I thought they did a fabulous job on this song. I didn't notice any pitch or nervousness problems. Think the judges were just being picky because the producers didn't want to have Rob take lead on this. They redid the song Colder Weather a few years later when Chance joined & it is just beautiful.

This one was the one that they had surprised HF with as a song choice made for them. and yes HF broke the rules and gave it to Rob to lead off . I think most of that "rare nervousness" was also lack of time to flush it out as fully as they normally would. They were told this is the song and we want Tim and Austin on it and HF just said nope it has to be Rob. Good for them. Too bad the time constraints happened and that in order to create drama for the show this was sprung on them. They pulled it off anyway and Home Fries Love it. so great big Raspberries to TV Producers.

One of the hardest things is to start a song cold turkey, that’s exactly what he had to do. The song was slow in the beginning and no beat underneath Robs vocals and the low ooohs under him. To me, though he may have been nervous I thought I heard the pitch wavering in the harmony parts! Hard slow start that was supposed to not be flashy but Rob started it exactly as it should have been started! Great job, new subscriber! Have y’all listened to Do you hear what I hear! It’s an Adam Rupp arrangement. Low bass Kenneth

Jeremy, you're the first reactor I've heard who agrees with the judges about Rob. I have yet to hear it, and I've listened to it many times. But, I really respect your opinion on this. As a sound engineer, you KNOW about the sound quality of music. I've watched the performances (of this episode) of the other three, and the judges were critical of all four groups. Two of the groups had to be in the Ultimate Sing-Off and was eliminated. Home Free was never in the bottom two, so Rob's so-called flub did not put them in the bottom two. (The Ultimate Sing-Off with Filharmonic was mandatory for all 6 groups, with two eliminated. This is where Voice Play was eliminated. 😢)

I think it was more the producers than the judges. In every season, it seemed that they wanted only one (or maybe 2) lead people in each group. Also, with identifying them as the country group, they can edit it in a way that appeals to certain voting demographics. In other words, just like all reality shows, it is molded by Hollywood-ization. As much as that is true of this show, I honestly thing it is more real than most of the competition shows. I would largely chalk that up to the judges being as good as they are. They (the judges) always try to give each group something to work on each week - even when the performance is really good, and they are experts in their fields, too, so their comments aren't just fluff. I have seen videos of live versions of this song from Home Free post sing-off, and they are beautiful.

Kinda reminds me that the only way they would let HF on the show this time was if they agreed to be known as the "country acapella" group. Tim was pretty much dead set against it, after having to write country songs for a living. Austin was willing to do it. The other guys didnt really have anything against country, but they weren't particularly thrilled. So Tim agreed. It worked out okay, but it still burns my brisket...

During the judges' comments, following each performance, recall the guys usually being fairly upbeat, smiley, especially Austin given the neverending praise and accolades. He maintains a fairly stern expression, here. My sense is that Rob finally had a chance to be out front by the guys going against the producer's plans, which netted him a bit of negative feedback which, then, quickly had them focusing their attention back on Austin. I imagine Austin thinking 'Enough already!' The show misspelled Rob's last name in the graphics and never saw fit to correct it. Even after HF won the season, Chris...the founding member of the group!...ended up receiving ZERO acknowledgements from the judges.

@lisaseverance6785
@lisaseverance6785 Жыл бұрын
With the politics going on behind the scenes and the guys insisting on Rob, I can understand his nervousness. And if you watch close, when they show his face after Sean talks, you can see by the look on Rob's face that he is thinking they may have lost because of this one song and the groups insistence that it be him in the lead. He looks sad and almost heartbroken. Pressure like that, I can understand a slight nervousness. The politics were bad behind the scenes I guess. Tim said in an interview that at one point, the judges were taking a long time to make their decision. Longer than usual and it was because the producers wanted one group to go home but that group had performed brilliantly that night. The judges essentially said "We can't send them home after that." The producers also kept trying to get the groups to trash talk each other which didn't work. They had to take comments that were jokes and turn them into what they wanted. Either way, I am a BIG Rob and Rupp supporter! Us Minnesotans have to stick together! LOL

I still think the judges were not entirely happy with the instructions to highlight only Austin and Tim. I don't know if it was judges or the producers who initiated the favoritism, but neither Shawn nor Ben dwelt long on their criticism, and Jewel didn't mention the pitch at all. Maybe I'm wrong. Whatever, obviously, (and I have a good, trained ear) Rob did not go flat, and Austin was dealt the more dramatic verse. Thank you for standing up for our guys -- after all, they did win!

I also get a chuckle from the byplay between the two of you. I look forward to Home Free Fridays. Jeremy, I have, over my vast years of family diversity been exposed to the full spectrum of music genres. Being the youngest member of the household I was at the lowest priority for getting air time for my preferences. I have noticed a whole lot of crossover between pop, easy listening, jazz, blues, and country. It is getting harder and harder to definitively classify much of the current music scene. The story goes the producers wanted all lead songs to be either Austin or Tim. HF believed in Rob and wanted him to sing lead on this song. Rob was nervous. He just didn't sell it. I was really afraid of you all hearing this because I knew you would KNOW that. But I think it's important for you to watch this. You know what Rob can do now, and you were surprised at this. Remember, this was the very beginning. Rob now (just an opinion) is the most learned musician of the group. As a singer, he he seems to me to have relative/perfect pitch, and he always keeps the boys in line. I think he is the leader that no fans ever look at, but the guys do, because they know. If you look at the behind-the-scenes stuff, the boys follow him, every time. Watch Austin look at him for cues in Nessun Dorma. They literally follow him every time, for good reason. I would follow Rob over everyone else. ASIDE: I think with Austin, and the comments he had from the judges, he had that young confidence that people are drawn to, so he gets commented on more. Youth is a selling point for these types of shows. Rob doesn't shine here. It's "shone" btw - yes, Jeremy. But Rob is much more confident now. I still think after this one, the judges loved their performance and rallied for them. And then they won. By the way, Jeremy, you already reacted to the one where Austin forgot the words (best thing ever - That's the Colder Memory Lapse that people are talking about.) For this performance, you were right. Hate to say it, but this is literally t he only Home Free performance that left me disappointed.

I can understand Rob being nervous because there were only 4 groups left and when you are put out there when you haven't been before you gotta be thinking what if I mess this up? But also I think the judges called Rob out on his minute flaw and had something to say about Austin hitting high notes because they really have not had anything bad to say about the Home Free performances and the other groups have been hearing good and bad about their performances, but Home Free heard nothing bad from the judges because they were so good, so this might have scared Home free a little bit but It really wasn't such a big criticism overall.

I do have to drive to each place for some of my medical care. If you are willing to live off the grid, there are places like where we live. Land goes for about $5,000.00 an acre if you buy 40 acres. You will also have to drill a well for your water. But it is yours & you don't have to share. Solar costs are about $25,000.00 for the start up. But there are some governments that help on doing solar. But when you stop & think about it, it's a 1 time cost & you never have to pay for water or power again.
