When the generator head receives a load from let's say an air conditioner, what tells your diesel engine to add more fuel to keep up with the load demand?

Built in governor keeps rpm to what ever I set it at.

Its own governor, same with gasoline plant motors used in generators. A bit of fine tuning to allow more spring pull from the speed setting reduces the rev sag under load I'm pretty sure.

I have a few questions what is the top RPM of that diesel engine? How come you couldn't just direct connect it with a coupling instead of using pulleys? What size pulley do you have on the diesel engine and what size pulley do you have on the generator head?

The shaft in engine is tapered shaft, it's actually made for a generator head. I wanted a gen head made locally, not overseas. I found this unit made here in CO so I used a pulley. I went with a 4" and 3" pulley max rpm in motor is 3600rpm. At 2:1 with 2" pulley, ratio it vibrates to much so i went to a to 3" pulley. It can handle loads much better and still has a sweet spot for vibration and noise.

Quick question can this run on biodiesel? I'm looking to build one to power a rural home and if it would work with biodiesel it would be really cheap. Also what is the efficiency? This is a great build btw...

It should run on bio as it's a mechanical injection pump, the fuel lines need to be compatible. Not sure on efficiency as I have not received it more.than a few hours at a time.

Nice, but DO NOT use aluminum pulleys. Aluminum pulleys are only meant for fractional horsepower motors like one in a drill press or a Bandsaw. Using them with an engine is unwise since the torque can blow the pulleys apart. Steel pulleys are to be used with larger motors or engines.

If you want a fantastic generator set for home you can use the single cylinder 4LD820 LOMBARDINI engine and the SINCRO FK 4pole alternator. This setup can deliver 5,5KW and run at 1500 RPM 50Hz or 1800RPM FOR 60Hz the mechanical coupling in conical 23mm. The LOMBARDINI 15LD series can not run at low speed. The 4LD820 is the only one single cylinder that can run at low speed (specific regulator must be order to Lombardini) that is produced by Lombardini.

iw3ioj wrong , 15ld440, 15ld350 etc also have veriable fuel rack, so can be idled and adjusted all the way up to 3800rpm

I have the Lombardini 15ld440 and. Idled perfect and they idle strong why do you think they don't ? 15ld engines are not fixed speed

Can you calculate a homemade generator that can power a DC or AC motor of a converted electric vehicle? I suppose the Lister engine is not suitable because it requires a motor with speed acceleration. This in order to avoid the use of batteries, I believe these will be expensive in the future, and I do not think their waste is very ecological.

Jaime Mariño electric cars usually run on 208v AC or more. dc motors are very inefficient for electric cars. ideally you would have a small lithium bank for surges of power you need then have a fossil fuel engine charge it back up. this is what the Chevy volt did. if u want to doodle with this cheaper to build a vw or other light weight car, e-convert it, get some agm batteries from Craig's list. depending on build expect a 10-20 mile range. carry a harbor freight 2 stroke generator if you want but easier to plug in home each night. doesn't answer your question but to many variables and diesel generator for this use is inefficient. a gas turbine generator is a different story.

nicw bit running that engine at 1800 rpm would give you aprox 2000 watts

The govenor keeps the rpms at 2400 give or take. I upped the pulley size
