Just as a secondary option for bigger fire tinders get milkshake straws. Heavy wall and at least twice the diameter of the little soda straws. Or if you need a super sugar buzz to make all of these get the giant pixie sticks with the plastic tubes and slam that sugary goodness and ride that buzz to make a butt load of fire starters.

Jason and Alan (from On 3) have really revived Survival Dispatch for me. There's nothing more entertaining than 2 manly guys and a full tub of Vaseline doing survival crafts alone in the woods. 🧐 I'm sure there's a better way to say that but..... it escapes me. Their humor, skills and simple application are top notch. 🤣

Been making these for years. Waterproof and cheap. I use makeup pads and I add finely scraped fat wood and magnesium from a scraped Coleman fire starter. Pull open the makeup pad so it folds open like a book, smear vaseline and then sprinkle the fat wood/magnesium mix and fold closed again. Works a charm and extends the burn time by a fair bit.

I just made about 10 of them, dodn’t have any wide enough straws just really thin ones . So i used heat shrink tubes clear they work about the same .. tested a couple out in the cold wind and rain and wow they burn for a while a took a spark like big time .. I shoved a few in every one of my little EDC kits Wazzu survival belt knife sheath wallet.. Great emergency fire starter back up absolutely I prefer to use natural tinder but in bad weather these things are awesome

Good video. If you have a small piece of tin foil, you can cut the end of the straw and pull out a small piece of cotton through a hole in the foil and make a small candle, and it will burn a LONG time, but with a smaller candle or lighter type flame, but still it's fire, and you can blow it out and reuse it. Just make the straw a little longer and pack in a small piece of foil with the cotton ball. Keep up the great work.

Been using these for some time now. Plastic straws are becoming a rare item. Also, where available, these straws can come in a wider width making it easier to stuff even more cotton into them. May be labeled as "jumbo straws". Worth it to try for them. Thanks guys!

You can also get paper straws. It's used for candy. Also I would suggest a small nail or a "shishkabob stick" for the ramrod. Fill a long straw with lots of cotton balls, then cut off a piece for tinder. Or, just make many smallers pieces. BTW- The Vaseline isn't what burns, the liquid and vaporized petroleum is what really burns, just like a candle.

Thanks for the video. It's a whole other step, but I've seen people heat up the Vaseline and soak the cotton to get it saturated. It would have more burn time than just massaging it in. I've also seen a version using cotton rounds soaked in Vaseline and coated with paraffin. Not as easy to pack as this version but it works great.
