I ran out of my dryer sheets and I remember you can use vinegar for static cling....even though its the smell I love from the dryer sheets, the vinegar doesnt smell at all and it actually works. My clothes came out of the dryer static free! I just never realized that vinegar is used in hundreds of household purposes and its dirt cheap! Thanks for the post Todd!

Vinegar also works great to remove bacteria and such from clothes! I had an ongoing staph infection problem on my leg that lasted a little over a year. The medications weren't working. I got a new bed, didn't help. One of the nurses recommended I wash my clothes and blankets with hot water and vinegar (cold water also works if you're washing dark colours.) My staph infection is gone and now I always throw in a cup of vinegar to my wash! Highly recommend!!

I used conditioner in mine that is organic and supposedly has less nasties in. It wasn’t cheap but considering the huge jar I did it in worth it. Reason I wanted to make this was more to cut out as many chemicals as I could rather than the cost (although buying said conditioner in the sale is also helpful lol) I only added that so it didn’t look like a jar of water and added extra scent lol. :,D conditioner was dr organic at Holland and Barrett uk.

What a great idea! One of my old friends had use to use vinegar to soften her cloths and would always recommend it. I would have to first try this on my white old towels. I would be afraid the conditioner would leave a stain on my blouses. Has anyone else tried this on blouses?

Will vinegar not damage the rubber parts in the washer? In the long run
@beverlyannsjoblom
@beverlyannsjoblom Жыл бұрын
The short answer is no! I live in a high end area so we have the best thrift stores. The problem with thrift clothing and linens is they smell like poisonous Gain detergent and I'm extremely allergic to toxic fragrances (all of us are but most people don't get a migraine from it like I do) I use half a gallon of vinegar (that I buy for cheap from Sam's Club) in my rinse cycle leaving it overnight. I do this about 2x a month. I have done this for MANY years with no problems to my washer.

@simpleeasycooking

That all comes down to the shampoo you use. I used the cheapest one i could find and i found it to work for me. Different cheap brands have different smells so simply pick one that works for you. Also you can leave it out all together if you like :)

Do it have to be white vinegar?
@brad4058
@brad4058 9 жыл бұрын
+frederica broadney If you don't want added colors to your clothes, then yes, the white/clear vinegar is the only thing you want to use. The acid in the vinegar is what breaks down the particles in your clothes so that they are easily washed off but the acid will not be strong enough to destroy your fabric.

I don't know about other washing machines, but in the center of mine there's a little hole where you put the fabric softener. If there's no specific place for it, you can just pour a little in with the detergent :)

@TheMrhycannon
@TheMrhycannon 9 жыл бұрын
Steelo144 The vinegar gets watered down anyway.. Adding water to it is redundant.. Fabric softener leaves a residue on fabrics.. Vinegar removes residue, even from soap.. The oil is just that, oil.. I wouldn't add any scent to my laundry.. There are too many scented products fighting each other as it is..

DON"T USE ESS OILS!!! Some have a very low flash point. My hairdresser's best friend and her three kids DIED after she put some towels that had been in her dryer, and which contained oil residues from hair treatments, into a bag to rest there until their next use. They combusted and she died in the housefire with her kids. DON"T DO IT!!!!! USE TINCTURES INSTEAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!
