@@Sinisterg60 quite a different machine though, the YOU is more of an all rounder, as I've heard the Decent is not really for steaming milk etc. I wanna try a Decent more though, only played with a friends and haven't had one at home to use.

I own a Sanremo YOU. Incredible machine. Unprecedented flexibility to parameterize shots (except Decent, but less complex). Lets you discover your beans newly (I am a home roaster of medium - light beans). I think the steam boiler pressure is just getting used to. I have been able to create my best ever milk foam on this machine.

Hi Christopher, Charlie - this is a machine I’ve been eyeing. Do you know what the potential of the touch screen is in the sense of whether SR have/are going to update the software to make it longer lasting like how the Decent is made allowing for constant updates. Does it also connect to a Bluetooth scale and stops itself at the target weight?
@christopherschmitz1804
@christopherschmitz1804 Жыл бұрын
@@the_viper_leo From my POV this is a computer (probably an embedded specific chip) behind the touch screen, controlling all of the functions that are available like extraction pressure (through gear pump), touch screen, temps for group head and boilers, enablement of valves etc. There will be a limit to what you can do in SW due to the processing power of the embedded chip, but Sanremo possibly could make this a Decent like machine with a more traditional DB concept instead of mixing pumps and thermoblocks. A Testla for coffee machines. You can export and import profiles through the built-in USB port. There is no reason why you could not do this online once the app is enabled. And of course you could add additional screens ... I am collecting ideas for functional improvements (eg. new screens, semi-automatic flow mode etc.) from different forums I am active in and will forward to Sanremo once the collection becomes stable and reaches backing from other owners. I can not tell you whether there is bluetooth functionality built-in. The machine does not show up on a bluetooth scan, although you can connect through the Sanremo Connector app to its WiFi module (but without additional functionality: my contact at Sanremo told me it would be enabled in Mai 2023). But even if it was not built in you could add it through a bluetooth device plugged into the USB port. Or use the app to connect to bluetooth devices via your mobile phone. The million dollar question is: how much is Sanremo willing to invest into building a community around the YOU and potential follow-on models. They could become a serious contender do Decent, Faemina and VBM domobar super electronic if they do nurture the community with additional features and upgrades. I am willing to invest some of my time (and I am sure others will do as well), let us see how seriously Sanremo takes this.

@christopherschmitz1804

Funny, this (and the much more advanced UI with a lot of manual lever profiles that can be saved) were reasons for me not to choose the R9 One. I like the R9 One, its sturdyness and the quality of coffee it produces. May be a European (pricing of energy) issue, but I think 1.9 l brew and 3.9 l steam boilers are not fitting today's environmental concerns. Heating up times are so much better with the smaller (0.5l brew and 1l steam) boilers. 5:30 minutes until both boilers are fully heated and the group head is hot. And re-heating after a 3 hour switch off to full temps is 2:30 minutes. I had a Carimali UNO Gastro machine for the past 21 years, equipped with a 3,5l boiler. I would never go back. Energy consumption with the YOU vs. the UNO is down by 50%, despite the strong heating elements and the separate electric heating of the group head (this is of course depending on your usage profile).

@@revolutiondance1141 Had it for about a month and its fantastic. I am coming from an ECM Synchronika, so there was a bit of an adjustment in terms of the workflow, but i am getting used to it. Overall shot quality is much better because of the consistency at the group head as well as the temperature. Steam pressure is greatly increased so I had adjust my technique with the milk.

As other comments suggested, it really looks like the Decent would be a better choice, even though it doesn't look nearly as stylish (I wouldn't mind, although neither is in my price range). Speaking of the looks, the hollow space in the back suggests that the entire machine could be more compact... It's a design choice I guess. On the YOU, did you find the touchscreen convenient? I'd expect that wet fingers (e.g. from taking a milk carton from the fridge) can give poor results. But that may be a non-issue if you can mostly operate the machine with the knobs and the paddle. Anyway, at this point, given that I don't buy lottery tickets, I think my Lelit Victoria is pretty much my endgame machine. A different league!

I get great pressure profiling and comparable results with the Cafelat Robot. Less than a tenth of the price, no heatup times/descaling/servicing/noise/use of counter space. If I was going for a machine, I don't know why one would choose a 'You' over a LaMarzocco Mini or Micra 🤔 or if you're after profiling, a Decent DE1 or a Lelit Bianca

Nice machine and indeed the future of pulling shots, being able to control every aspect. Being a recent Decent owner, I know the Sanremo UI is not great; too many screens to set, and where is the shot visual output? Does it upload the results anywhere? Assuming you can connect via a Bluetooth scale and stop at the desired weight. There is a massive advantage to using a tablet or bigger screen and a good UI. Good attempt by Sanremo, but it's pricey and needs improvement. I understand adjusting the steam rate; the Decent is by flow rate and had to go from 2.2ml to 1.9ml ;-).

I have my endgame machine, ECM Classika II PID with flow control plus a blind shaker and a happy tamper, that's it, everything else has been sold or tossed aside from the grinder obvs. 45-55 seconds is my sweet spot pulling a lazy boy on my E61. Build is solid and Sanremo is a big and well known company. I can't attest to the longevity of this machine though. It's more feature rich than a GS3, but LM machines are built like tanks (that also need maintenance). Honestly I can't think of an espresso machine that doesn't need consistent maintenance to last a long time.

Thanks for taking the time to produce this review. I’m debating between the YOU and a La Marzocco GS/3 MP. I appreciate that this is much less wasteful than the GS/3’s conical valve, which constantly pumps at 9 bars of pressure and routes any unnecessary water into the drip tray (for example, if attempting 3 bars of pressure at the group, the remaining 6 bars of water will be channeled as waste into the drip tray during the shot). But they both seem like excellent machines. The biggest risks on the YOU, as others have pointed out, will be ongoing software and community support and potential resale value. Having a computer as a key component on the machine will clearly date the machine after several years, unlike the GS/3 MP which will be fairly timeless as a mostly mechanical machine. Tough choice!!!!
@homecafecharlie
@homecafecharlie Жыл бұрын
I don't think it's worth worrying about water waste with espresso machines. They are all very similar. The main thing is how will it feel like to use, and what do you want to get out of one that you might not be able to get out of the other. Both great machines!

'Endgame' varies in many ways though as I personally won't tolerate a machine having so much interface to get in the way. Like some machines requiring the use of apps just to make brew temp changes. That's a bit ridiculous and has no real world guarantee with longevity & reliability. I will say it's hilarious to watch all the modern fads that are still trying to catch up with what the manual lever has been doing for going on a century now. Technology will never surpass some things in life that simply work.
