I like to think the judges were reluctant to follow the playbook given to them by the producers. But it was irksome that Chris and Rob were never given their due credit. I may be remembering wrong, but I believe it was this 4th episode that eliminated VoicePlay. With all its faults, I still enjoy replaying Home Free's journey through the Sing Off -- never tires me to remember how very talented they already were! Keep going -- great reactions!

I'm really enjoying the Jillian-Jeremy duo reactions! I agree with Jeremy: ...TV, production... (sigh) Austin is just a natural flirt. In the beginning, HF called Austin The Heartthrob. He's learned to contain it somewhat over the years. IMO, Oh Pretty Woman showed the judges that HF was more than a one-trick pony who could sing country. And the name of the game was to attract the judges' attentions (in a positive way). Good reaction as always!

They did a great job on this on song! Voiceplay came in 6th place Adam with his moonwalk while beatboxing it kinda kept that after the show at their concerts Adam sometimes would do a Micheal Jackson part in his solos ( dance moves and mirrored jacket and all ) it was amazing

Pretty Woman was one of the first songs Home Free ever performed. I mean right at the beginning - Chris, Adam and Matt. And I think it was sung to the pastor’s wife. I’ll have to go back to Chris’ History of Home Free and check. 😅

They never mention Chris at all and they didn’t want Rob to sing lead. They only said Rob was a good gopher and a great beard. Then the comment that Rob’s voice was pitchy in Colder Weather. Voice play was already gone. I think they did go on the Sing-Off tour after the show.

Maybe next do the Ultimate Sing-Off with Home Free and Filharmonic - you saw a clip of it at the end here. It's a spoof on the Caddy Shack song "I'm Alright," and Rob shines in a different kind of way in it, and it's really hilarious. Plus both of the beatboxers go head-to-head with a dual. There's no competition with Adam, of course, but it will also show you clearly how much better he has gotten since then. He's much more crisp now. Also, regarding Tim -- Shaun was just plain wrong. Tim sung that bassline in the background before the end of it the whole time, but they just featured it when all of the voices pulled out of that one part in the end. Shaun just didn't hear it before then. I know it doesn't matter now, but I get a little irked (using Jillian's word) because of it, too. One more thing - Jewel acts pretty flaky sometimes, but she knows what she's talking about musically and I love her for that. Whew that was a lot. Maybe I was a bit too honest in this remark, but I don't care! Great reaction as usual. You're my favorites.

Fun fact: Chris and Adam performed this song at Home 1st ever show in January 2001! I love Chris upbeat fun arrangements. performances, took me 8 years to become a 🍟 . I found Chris original songs and HF Christmas music. I heard Chris and Adam in the forefront. I have a Rupp siblings playlist! The guys and sister Tristan are my favorite singers on the planet! This was cute. Thought Austin stood out. Yeah the producers liked Austin and Tim and Adam so the judges pushed them but if you think about it….Austin was pretty much the main singer, Tim got the great low notes and Adam was great with percussion so Chris and Rob were kinda left in limbo. We love them but I guess the show didn’t have time to push the other two. I saw bigger groups out there and I can’t imagine they had much time but to talk to the main singers. Anyway, thought this was a good song for them. 😍😄

It was probably hard for them to give Rob and Chris the same kind of comments the other guys got because they only sang backup and didn't do any solo pieces so their voices could really be judged. I assume that Home Free did their own arrangements and decided who sang what, but I don't know that for a fact.

If you watch the whole show with the little bits in between and such, you end up with this thing where Austin was flirting with Jewel, but she really only had eyes/ears for Tim, but Tim was crushing on Nick Lachey. (I have no reason to think Tim is anything other than straight, but he brings a lot of bi energy to his public & stage persona, and that was certainly the case with The Sing-Off.) As for the judges' comments, I've heard they were edited for the show and they often gave more in-depth suggestions that were a bit too technical to include on the show.

To be honest, Colder Weather was their weakest performance IMO. There was a bit of pitchiness, and they didn’t always nail the chords. When I saw this broadcast, I remember being quite disappointed. I wonder if they would have ever done this song. I think it was one they were surprised with by the show. Maybe there just wasn’t time to get the arrangement and performance right. And Austin’s talked about how hard the show was on their voices. They were singing so much more than normal. I can see how by episode 6 it would be taking a toll. Especially being one of the two smallest groups.

Featuring Austin and Tim was not "politics". The band knew that they had to nominate two members before they started, and agreed that they should be Tim (with a unique bass) and Austin, who had extensive experience of production numbers of the sort that started every show. They then wanted to do what no other group was allowed to do, to introduce a third lead, and must have expected a reaction from the producers. If the judges had mentioned every single contestant, the show would have stretched out to the crack of doom and been very poor television. Not sure why people think that HF should have had preferential treatment. Chris has admitted that all the guys were smitten with Jewel. This was around the time that the band hired a beautiful stylist/photographer, Olena Noelle, who went on to live with Austin for five years. (She appears in a number of HF videos) He only started dating Amberly in 2020. You might check out the opening numbers of the SingOff episodes, which are really big impressive production numbers, except you would complain again that Tim and Austin were featured. They are both very impressive, dancing, singing beautifully and moving around the stage like seasoned veterans. The show at the beginning of Episode 1 had all the contestants in it. There are so many! and you can see why the producer wanted a couple from each group, and why the judges simply did not have time to mention everyone.
