The reason we like reactors to wait is because if you don't know the group well enough, you don't appreciate the change ups. Besides, we Home Fries love to anticipate your reactions to Home Free's surprise moments. It's become more common for Chance to take over bass so that Tim can run wild wherever he wants. Lol! We always talk about Tim's 5 octave range, but Chance (I've read) has a 4 octave range himself. And it's getting harder to tell who's covering the bassline if the cameras aren't on them. What can you say? Home Free is a herd of magical Unicorns that spreads joy like glitter everywhere! No matter your mood Home Free has a song for you! 🦄❤

People hear Tim and think that's a normal bass... when he is technically a contrabass. Adam Chance is a bass-baritone, with a STRONG baritone range and a decent bass range, while also being able to cover low tenor. Chance really is a secret weapon for Home Free.

This song is one of my favorites. So glad you waited to react to it. Your surprise at hearing the switch ups in the voices was great. Tim can sing in a beautiful higher tenor voice along with Austin & Rob. And Chance can hit the lower bass notes when needed. And Adam did a fabulous job as always with his vocal percussion. The original song is sung by a woman Cam, so they sung it in a higher key to match the original.

This is my favorite Home Free cover song besides "How Great Thou Art" & some of their Christmas songs. Just remember, "Chance" was the BASS singer for "Street Corner Symphony". His range isn't as wide as Tim's but it's still great! The "change ups" are the reason Home Fries ask reactors to wait until they KNOW the guys & what they normally do in the group before they react to "Mayday"! This just shows how incredibly talented these guys really are!!!😊

Yup, you were 100% ready . Amazing thing about this five man group is they have three bassists: Chance, Tim, and Adam. Five tenors: Chance, Tim, Adam, Rob, and Austin. Five beatboxers: Chance, Tim, Adam, Rob, and Austin. Along with those roles they have a ground shaking seismic bass in Tim, a freak of nature vocal percussionist in Adam, a sky high tenor in Austin, a silky soulful tenor in Rob, and a sultry salt of the earth baritone in Chance. First, I thought you said this group was only five guys and how did they find so many guys with the same names? Yeah, five guys, Tim, Rob, Adam, Austin, and Chance. Thats only five.

Tim's A0-A5 range means he has both the deepest and the second-highest voice. Austin's range is slightly smaller, but goes highest (D6) and second-lowest (E1). Chance's range is F1-F5, but he likes to stay in the middle of that span. Rob's silky-smooth range extends from Bb1-G#5. Hitting C2 makes you a bass. Hitting C5 makes you a tenor. All four do both, so they sing whatever part they choose.

I saw Mayday when released. What I love, hard to explain, freedom to be oneself & not being type cast. Many in musical group settings assume that because a person can fit a certain range (bass, baritone, alto & tenor) that's all they can do. That attitude is wrong. If one reviews Broadway & opera, so many singing roles require multi-octave ranges. Gospel, rock ballads, country & R&B shows how wide and diverse their ranges are. Brothers Chris & Adam Rupp helped start the group, (Chris left a few years after the success of The Sing-Off). Because of the years spent being a group, they have very tight harmonies that has produced a vault of song recordings they've done over the years. It seemed to me; the group needed a stronger vocal baritone/bass. Tim's journeys into tenor gave them a weak or non-existent bass line. Chance's support is clearly heard & recognized in Mayday as well as Snow Globe another one of my favorites. Adam Chance's ability as a bass gave coverage. There's a change in sound one can hear from Ring of Fire & Your Man to End Of The Road & Helplessly Hoping. Chance an integral part of that. ====== Mayday This song was written & sung by a female singer (Cam). Her video was more aviation style. It was about a woman in a relationship needed to get out when realized it was crashing around her, hence, 'Mayday'. This song shows their range, strengths & blending harmonies Many make assumptions everything is either sung by Austin or Robb, NOPE! There are THREE tenors singing. Tim does not drop to the bass might slightly do baritone but 95% of time singing tenor. Tim was originally trained as a tenor & the bass came later on. Tim sings exclusively tenor on this song doing solos, duets & trios nothing else! I had to listen 3xs with eyes closed to hear melodies & counter harmonies who did what regarding tenors. (Tim & Lundquist, Tim & Austin, Lundquist & Austin). Meanwhile, Chance is doing ALL the bass line. Chris Rupp left as their baritone, Adam Chance was his replacement. Adam had more extensive range being a baritone & bass. He's also been the predominant bass. It shows from the very beginning of this song as Tim's singing tenor, no one questions who's doing the bass line, as many assume Tim is doing a track. Nope! Chance doing the bass. That's all Chance in Snow Globe (Tim wrote) too. Once Chance hits a typical Tim note that's when many notice. That's the key, the song doesn't keep oneself to a role but multiple roles hence told to hold back to know who typically does what. SIDE NOTE REGARDING THE SING-OFF: I wish they continued The Sing Off show. They had good judges & recognized good a capella groups. Criticism? Shouldn't have had over 6 members, it loses spontaneity & flexibility when have massive choirs. Reason seasonal unlike the other vocal competition shows. The expense/logistics aspect of housing that many was burdensome. It also was taped so lost spontaneity of a live contests & constantly switched when it would air. Lyrics: You are overbearing; I'm not in love But I don't wanna tell you We've been contemplating how to give it up But I can't convince you We've been hopelessly holding too tight When we don't even need to And as the water fills this sinking ship I know we have to leave too Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away But you can't hear me call mayday, yeah, yeah Said I'm moving on, cause things were getting rough But here I am in your bed I strung it on too long, afraid to be alone Now we're in over our heads It's either sink or swim, we've tried so many times For worse or for better It tears my heart in two to leave it all behind And say goodbye forever Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away But you can't hear me call mayday, yeah, yeah Oh, you gotta let me leave Oh, the weight will make us sink Oh, could you please help me leave? Oh, abandon ship with me Mayday, mayday This is an emergency Mayday, mayday You've gotta let me leave I'm lying here, inches away But you can't hear me call mayday Mayday, mayday (You are overbearing; I'm not in love) (But I don't wanna tell you) Mayday, mayday (You are overbearing; I'm not in love) (But I don't wanna tell you) Mayday, mayday (You are overbearing; I'm not in love) (But I don't wanna tell you)

knock your socks off good. The vocals were absolute perfection and Adam's beat boxing was fire.

Thanks AB, for doing this song, and again your wonderful reaction. This probably TMI - But, I wanted to let you know how much your reactions, and sense of humor mean to me. As someone of ill health (cancer and numerous other health issues) and no Quality of Life, and nothing expected to get better. Your reactions make my days better. I'll be 65 mid April, and will not be able to do anything but watch Netflix, or listen to music and KZbin reactions. I haven't left the house except for medical appointments, labwork, procedures, treatments and surgeries since October 26, 2019. Besides reaction videos I listen to music, both are my escape mechanism to "zone out" and escape. If I had one group to recommend it would 3 ANGELS, that along with Home Free and many others have gotten me through some dark days [including yourself]. They are the Rainbow Girls, and mostly under known outside the west coast. Trio of 3 ladies, making good music. What genre? You tell me, rock, blues, folk, or all the above. I'll say this, you can't go wrong with a stand up bass, a slide guitar player, and a cute redheaded keyboardist (well she can play guitar and harmonica as well). This video has two songs in it, 8 minutes total. The 1st song is "Something I've Been Meaning to Say" The second song ques up at the 4:17 mark, "It's Alright" kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHnLmnt3mKh3kJY There's an original song they wrote about an incident of police brutality in Baton Rouge, it's tribute to the son of the man killed unjustly by the BRPD. "Cameron Sterling" kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXykeHVndr56qqM - At my age, I could list groups and songs from 1965 to present. But I won't. The last 3 years I've been searching out the new and up and comers, not necessarily young people. I was amazed at the number of artists out there mastering their craft, and without computerized digited crap. They took the time and put in the work, to learn. I'll close now. Thanks Again for everything you do, I know how time consuming it must be.
