In this video, I show how I make some homemade pressbrake dies.

I just did a large 4 way die with the plasma cut and stacking method after not being able to find what I needed for a reasonable price. I ran a weld bead along the inner edges of the V profiles and carefully ground it down which left a nice clean edge. It look a lot of time but it works great and saved me about $800.

Love your homemade dies, this is on my to do list now. FYI I found that if you use a thin plastic sheet like 10 mil between your part and the bottom die you can stop the bottom die from leave any marks on your part ( using factory made dies). Still I bet this would greatly help on your home made dies.

ToT has a video on some sort of toolsteel welding filler, you could build up the edges with that to make them last. And maybe get yourself a milling machine, then you can really clean them up nicely.

Those dies are awesome, is it possible to cap the die with solid material down both sides and weld it on? I've got a 40 ton 4 ' brake with 4 way die and that shiot is crazy exspensive, hell it was crazy money when I bought it 20 years ago. I run a 10 " 4 way die in my Edwards Iron worker tooling station and I think that die set is almost a couple grand these days. That 4' 4 way die is a mother fker to change out, gotta really be in love with your fingers when messing with that thing.

Yeah you could do that or cut the plates without the bottom tang.

You could probably have it cut out of AR500 or something to make them more wear resistant.

Hi, are you looking for a plasma table? I’ve got a 5x10 that also has the tube cutter option as well. Let me know. I can help you out as well.

I have a plasma table already. Thanks though!

Would it make sense for me to stack 12” length pieces of angle iron for a V die?
@ultra4suzukisamurai6796 ай бұрын
I’ve never used angle to make a die, my fear is that material spring back would keep you from hitting 90 degrees. This fear may be unfounded, again I haven’t tried.
