If memory serves me right Avi won the first ever award for human bass guitar, and is a classically trained opera singer. During the competition show "The Sing Off" Avi and Kevin got to be know as "Meat and Potatoes"because of the way they held down rhythm section in Pentatonix.

Avi did all the vocal tracks, including the killer bass undertones. There are instruments, mainly percussion, playing. Live version includes keyboard, drums, bass and electric guitars. Check out Full Moon to hear more of his higher range. He has an acoustic version - with him playing the guitar while singing.

I may be wrong, but in more than one comment from Avi, there is an organ and a drum accompanying him. It’s very subtle though. Most of it is just Avi.
@janetranslates
@janetranslates 4 жыл бұрын
@@jeancaldwell5391 You're not wrong. I think there's more percussion than just a drum, but he tweeted right after the premiere that he uses some percussion and "a little bit of organ," but that all the vocals are him. My impression is that he didn't necessarily PLAY the organ and percussion (though I'm sure he could).

I always take this song and "otherside" together. This is the battle cry, the call to war and Otherside is the aftermath and someone in the battle breathing his last and asking to be taken to the other side 🤷‍♀️

On his studio tracks he does a bunch of layering/harmonizing with his own voice, mixes his low notes with instruments like cello, base drum etc, adds whatever he feels like to create the atmosphere he initially imagined for said song to have At concert the arrangements are more "concert-y" (I think I don't know how to say), with band that changes, and his voice live is the frickin SAME quality if not better 👌🤩

You might put Peter Hollens on your list. Most of his stuff is human-voice only (a lot of covers, medleys, mashups, & a few parodies), and while he's done a number of colabs (including with Avi Kaplin & Tim Faust), most of his work is layered harmonies of... himself. Also, if you haven't already seen it: Weird Al-- Word Crimes.

I had the great pleasure of seeing him in concert in Chicago, March 2019. It was an amazing show. The best was when he did this song! It's awesome to hear it with headphone, but to hear it live is AMAZING!!! The whole song vibrated in you body but the deep bass REALLY rattled your chest!! We will absolutely positively be at his next concert!¡ You really should check him out in concert. You wont be disappointed.. Rock On!!

I'll add another Avi request, but it's not one that is mentioned here. The first solo single he released (well, Avriel and the Sequoias, which was his first solo project) was entitled "Fields and Pier". It is *not* a cappella (he plays his guitar throughout, there are strings, and Kevin's custom-tuned cello is heard as well), but it is a wonderful song. The scenery is lovely too--Avi searched for locations to film the video, and while much of it was filmed in Central California (where he grew up), the pier is in Oregon. It is very different from anything he ever did with Pentatonix, and is quite different from "Change on the Rise" as well (although, to be fair, *everything* he has done is different from "Change on the Rise").

Yess , my favorite , you make my day :) :) !! I love his music (and him as a person as well ) , it's so different then with PTX ( which I love as well ), but his own music is more folk/bleugrass. I love the tone of his voice, it's like dark chocolate :), so warm and rich !! He's a great vocalist , but does a lot of whistling in his songs and he can do overtone singing , you should check that out, it's awesome !! All the vocals you hear are his , there's only some organ in it and a tambourine I think. Other great songs are "Full Moon" , " I'll get by" , "Born in California" . Well , actually every song of him is great ( sorry, I will stop fangirling now , LOL )

Avi does the bass singing in the background. I think he had some percussion and another instrument added in as well. He does this in Live concerts as well, which I didn't get to go see, but there are some videos out there from Amsterdam and I think London as well from this year. TFS Avi is one of my favs!! Also, he released an EP in February.
