Thanks for making these vids good sir! I am an old Tascam tape, then Roland VS-880 multi-tracker. Bought a Zoom R8 and realized that I need to figure out this DAW stuff even though I know it is going to be a long road. Going with reaper and Superior Drummer 2.0 to start out... "This is some singing just to show you how to record." Reminded me of They Might Be Giants...lol

i am amazed the way you explain aspects so clearly and so simply , i just started using reaper , but when i record anything my voice sounds with a lot of disturbance when reaper is closed soothing sound comes pl help.
@HomebrewAudioRecording4 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I don't understand your question though. What do you mean by "disturbance?" And "soothing sound comes?"

You mentioned clicking the "IN" button to turn it green if you cannot hear your instrument. I clicked it but it showed a drop down menu of different record options rather than turning green. Any idea why?
@HomebrewAudioRecording8 жыл бұрын
Yes I do! I just checked and it appears that the new version of Reaper has a different icon for Record Monitoring, which is what you want. Forget about were it says "IN." Look instead for the icon next to that on the right, which will look like a little speaker. If you hover your mouse over that, you'll see that it says "Record Monitoring:Off." THAT is what you want. Click it once and it will change to Record Monitoring: On." Sorry for that confusion. I hope that helps.

I followed these steps exactly, and the second track is not in time sync with the first track. I have verified that I'm using the correct driver, and have tried various suggestions given to me by people on the Reaper Forum. Nothing seems to solve this basic problem with the Reaper software. Do you have any suggestions on how to solve this issue or where I might try to get more help?

Hi Ron. I sent you a reply via email.

I am trying to achieve the same thing. But in mine, Track 1 is a media file (MP3), and track 2 is vocals. I also use a headset. However, the sound on the MP3 spills over during recording. What did I do that is wrong? Thanks!
@HomebrewAudioRecording9 жыл бұрын
+Toto Gamboa That can happen for a number of reasons. The most common way is that the interface used is not separating the channels. If you use a standard mixer for you mic input, that will happen (unless you REALLY REALLY know how to tailor the routing, etc). The other way it sometimes happens is that folks leave the speakers on when recording the vocal track, and the music gets picked up by the mic. My money is on the first thing. What kind of interface are you using?
@totogamboa9 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I think I got it already. There is a switch in my mixer "To ST" that i don't pay attention to. It is ok now :)

You're a great teacher. So you didn't have to send the vocal track to another track for the reverb?
@HomebrewAudioRecording8 жыл бұрын
Thanks Paul! No I didn't. I rarely do anything like that nowadays since it's so easy to just to add the effect directly to the track. It's kind of like what using an effect "insert" would have been in the old days with analog mixers. But doing it like this is like have an infinite number of reverb units available to you, each with their own settings:). It's mind-blowing if you're just coming to digital recording from doing it the old-fashioned way:).
