Home free brings another one home! This one has a twist of country with improvised "instruments" that make this an incredible song to just sit back and appreciate!

I found these guys last year. This was the first song I ever heard from them & I was instantly hooked. The talent of these 5 men is insane. Together they are a perfect fit & complement each other so well. Tim Foust is the best bass singer in the business & Adam Rupp their beatboxer extraordinaire can make any sounds & is in a class by himself. They lean towards country but can sing any genre. They are my favorite a cappella group. This song is very old & is done in the bluegrass country style. It was used in the movie "Oh Brother Where Art Thou" starring George Clooney.

The Nomonica. I had no idea how much I loved country (at least the way home free does it) until about a year ago. I grew up on 80s pop but always loved Kenny Roger's, Dolly Parton, And some more pop country theu the years. I am a huge Freddie Mercury, Queen Fan. I was searching for Freddie videos and stumbled on this video, watched it and realized this was the group I watched win the song off back in 2013. I saw their whole run and knew the minute I saw them they had to win. Life got busy and music wasn't a priority. Then I fell into the rabbit hole and never came out. One concert and a Tim Foust backyard bash later and I can't wait to see them live again. They have a very special magic between their talent, senses of humor and personalities. Now I don't care if it's country, if it's them I know I will love it. Hope you are feeling better. So glad to see you back. Thanks for a great reaction. Sorry for the book.

Firstly, I hope that you’re feeling well. I’ve listened to this song so many times; there’s so much going on. I do enjoy bluegrass over modern day country. But HF can sing ANYTHING. If you want to hear an extended ‘harmonica’ solo from Adam, check out “Workin’ For a Livin’”, their cover of the Huey Lewis and the News song. The video is also a nod to the movie “Anchorman “. Lastly, the jaw harp sound was done by Chance.

it's also the vocal techniques they use here, especially Austin. He is a guy with a real Southern Accent, but he still had to practice & practice to get that Appalachian/Bluegrass sound. This is a VERY old song actually, 1st written in 1913 and finally recorded in 1928. I'd really like to see you concentrate on Home Free's videos from 2021 & the few we've had in 2022 so far...I think you'll enjoy them

This song was written in 1913 by a gentleman from Kentucky. It is what is called roots music and it morphed into todays Blugrass and Country music. It has been covered by many artist thru the years, here are a few : The Stanley Brothers, 1950 , Bob Dylan 1962? And the Soggy Bottom Boys in 2000 for the movie O BROTHER WHERE ART THOU. I was such a fan of the music a bought the sound track cd. So when I saw a reactor doing this song I had to listen. This is what started me down the road to becoming the avid HOME FRY I am today. Us Home Fries love to watch the reactors face when they see the RUPP HANDMONICA. The beatboxer Adam Rupp talent is simply amazing. Adam Chance was using Mongolian throat singing techniques the mouth, jaw or Jews harp sound you heard at the beginning and end of the song.

Bass man Tim Foust just released an album of old classic Do Wop songs you might want to check out. I think it's called "Pieces of Me". He really gets some high Falsetto for a low bass singer! This was filmed in northern Alabama near where group member "Chance" grew up. If you listen closely, when Austin Brown is singing the words "Northern Railroad", beatboxes Adam Rupp adds the sound of train wheels on tracks. Then at the end "Chance" does his "Throat Singing" to imitate a twangy ,country mouth harp. Loved your review!

Really amazing what Home Free is doing here. All five more than musicians, rather music artists. But what strikes me is that Chance is a bit undervalued here in this song. Like he does the Jaw Harp sound at the beginning and at the end. But also the background noises. It's all about the harmonies, the vibe in the group, the beautiful voices, the inhuman mouth sounds, the bass, the runs, the no Egos, no rivalry, figuring out which voice best suits which song, no special lead singer etc what makes Home Free so special.❤ By the way, I think you just missed Rob's special sound/phrase in between.😉

The way Home Free ranged this, to me, seems like a squirrel fest with one squirrel after another, and they seem to have painted each one more vibrantly as they went along. I mean harmonica teaser, yodel, harmonica, soul stealing base, and then finishing with the mouth harp reveal.

Adam Rupp is one of the top 10 best beatboxers in the world. He is amazing. I love every single one of these guys. Tim, who coached Avi Kaplan of Pentatonix and Geoff (Jeff) Castilucci of Voiceplay and taught them how to go lower as a bass singer and how to maintain that full deep sound. Austin whos voice is from the heavens, the main lead in this song. Rob who is the second singer, full of soul. Adam Chance, who we call Chance due to the two Adams, will surprise you with every video he is in. Chris Rupp, Adam Rupps brother, is the founder of Home Free and is no longer in the group. He is in some of the older videos and he is just amazing as well.

I think more folk then country, the meaning of the song demands the “southern twang” First recorded around 1919 or 1920 and then called “The Goodbye Song, or The Farewell Song”, it tells of a man bidding farewell to all he knows and loves. One line in the song explains its meaning, “For I am bound to ride that northern railroad, perhaps I’ll die upon this train” - - the song of a slave forsaking all he knows, his home, his friends, his loved ones, to break for freedom. Country, Folk, whatever, a much deeper song then anyone seems to pickup on or mention.

My idea on whether I like country tends to be based on two things. I don't mind the slides if they stay on key, which Home Free is perfect at. Not big on twang, but these guys do it great and purposeful! Also, it might be interesting to know that the main country drawl singer here also performs "Bring Him Home" from Les Mis! Fantastic voices each in their own voice and also blending so well!

Home Free is fantastic. Three of the boys are from the south. Tim, the bass, is from Texas. Austin, the lead here, is from Georgia. Chance, in the back with the beatboxer, is from Alabama. The other two boys Rob, with glasses, and Adam, the beatboxer, are from Minnesota. This song is over 100 years old but was made popular in the movie O Brother Where Are Thou. Yes, Home Free is country but sing all genres. I’m not a country fan either but I challenge you to listen to some of their other songs. I Can’t Outrun You (by Trace Adkins) is a bittersweet song that is incredible. Die a Happy Man is beautiful. In the Blood is powerful. Try those songs, I think you’ll be amazed. Good reaction. Chance was doing the mouth harp btw and Adam was doing almost all the rest. Austin the lead here can also do harmonica.

Glad to see you’re feeling better. Another great review. Their catalogue is so deep and as you know by now they cover so many genres. Even though you don’t love country I’d strongly recommend their cover of Take Me Home Country Roads - apparently it took them 5 years of crafting the arrangement to the point where they thought they’d done it justice. It’s a great showcase of each of their talents. Another often overlooked poignant song is I Can’t Outrun You, with Chance in the lead, he also directed the hauntingly beautiful video that adds additional complexity to the song. I guarantee you will not be disappointed with either one. From a 🇨🇦 Home Fry.

I don't like the twanga-twanga old-fashioned country stuff, but the newer stuff could do cross-over with no problem if the singer doesn't have an accent. I can't begin to count how many people have said that they don't like country music. Until they hear Home Free perform the songs. Or that they didn't like a specific song until Home Free did it.
