Tim has actually blown out speakers with some of his low notes. Surprisingly enough never on that song (to my knowledge). Avi actually helped write and produce on their first record after the Sing Off. He also has a cameo in their video Champagne Taste (On A Beer Budget), which was the first song Tim wrote for the group.

That was a G1 on the last note. He hits an E1 in do you hear what I hear and a D1 in honey, I’m good (both growl notes). If you wanna hear his range, listen to man of constant sorrow live version. At the end he does a descending slide from E2 to E1 and a growl E1 on his lead portion. He’s amazing.

Geoff of VoicePlay goes low a lot: Moana Medley (listen for sustained low note toward the end of the medley), most of the Nightmare Before Christmas covers, and Queen in 5 Minutes. @niklasjeanscapbauer78554 жыл бұрын
Tim Foust (the bass of Home free) used a technique called the growl or the fire-breathing technique. It's a technique that didn't use the normal vocal chords but your falsechords. The vibration of these chords is created by a distinct chance of your throat muscles combined with an outcoming airflow. With this you are creating an first octave tone with a airy like tone from your breath. I think that it's pretty easy to learn and geoff (the bass of voiceplay) and avi can do it too but Tim is the master of this technique. Even goeff said that in one of his bass tutorials. If you wanna hear more of Tim using this technique you could react to Elvira, Honey I'm good or do you hear what I hear. 👍
@bradriley26144 жыл бұрын

Just imagine what a song with several collaborating Bass voices like those mentioned would sound like...You couldn't televise it, you'd blow out every speaker on every media device across the world. By necessity, this would HAVE to be a travelling show that uses Amphitheaters to sing in, not football stadiums but proper amphitheaters. Smaller crowds, more shows per day, traveling all the time...just because blowing speakers would be a real danger for these guys on a regular basis. lol

I believe Tim & Avi have been friends for awhile. Tim's lowest notes are breathy but on pitch. Avi's are full and loud (possibly due to voice training). People confuse Tim Foust with Tim Storms. Storms has the record for hitting the lowest notes. Vocal range has been "guessed" not necessarily accurate (as most people guess listening to recorded videos/songs. Many have guessed multiple ranges for them) Tim Foust's range C1 - A5 (Home Free 4th season winner The Sing-Off) Avi Kaplan's range F#1- E♭5 (formerly Pantatonix 3rd season winner The Sing-Off) Gregg Castellucci range C1 - A5 (Voice Play 6th runner up 4th season The Sing-Off) Home Free did this version of Ring Of Fire for The Sing-Off (minus Avi Kaplan) They were unsure how it would come across being it was a Johnny Cash standard. They were apprehensive country music fans their genre wouldn't take it well. It did surprisingly well, as it helped them continue on to win that season. It also became one of their popular songs as well. Tim Foust was their secret weapon as he has a large range (doesn't help he's cute too). As for Avi being in the video, it does 2 things. - It gives Foust strong back up as he sings lead (this is an accapella group. Avi & Tim trade off singing the bass accompanying parts. One can hear the running bass in the background. - It shows off "both" of their wide ranges. Avi also has the Avi Kaplan has the ability to sing around the high notes as Tim. - Both get to sing duo at one point (hear it near end of song) Foust is doing side projects exploring other music as Avi is too. As for this particular song's history: Johnny Cash's personal life couldn't have been more interesting. His first wife was very jealous (it was also rumoured she was a light black). Cash toured with the Carter Family multiple times. It lent to a blossoming "creative" relationship with June Carter & later romantic. Which led to problems at Cash's having issues with his first wife, Vivian Liberto. June Carter wrote it, it was supposedly written about their "forbidden" love. At the time, he was married (1st wife) with kids, and, she was too (2nd husband) with kids. After awhile, they divorced their spouses and married. They were married for over 30 years with 1 son together. It never was intended for Cash to do it, her sister cut a song first. Then they did it as a duet. It became one of Cash's most popular songs. The 1963 country music hit became synonymous with the Man in Black for the rest of his career, topping the country chart for seven weeks and spawning myriad covers in Nashville and every other genre over the next 50 years. It's one of the greatest hits of Cash's career

Putting Tim and Avi together is like two layers of chocolate. And Rob is the whipped cream. Austin the cherry on top. Check out their cover of 'Amazing Grace' with Peter Hollens playing the part of the cherry. Austin does the crushed nuts on this sundae. Wet eyes on the rise. Avi does a cameo, but no vocal other than "yeehaw" in 'Champagne Taste on a Beer Budget', an original composition by Tim Foust. Rob whistles on this one, which of itself is worth the price of admission.

I was privileged to see Home Free in Brisbane in Jan 2020. What's crazy is that Adam Chance, who replaced Chris Rupp (in this video) is a tenor who also is a bass. Can also recommend almost all of the Christmas carols for that magic 'chord', and incredible bass notes..
