Home Secretary James Cleverly wasn't very cleverly when he attempted to respond to a question put to the Prime Minister about poverty. Alex Cunningham a Labour MP from Stockton North asked Rishi Sunak why 34% of children in his constituency were living in poverty. James Cleverly chimed in.

Because people keep voting for them,that’s why.People knew that Boris Johnson was unfit to be Prime Minister,but because of the hate towards Jeremy Corbyn,especially from the right wing media and Brexit,he was able to get voters from REDWALL areas in the North and get an 80 seat majority.It was like turkeys 🦃 voting for Christmas.Communities that would NEVER have voted for the Conservatives, especially after the Thatcher years, bought into the lies.And what Cleverly shouted out in Parliament is what so many Tories think and say amongst themselves in Conservative clubs and bars.So many of us knew what this lot were like, but too many also fell for the lies in 2019.

@Spectrum4e4 Firstly there is something you can do, put every effort you can into winning the next and subsequent elections to consign them to the political bin and secondly, calling somewhere a shithole is in no way acceptable, but it's hardly corrupt. Of course the fact that he lied about it is worse but it's no surprise and should be jumped on by the Speaker. However to call a minister a liar is like calling a cow bovine, it's just part of their DNA. I don't recall the last Labour government being honest with us either, think of Iraq for example, but at least they were more often trying to do the right thing rather than blatantly just screwing us over to line their pockets.

How the speaker couldn’t hear that is beyond me. I heard it I’m partially deaf. It echoed throughout the chamber. If I was that angry MP I would get the recording hand it into the speakers of the house show them and once mr not so Cleverley is at the dispatch box then the speaker must make him publicly apologise for that offensive comment. As that was beyond unacceptable especially from someone in one of the highest offices in the land.
@dougaltolan3017
@dougaltolan3017 8 ай бұрын
The speakers office has many staff, from what I read, one task of that office would be managing the recordings. I would guess that the MP for Stockton went to that office for a copy that he then checked. Another very important point is that we only get the final, mix down of a multi-track recording. As well as the microphone at the dispatch box, I'd lay money that there is an overhead one for the front bench.
