One trap to be wary of is the change in humidity that comes with summer going to winter. When you use your indoor heating, that decreases humidity a lot and your soil will dry out faster. While when it becomes summer it will remain wet for longer when you don't heat the house and leave windows open more.
@lisawagner60765 ай бұрын
I absolutely love your Ficus Benjamina!! They are awesome plants and respond well to directional pruning. You can somewhat control how your plant will grow. It's actually called "clip and grow", and it is used in the bonsai community to get plants to grow how they want them. When ever you clip a branch right after a leaf, a new branch will grow in the direction of that last leaf. so you can ideally get your Benjamina to grow a little more round and not so flat by clipping a branch with a leaf pointing the direction you want a branch to grow. I have really gotten into bonsai this summer and I am really loving it. But try it and see if it will round out a bit for you.

I have a suggestion for thse who don't use climbing poles. My climbing plants are supported by my large windows, which are south facing in a cloudy climate,. when theyre next to a wall I use 3MCommand Hooks, which stick firmly to the wall and support even heavy branches tied on with plant tape. Later, it can be removed easily without any wall damage.
@NN-fz4pd4 ай бұрын
How are the hook set up with the plants? I imagine if you put the hooks on the wall then the plant would have to be hooked onto each one by going up in a zigzag pattern is that correct?

Cracks me up the fungus knat problems. I had a problem with it at the beginning until I stopped overwatering my plants. Sure you get a few here and there. I use a Zevo Plug in Blue light trap and usually makes quick work of them. I find that if you stop being OCD about the plants and forget to water them sometimes, fungus knats disappear.

Richard try it! I didn't cut the orchard stem down and now there's a new plant. And you should see the roots!. It's so amazing!❤🤗
@jackrice27705 ай бұрын
Why pruning makes your plant produce side growth: Plants produce two hormones, one that's at the end of the stem, another that's in the side buds. When you remove the growing tip, this decreases the amount of the 'long' hormone, thus there's more of the 'side shoot' hormone and the side shoots spring out. After a bit, the ends of those side shoots are producing the 'long' hormone thus each of the branches gets longer. So, when you're pruning, you're essentially modifying the hormone balance of the plant to get what you want. Now you know.

It just grows and has the little flowers (purple) on it. I can just lay a piece on some good dirt (that is slightly moist and it grows. I started my new ones from the long pieces hanging over the side. I live in a small cottage (really small 8x12) and I want plants - it has a high ceiling (which is covered right now so I can keep it cooler) and a couple 2x4s across the ceiling area to hang plants from - I will have lots of shelves too once I get walls covered. I have several coleus outside - they are doing pretty good. The ones that will tolerate sun. I only have 2 windows on West side. And a door. So will need lots of grow lights. I have an autumn fern - I need to figure how to keep it growing.

Thanks Rich I’ve learned a lot from you- I was wondering, here in the US we don’t have some of the same products, can you tell us what each one has in it, as far as NPK ratio, so I may find something similar here? Thanks a bunch!

What do you think about neem oil as prevention for infestation??
@SheffieldMadePlants5 ай бұрын
Works well depending on what the bug is
@laurachristianson16885 ай бұрын
Need oil is good for soft body insects….spider mites, white fly etc, and some fungus problems. Doesn’t work for Japanese beetles and other crunchy bugs, dish soap works better for that.

What about when the moisture meter reads differently in different areas of the pot?
@SheffieldMadePlants5 ай бұрын
That would be weird. Go with the highest reading maybe
