For a studio desk two things to consider, if you are going to change out gear a lot you’ll need good accessibility. If your setup isn’t changing that much you can build your own custom desk, it’s cheaper and you can integrate everything to taste. I made myself a desk exactly to my liking and it costed me less than 500 bucks. I built it in three months, everyday half an hour of work and you’ll end up with something unique. If I were to buy a desk there are many things I don’t like or would want different and the ones I do like are freaking expensive. So if you like to do it yourself it’s totally worth it 😊
@mixdownonlineАй бұрын
I thought of that option, but time is an issue for me, and the fact that I'm not a good handyman, so I would need to rely on friends to help me out :-) But it still a posibility!

Thank you for sharing this quantity of informations ! I have several questions : 1) In the past you used a PC, and a lot of component was selected to make the computer as silent as possible. Is the Macbook M1 Pro as quiet as your older computer ? 2) Is the processor of the Mac M1 powerful enough for big production sessions? With a lot of plugins, and bus processings. 3) Where do you store your library content for VSTi ? In the same SSD than where your sessions are stored ? So you just have to bring with you one SSD when you work outside your studio ?
@mixdownonlineАй бұрын
1. This Macbook Pro M1 Max is still very quiet after 2 years of usage. I will hear the fans only when I export a Video out of Adobe Premier, but when I'm mixing in Cubase...QUIET :-) 2. Yes it is! Never had a problem so far! 3. My projects on one drive, and all may samples and VSTi content on another drive.

It's impressive how many years it takes to put together all that equipment. Regarding the monitors, what if you switched them? For instance, using the 27-inch Samsung for Cubase and the 24-inch BenQ for the mixer. I believe it might be better to have one positioned above the other, (like sit in a mix - lol) anyway i use those monitors and the BenQ is the best. Keep on the good work!

Nice setup Chris, how important do you think the outboard gear is? Basically could you use your DAW without them?
@mixdownonlineАй бұрын
Glad you like my setup! Yes, I can use my DAW without outboard gear, but this gear gives me better tone when recording than recording straight in, so a bit less work to do while mixing. There's not right or wrong answer when it comes to this, it's a personal choice. I believe that gear or fancy plugins are good tools but are worth nothing if you don't know how to use them to make them sound good. And they will not make a bad song sound good either ;-)

Here's a strategy for getting Glenn's watch count up,,, Tell your Followers/Subs to just open a new browser window, cue up all Glenn's playlists on KZbin, turn the volume off (probably), and just let them run all day in the background, mimimized to the Taskbar. Just don’t use any dsp while tracking, it isn’t recorded so why bother, bypass is your best friend 😊

Question: Besides being a fader controller, do you think the Console 1 fader brings new functionality to the Console 1 system? Can this C1 Fader bring more and better things/features to Console 1 MKII, than for example an avid Artist Control? I am asking as I own the Console 1 MKIII...and use Pro Tools
@mixdownonlineАй бұрын
It also controls sends levels, and panning, but for me, the Fader control plays a huge role. If accessing faders for several channels at the same is not important for you, then It won't add much to the C1

Fascinating to see how things change. Just one question. You've switched from the Presonus Faderport to the Softube Fader mk3. I saw your vid on this (and Dom's) and it looks very exciting for the integration with Cubase. I could see this complimenting my CC121 if I ditched my current Mackie based Icon Qcon setup. But you hinted at some potential shortfalls. Care to elaborate?
@mixdownonlineАй бұрын
For me, I'm used to having a Transport on the Presonus, and there's not on the C1, it's no big deal since I made on one my Monogram CC, but I still think it would be nice to have one on the C1

Good morning, First of all, thank you for the excellence of your content. Really a colossal job to provide us with videos of such quality and immense help. I saw that you are on Mac. I'm hesitant to get a Mac too. I was thinking about a Mac Mini Pro M4. Apple M4 Pro chip with 14-core CPU, 20-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine 64 GB of unified memory 1TB SSD storage As there are not enough Thunderbolt and USB ports on the Mac Mini Pro M4, what Thunderbolt and USB hub could you recommend and which external SSD models (capacity 2 TB and 4 TB). Use for electronic music composition (trance and trance uplifting) and also use for making orchestral music (complement to enrich my electronic music compositions). I will have very large sessions, many tracks (only vst and plugins, only software). Maximum 200 tracks. Using Cubase Pro 14 (main daw) and from time to time Ableton live Suite12. What do you think of this Mac configuration? Thank you in advance for your response and opinion.

It's obvious your studio is mainly used for KZbin video productions. So, there is no real need for acoustic treatment. No cloud, old panels at back propped up against the wall, new panels too low to be fully effective. So you pretty much talk the talk without walking in our shoes. Spruiking, shilling, selling.. call it what you want, is all you really do, Chris. It appears we don't have much in common. What a shame. So I'm bailing out here. Good luck with it all.
