I planted a whole bunch of 'stuff' before my daughter's wedding but just before the day, a herd of deer went through at night and mowed it ALL down. Fun. Your plan and planting look wonderful and I just know you will have a gorgeous wedding day. Maybe the robin will agree to sit on your bouquet as you walk down the aisle if you agree to supply him with worms.

Oh no! Did you have a backup plan? I am planning a new flower garden for my wedding this year and my fiance insisted on fencing it in because he's afraid of anything like that happening 😨
@iartistdotme Жыл бұрын
@@evelynsoha7178 We visited the florist, LOL - sunflowers are an easy to find flower and lucky she had planned on all the brides-maids having slightly different bouquets and it turned out just beautiful. I know yours will also. But prepare for a few steps backward - such is life. Enjoy your day regardless and it will be a beautiful memory.

Super episode many thanks. Huge congratulations on breaking 100k subscribers. Nice to see you are channeling your inner Aussie, planting eucalypts and pittosporums. Interesting to hear how you pronounce pittosporum (pitto-sporum) people here (at least in SA) generally pronounce the name PITtos-PORum. Etymology suggests your pronunciation is most correct 👍🏻. Given the weather they endure here I don’t think you’ll have any problems with them in summer. They both can grow like billy-oh (especially in soil like that) so they’ll fill that space up quicksmart. The pittosporum will put out three new shoots for every stem you clip - so they will get bushy when you take cuttings. If you want them to grow with a more of a tree like habit you could just trim a whole branch off the main stem at the base. Eucalyptus can rot from the inside out in boggy conditions - but they can suck up vast amounts of water and dry out the ground around them for quite a distance. Because they are so vigorous and water loving, I had a problem with them throwing out roots into a new three-bay compost heap I made. We have to water our compost here and the tree found the moisture in no time - after 4 months I basically had a metre cube of gum tree roots and dust in each compost bay. I had to dig them out and put a concrete floor in each bay - which is not ideal. Totally jealous of your black soil. I wish mine looked like that rather than red brick dust ☺️. You’ve inspired me to look into ferns for a strip of ground along-side my house that gets very little sun - thanks !

Lovely shrub choices Kat, I have been thinking where I can add some Pittosporum as a structure shrub in my garden and those varieties are beautiful. I love Eucalyptus and planted one along the edge of our small garden in our maisonette when I was first married (30 blah blah years ago 😮). We kept on top of it while we lived there as I did a bit of flower arranging and it is a beautiful choice for foliage. We moved away eventually but used to drive past the old place on a regularly basis and the new owner let it get away from him and I could always see the full grown tree towering above the roof line of the block 😱. Weirdly I planted it in a scrappy bed on the edge of the garden that was full of builders rubble and not much soil, as I read that they can cope with poor dry conditions as they would in their native Australia. It clearly thrived there over the years. It was huge! I think a subsequent owner had it removed, as one day we drove past and could no longer see its silvery foliage above the roof. Probably a good thing to do to be honest. I learned my lesson with right place, right shrub though 😂😂

The border looks great already 👍🏼 I had this idea as well and I was getting many shrubs on sale and tried them out. One of my favorites is "Ceanothus impressus Victoria" (also called californian lilac) an evergreen with blue flowers it blooming here from May until November and is really beautiful. In your area it should grow even better. Another shrub I planted was amber jubilee with interesting flowers and foliage. The shrubs with dark red foliage you have already. I bet it will look nice with the eucalyptus and the variegated leaves from the other shrubs you've planted.

Totally agree with you on the Diabolo. Stunning shrub, I planted one in my garden about 20 years ago and it's still going strong. Although it's considerably taller than 6 ft, in fact I guess its closer to 12. When you leave it to do its own thing the stems form fabulous bark on top of the flowers and leave colour. If you manage to find a supplier I'd love to know please as I've been trying to source one for my sister.

Mattocks are the job. I'm 6.2", so I only wish they had a slightly longer haft. But for shifting brambles, shrubs, or small trees. They are definitely a go to. A lot of people go a bit ott with tools like that. By that I mean men trying to be all manly or some nonsense 99% of the time. But you really should just take your time and let the weight of the mattock do the work. There's little point in doing the job a few minutes faster, if you're laid up with a bad back for a few days after it.
