Great work as always Jeff! I love the fact that you are doing this PROPERLY - taking your time & being extra fussy! The finished car will be exceptional, i'm sure!! Tiger.

Keep the faith mate, you will do it. Better to get it right first time if you can. In this sort of thing there are no shortcuts. Remember even if it looks flawless to everyone else you will always be drawn to points you believe are less than spot on by virtue of you 'knowing' they're there. Now if you could just finish that other car you were working on a while back... 😉

Gday Jeff small suggestio😊 With your swag lines you could try a old trick 😊 Simply put putty on with a scrap piece of steel that is a couple of hundred mm' s long with a crisp guiotine edge. Run filler along edge hevy enough that you can wipe on enough in one go to raise swag line past where wanted and then sand back after set up 😊 Try it works a treat against a tape line. Just don't forget to remove take before fully cured. Some times a stanley knife is helpful to separate tape from filler. 😊 Have a great week and 2 thumbs up Jeff looming good so far😊

I believe you mentioned triple webers for the future, skipp them and save your money. My friend who got me into z cars (have had 9) had a beautiful z with them along with headers and exhaust. I took him in every drag race with my 240 having only tweaked the stock carbs. When I bought a car with triple webers it was truly a pain in the ass. You will know the quality of gas from every gas station. Dirty gas and the rpm's start floating and your idle will jump up. Tuning it, good luck finding someone who will tune, what amounts to 6 carbs. I learned to do it myself since no race shop within 500 miles of my would touch it, much less non race shops. The Z club flat out refused to touch it. Which is probably good since my 280zx turbo came out of thier shop a lot slower then it went in for a tune up.

I have already got them, although they are OER's to be accurate. I have zero idea about carbies so I thought triples would be the easiest place to start learning ;)

It is slow tedious work Jeff, but in a way it needs to be done slowly but surely to be done correctly. Go over it a few times and constantly checking over the work. All the prep for paint is what makes the paint look so good. Sloppy panel work can always be picked up. You should see what I'm working with at the moment, what some pro's have done to these doors, shocking!

Hi Jeff, try a mechanic's glove or plain old leather gardening glove on your torch hand- heaps better than the clunky welding gloves. also better than skin cancer.

Looking at those wheels which I had on my 260 2+2; are you going to use them? Do you have the nice large plastic Z caps for the centre of the wheels?

No, I am still looking at wheels, but those ones won't fill out the guards.

If you are drilling out the holes in the hinges then the body is not right. Correct?

it's a datsun from the 70's what do you expect? he's doing it right to line the panels up correctly, these older cars did not come from the factory with great panel gaps or fitment in many areas, most old cars are like this, finding an old car with perfect panels is very rare
@BRETTYZCAR
@BRETTYZCAR 6 жыл бұрын
EB240 ahh yeah I know it’s a 70s Datsun and its home built by Jeff but how can you agree that elongating every hole on the car to make it line up is ok? At no time has the chassis been drop tested and measured for alignment according to the FSM so any *adjustments* he is making by using this method are incorrect. Have the hinges been rebuilt with new bushes/ pins which when worn can alter alignment drastically??? Mate I’m not trying to be a hater, I’m just saying they didn’t have 12mm holes for 8mm bolts. Correct?

The issue I am dealing with is that there is not one straight panel on the car. I have no idea how many people over it's 47 year life have messed with it. The main thing really is that the doors were bad, and with all the repairs it is a matter of making what I am left with work. It would be so nice to just bolt on all new factory panels, then the whole build would be a breeze.
