This is a pre-country, pre-bluegrass song from around 1900. The flip ups at the end of phrase and runs are part of the style of this time. But they do have a country-ish style that shows through even on their pop covers. Yep, all voice only, even the jaw harp and record crackle noise at the beginning.

The lead with the hat (&ginger beard), Austin Brown, is a classically trained high tenor in musical theater…..now, he’s from Georgia, & worked hard to loose the drawl…LOLOLOL, but, when Home Free found him, they told him he’ll need it back at times. He’s an amazing singer‼️💥‼️ The Bass…Tim Foust, from Texas…one of the lowest ‼️. There are NO INSTRUMENTS…it’s the wonderful talent of Adam Rupp.💥🔥🥰‼️ He eats a drum set for breakfast 😅🥰🔥💥‼️ Well, now you’ve found Home Free….hope you keep coming down here in the Home Free rabbit hole…. Enjoyed your reaction and just subscribed. If it helps you any, here’s a quick break down of the group. Home Free was started by two brothers Chris and Adam Rupp while they were at university. In older videos you will see Chris - he sang baritone, usually wore a cowboy hat, has a balding head and left the group in 2016. Adam is the beatboxer and has won two championships. The guy with the beard and glasses is Rob Lundquist. He sings tenor. Both Rob and Adam are from Minnesota. The lead singer for this song was Austin Brown. He is from Georgia, currently lives in Nashville, Tennessee and sings high tenor. The bass is Tim Foust. Tim is from Texas, currently living in Nashville. He has an incredible 5 octave range so he can sing super low bass (this was not his lowest) to high tenor. The guy in the back wearing a vest is Adam Chance. He replaced Chris in 2016 and is a baritone/bass singer. He sang bass in his previous group so can cover the bass part in this one or sing baritone as Chris did. He has a 4 octave range. Since there are two guys named Adam in the group, Adam Chance is known as Chance to avoid confusion. It was Chance who did the sound of the mouth harp (also known as a Jews harp or jaw harp) at the very beginning and ending of the song. There is no one main singer, whenever they get ready to do a new song they sing among themselves and decide who’s voice is best. They are the only known country a cappella group in the world but they can and do all types of music. They also are very funny and have some songs that are just meant to make you laugh.

It's acapella, they are just so good that you can't tell easily that it's all vocal. The last guy you saw that was standing beside the beatboxer in the back (name is Chance) was the one making the mouth harp sound going into and out of the video. The bass is Tim, the first singer is Austin, The singer with glasses is Rob and the beatboxer is Adam.

Welcome to Home Free. I discovered them last year during the pandemic and fell in love. Yep, that’s all ‘a cappella’ and Adam, the beatboxer, is amazing. He’s a twice world champion. He does drums, harmonica, bugs, all kinds of sounds. You can see a KZbin video of him called Adam Rupp Drum Solo. Tim Foust (yes, you pronounced his name right) is the bass and has a 5 octave range so he can sing bass all the way to tenor. Rob Lundquist (with glasses) is the tenor. Austin Brown (high tenor) sang lead in this song and Adam Chance in the back row with dark hair is the baritone/bass. He was doing the mouth harp sound in the beginning and end of the song. Home Free won the NBC show the Sing Off in 2013. They sing a lot of covers but also write and sing their own songs. Known for tremendous harmonies. They can be serious or silly depending on the song. Yes, you should see Tim Foust and Peter Hollens in Misty Mountains. It’s tremendous. Good reaction!

Home Free came to the public's attention when they competed on NBC's competition show "The Sing Off", which featured nothing but a capella groups. Home Free was unique, in that they were the only group that styled themselves as primarily a C/W band. They aren't limited to this genre as they also backed up Jewel, one of the judges, in a very modern jazz-inspired rendition of "Have Yourselves a Merry Little Christmas". All the members have musical degrees, and some have written/arranged original pieces that the group has recorded (Check out Tim Foust's "Champange Taste on a Beer Budget" and "Full of Cheer"). Adam Rupp, the beatboxer, has won international competitions in his craft; Tim Foust, the bass, was originally trained as a tenor, and retains those upper registers, giving him a 5-octave range (Note that, after his solo verse, he drops a full octave when everyone else joins in refrain). I'm told that Chance, the baritone (Who also doubles as bass when Tim takes the lead), does the jaw harp/digeridoo sound that opens and closes this number.

It is ALL a capella...100%. You can check out a "Adam Rupp Drum solo" which will blow your mind. Home free sings.....very true to the originals with their own tilt on it...even the vocal percussion is very realistic and not overdone...and Tim's bass is very appropriate for the song. Austin Brown is the high tenor, Rob Lundquist is the second tenor, Adam Chance "Chance" is baritone/bass and covers bass when Tim Foust (bass with 5+ octave range) has lead...and Adam Rupp is the vocal percussionist (and yes, the Harmonica was vocal). The first and last "instrument" you hear is the Jew's harp. That's not Adam Rupp (beatboxer, harmonica) but Adam Chance, in the black vest. He's called by his last name since there already was an Adam when he joined summer 2016. Adam and his brother Chris founded the group in 2000. You'll see Chris in videos from before mid-2016, usually wearing a cowboy hat -- Adam's drum solo and All About That Bass, to name 2 -- before he went solo. The group has done a lot of "remote" videos because of the quarantine, filming separately in and around their homes and sending the footage in to be fit together into some fantastic and fun films. Some of those you should check out are Quarantime, Sunday Best, Down to the Honkytonk, and Folsom Prison Blues. And then there's I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For, the U2 cover by Peter Hollens feat. Home Free. Both Peter and Home Free had their fans on Patreon send in video of them singing the song. The number I heard was 350, edited together backing the 6 men in a choir that is breathtakingly beautiful. Other Home Free videos you might enjoy are The Butts Remix, Elvira (feat. the Oak Ridge Boys), and Guilty Pleasures. Guilty Pleasures and All About That Bass also have blooper versions that are even funnier. Also, Austin Brown (main vocal here) did a solo turn, backed by Steven Martinez on guitar, of Unchained Melody that IMHO outshines the version in the movie Ghost. Enjoy! Oh, and I really love your reactions. Looking forward to more.

"Folsom Prison Blues" is a must if you want to hear Tim go REALLY low... "Hillbilly Bone" and "Your Man (live)" as well... Oooo that sounds amazing, I do admittedly have a soft spot for country so I cannot wait to see what they have in store, as well as seeing how they switch up their style. Thank you so much for letting me know :)

Austin Brown (the lead singe on this) spent years in college (on a full music scholarship) trying to nullify his Georgia accent. When he joined Home Free they told him to stop trying. The band sings just about any genre and their collaborations with Texas Hill, Lee Greenwood, Kenny Rogers, Don McLean and The Oak Ridge Boys are wonderful. When Don McLean ("American Pie") asked how he should sing it, they told him however he wanted to, that they'd adapt to him.

Bud...I work with and respect a guy a whole lot who is an ex chef, and an acknowledged pagan who takes off 3 weeks a year to go to bloody hell awful places to fight in MRC for point building for his clan, Mississippi in June is now averaging above 41 degrees. He claims to have to drink over 12 liters of water a day when he's doing these events. Festivals with music is a great way to help enjoy time between matches here in the States. Don't feel sorry about how other people refuse to enjoy, just be aware that these music's are all around, and when we're led to discover a great thing, don't feel left out by the peoples of the past, make yourself known as having finally arrived to enjoy too.

I just heard your reaction & became part of your subscribers. Ok, since you are new to this group, I suggest you check out a couple of Adam Rupp drum solos. They do these during concerts, so you realize those sounds are actually coming from a person. Also, they did a live performance of 9 to 5 that shows all of the guys beat boxing. Welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole

Love your reactions to Voiceplay and Home Free. They are both amazing groups, though VP is going through a member switch up recently. I’m sure it’s been suggested but VP “My Mother Told Me” or “Carry on my Wayward Son” are great ones for them, and “Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget” is a fun one for Home Free.

I just subscribed!! Welcome to HOME FREE HOME FREE is a county A Capella band (NO INSTRUMENTS) that does more than just country. Tim Foust, the bass (5 octave range) , Adam Rupp, the beatboxer (freak of nature), Adam Chance (Chance) is the baritone/bass, since 2016, he took over for Chris Rupp (one of the founders of the group), Rob Lundquist, tenor and Austin Browm high tenor make up the voices of angels. PLEASE listen to more.. If I know my Home Free family well (Home Fries) , they have already given you suggestions of music. LOL Thanks for the reaction

Seeing as I'm late to the party, all your questions have probably been answered by now. But I agree with 'what the actual fuck' and the Tim crush 110%! All five of the guys can cover some beatboxing, tho Adam is The Beast. Tim's got a 5 octave range, Chance has 4 octaves, and the tenors are super flexible as well. I'm really glad you found Home Free - you won't regret listening to *any* of their songs, whether cover or original. You've already reacted to several, but I think you'll like these: 'Everybody Walkin' This Land', 'Undivided', 'Champagne Taste (on a Beer Budget)', and 'Blue Ain't Your Color'. You might also want to check out Tim and Austin's solo channels - they've been busy over quarantine and have kept us happily occupied ;) Thank you for sharing your reactions with us! I love your observations, facial expressions, and obvious enjoyment of the music. That honesty is precious, thank you sir!

Adam Rupp is a world class beat boxer/vocal percussionist who's "no-monica" is legendary. Others can do it but not as well as Adam. The other 4 do a little beat boxing, but not close to Adam's skill level. Every one of these guys are ridiculously talented. You will never be disappointed with Home Free.

That was, I believe, from when they did Sing-Off together. It amazed me what Austin could do with those outlandish teeth in his mouth. Actually, if you want to get a sample of what Home Free can do, watch their entire Season 4 Sing-Off - with the judges' remarks. And then be aware that they can do so much more. Actually, it was during Sing-Off that the top three a cappella groups met, Home Free, VoicePlay, AND Pentatonix. Avi even appears in at least a couple of Home Free videos (Ring of Fire and Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget). Enjoy the Home Free, very wide, very deep rabbit hole.
