Foxgloves are one of my favourite native species of wildflowers and I encourage them to grow and spread as much as possible on my allotment because they are also a favourite of the bees. In this mini episode I'll chat about why they're great to grow and show you a few different ways to save the seed and why it's important to sow now for next year's blooms.

Katrina, since discovering your channel about two years ago I've noticed your videos become better and better. I mildly chastised you back then when you made a comment about your voice. I think you encountered what we all find when we here our voice recorded for the first time. I not only enjoy your videos for the gardening hints but you are such a pleasure to listen to - a clear confident voice and a lovely smile - keep up the good work!

Here in hot and humid East Tenn, USA, the Foxies grow really well in partial shade and SHADE. I sprinkle the seed in an outside open nursery bed in late summer and they grow into little plants all winter long; ready to be planted in any of the garden beds in the spring.

Foxgloves are bi-annual because they grow across 2 years, germinate at the end of summer, grow in autumn, hibernate through winter, grow again in spring and flower in full throughout summer... They don't have a 2 years (730 day cycle).... Thanks for the explanation❤

Thank you Miss. It is a lovely video and answered my curiosity about whether hybrid varieties produce seeds. Also I was reassured to hear you say that the seed can be simply scattered. I have been doing that in the hope that they would grow for the benefit of bees, but then fretted that I should have made more effort! Nature seems to be more successful than me at growing things sometimes! Time will tell but, given the amount of seeds I scattered, I imagine at least one will germinate!

I love the 'wild and free' foxglove beauties that I get growing in my garden every year. I have never tried collecting the seed, I have just got good at identifying different seedlings, leave enough foxgloves seedlings to develop and then transplant them to where I want them. I suppose collecting and sowing the seed might save on the weeding somewhat. Love your channel, so lovely to feel the enthusiasm you have for the space you create and produce you grow, thank you.

In my garden here in the Netherlands I have had foxgloves for the last couple of years. I think I've introduced them by sowing once directly in summer and now every year I see some coming up. This year there were only white ones, the years before mostly pink ones. Love the apricot by the way! They may have cross pollinated with your other ones, excited to see what nature makes of that mix! Gr. Debbie

Ok you had me laughing at the sword fight with the foxgloves, perfect music too. Hello from Canada, new subscriber and I have a question. If the seeds do not come back to the original colour (pink ones shown) then how do you get true pink ones? I just love the soft pinks and apricots. Camelot Cream is one of my favourites as it was non stop blooming here in zone 6 until snow fell. I was so surprised it kept coming up with more stalks, I let it do it's thing. I did this shake, self seeding method and I literally have hundreds of tiny plants right now under the snow. I can see them when it melts. Can I move them once all risk of frost is gone? I would love to have them everywhere. I also noticed you said not to touch them but then you didn't wear gloves. I use latex gloves when handling or pruning them because it is hard to handle with gardening gloves. Happy Gardening :)

I have foxglove here in Michigan. One thing to note is that they don't flower the first year (up here) they are green plants on the ground, they stay green through our harsh winters. The foxglove is also known as a poisonous species of flowering plant in the plantain family Plantaginaceae. It is toxic to the heart.

My seeds have now germinated and I’ll be pricking them out and potting into individual pots when they have they their 2nd pair of leaves (the first true leaves). I’ll plant them out probably around October time once they’re a bit bigger, more of a plug plant and able to withstand any damage from slugs, but they shouldn’t really be an issue!
