Cleavers! 🌿 Another wild edible plant that's classified as a weed! this bright green sticky plant isn't just edible its a highly nutritious medicinal herb that grows all around us abundantly. Known by many nicknames Goosegrass, bedstraw, sticky willy to name a few it's scientific name is "Galium aparine" & it's actually related to coffee ☕
You can eat the plant fresh or use it in salads, stews & soups or make refreshing spring tonics & teas. If you roast the seeds of cleavers it makes a free delicious cleavers coffee alternative. You can even use the roots to make a permanent red dye thats so strong it can dye the bones red of birds that consume it. 🐦
The cleaver has been used since ancient times in traditional herbal medicine & it's still used today in the modern world.
During WWII children in Britain were paid to harvest cleavers (as well as other medicinal herbs.) It was used by pharmaceutical companies to make medicine to combat infections throughout the war.
It's the ultimate springtime herb that's been found to improve the health of the lymphatic system. It helps to reduce swelling & inflammation by clearing excess waste & water from the body it's also a diuretic all this combined makes cleavers a great way to help flush out all those unwanted toxins that build up in our bodies throughout winter giving our health & immune system a good spring clean.
In Folklore they believed that drinking cleaver made you beautiful & that the cleaver symbolises "connection" all in all cleavers is a fun edible plant that gives us not only food & medicine but joy too because sticking cleaver to your unsuspecting friends back will forever be funny ✌️😁

Cleavers is also the plant responsible for Velcro. A scientist studied cleavers and worked out the nylon hooks would stick to fuzzy nylon fibres. Thus Velcro owes its existence to Cleavers ~ Sticky Weed. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻

I want to invite him over for dinner tonight. Seriously. Please …can I have an army bring you here. Usher u in next to my husband and I. Amazing! I’ve been looking for this herb and only found it in a few places. Washington state where it’s humid and upper Ca area. Now I’m growing it because it just isn’t that abundant. Isn’t it telling that the Nazis put this herb on the list of noxious weeds! Lol😂ya..that’s how the devil works. His only gift left, deception. Too bad though bcz now the curse is shattered & we r saved ..and also Gods herbs are free to heal all

@@daniellea271 my recipe: dig up your dandelions, scrub the roots and roughly chop the big tap root into chunks. Take off the little hairlike roots, they burn. Roast in a hot oven for about half an hour till they're dark brown. To make the coffee, I give the roots a quick smash in a mortar and pestle, put about 2 spoonfuls in a saucepan with a Mug and a half of water, and boil for around 15 mins. Should leave you with a mugful of coffee. Strain it!

Yesterday I went foraging for wild greens for the first time. I found some fresh cleavers and dandelion. But something weird happened. Basically on my way to the patch, birds would be scared and run into the bushes next to the path, as usual. But after I had foraging, the birds along the path ignored me, as if they suddenly trusted me. Weird!

The problem is they spread unchecked in the wild and smother out native plants. Now if they were worth money, people would yank them out of the ground so fast your head would spin. Nature can't win with us.

Oh my goodness! I had these in my garden and I pulled them. They are rampant now close by. I'm new to wild edibles so I'm still breaking in. Good to know about the lymphatic system. I'll keep that in mind. What if you mix it with dandelion roots for a coffee?

I absolutely love cleavers because they are so abundant and as you say are just fun to play around with! It’s also an Ingredient of my spring “weed”- soup as you can see in my first video 😉 Love your vibe and I would love to come to whales someday and connect for real with you and your gorgeous family. 🌻🌻🌻
