. At first I thought it was an ear infection because one of my lymph nodes was swollen so I went to a doctor for that. Next, I thought that I needed chiropractic care. So I went to the chiropractor. The first adjustment was successful and the dizziness minimized. However, the second adjustment let things loose again. My vertigo was worse, so I went back to the chiropractor, it was suggested that I try the Epley maneuver which I had tried before. After my adjustment, I came home and tried to find a more detailed explanation of how to do it. I watched your video… Did the maneuver… And it worked! I appreciate your generosity in sharing your knowledge!
