Living in an RV is not homeless. Home does not have to be bricks and sticks. From Webster's 1828 Dictionary: Home: A dwelling house; a house OR PLACE in which on resides. Oxford Dictionary 2024: the place where one lives permanently, especially as a member of a family or household. My wife and I are retired and living off a meager SS income in a 25yr old motorhome, but we don't consider ourselves homeless. We are however property tax less. When the local government raised our Louisiana property taxes 1,000%, we lost our family home. There're not many people that can afford an onerous 1000% property tax increase. Remember the WEF's stated goal, "You will own nothing and be happy." Well, they got 1/2 of it right. I used to stay in the desert for the winter near Quartzite, AZ. They used to let you camp in the desert all winter for $180, which was a pretty good deal. Next year the BLM wants to raise it to $600! Many won't be able to afford the increase and will go elsewhere, perhaps clogging up city streets, reducing property values. I hope the people whose houses we are forced to park in front of complain to the BLM, so maybe they will relent. We all realize that things go up, but if they went from $180 to a more reasonable $200 no one would complain. Then they could go up a little more the following year, but a 333% increase in poor people's housing cost all at once is unconscionable.

These policies of persecuting people living in their vehicles is completely wrong headed. The economy is so bad that many people are being forced out of their homes and apartments and have to live somewhere else. Then it is either live in a tent, not really doable in cold climates, or either live in your vehicle or be homeless out on the streets. The government does not really provide enough shelters. Going after people who live in their vehicles or on public property is despicable. They have nowhere else to go. This should be a national scandal. The same governments that created very hard economic times that caused people to have to live in their vehicles or tents now wants to cover up the symptoms of their crazy policies and persecute the poorest people in society.

It's called MAID, and is pushed extremely hard on people who don't have addictions or mental health; people who are widows, divorced, seniors, disabled, waiting for hip or knee replacement surgery, waiting for cancer surgery / treatment, in debt, poor, homeless, and more. In Alberta, canada every government worker and "helping" agency pushes MAID. Even pastors, entire denominations, physical therapists, nurses, nurse practitioners, doctors, pharmacists, housing groups push MAID hard. The crime minister has said publicly if poor people don't like their life, "die". Especially since 20 20, a lot of people have found themselves without rental or renewed mortgage, without a job, with dead family members, friends, family friends, and we have no options other than freeze to death outside or in our car, or MAID. We are the carbon the scavs (scavengers) want to reduce. Carbon based life forms. * They're not "elites", and predators go after worthy prey, not after the vulnerable, weak, helpless, old, young.

There's a lot of affordable land in Texas where there's no restrictions. I own ten acres only ten miles away from the city. You can dry camp but many people are getting creative with solar panels and water wells, propane tanks and generators. You can buy an acre for $6k here. Come on down and bring more campers with you. The only way to fight billionaire investors and greedy government is to live on unrestricted land outside the city limits.

But, since then I have with a group of friends have helped many women and kids to start new lives. We have all started with a camper even in winter. I have always wondered if they could turn abandoned shopping malls into Homeless shelters and places for RV parks. Of course it would take tons of money, and it would have to be run my someone, but I say put the homeless to work running and operating these subsidized former shopping mall shelters, perhaps referring to them as Shelter & RV Malls or Plazas. Nothing worth doing is easy or cheap. I would support this but I do agree, it cannot turn into a dump. The people living there would have to self police their property and keep it clean, etc. I realize this may be crazy to some, but he asked for idea about what can be done and I've always thought that those great big empty shopping malls and plazas should be repurposed.

One thing I've noticed with homeless in general, and in these videos, which no one seems to want to address, is the lack of respect for public property, and the hoarding that seems endemic in the homeless community. Anywhere they camp out is soon overrun with garbage, junk, and hazardous living conditions. I think retailers like Walmart, who have started banning overnight parking even for legitimate travellers, have been more than tolerant of extended stay RV's to a point, but these homeless encampments should not be confused with the responsible RV owner seeking a safe place to park overnight, or at most a day or two. Unfortunately these irresponsible individuals camping on public, and private property with no regard for others, will soon make it impossible to camp overnight for all of us. They simply give us a bad name. While some of these homeless individuals are responsible, the sad fact is most are not capable of taking control of their own lives, never mind keeping their encampments in some state of safety and cleanliness. I am seriously considering getting out of the RV community, as these individuals are ruining it for everyone with their behavior. These people are not RV'rs, simply using decrepit, non-functional, and unsafe RV's as shelter. While property owners have been more than accommodating with RV's one can understand why they are closing off access due to the piles of garbage and large groups occupying their property for extended periods of time, using Walmart as an example, the free overnight hosting was intended for RV's travelling, not as a permanent trailer park.

It should be noted that RVs parked along the curb and never moved usually don’t work and have been donated to somebody who is homeless just so they’re not sleeping on the ground. There’s a big difference between people who choose to lead a nomadic life and those who are homeless because they have nowhere to go and no money. All people that live in an RV or travel in an RV should not be clumped into the same Category as homeless. Homeless laws should not apply to the nomadic life whether people travel on weekends or full time.
@swankie_wheelsАй бұрын
You are 100% correct. In 15 years of being houseless, I have never left a spec of trust anywhere, have kayaked all 50 states, and got recruited to be in a movie about nomads, which also included nomad friends I had known for 15 years. Most of us are educated, clean, keep clean campsites, help others and clean up trash left by others. I resent being lumped in with the trashy dirty folk, which is all some people see. And when I began my only income was $900 a month Social Security! And I do no, drugs, smoke or alcohol.

I will be houseless but not homeless. I will contribute to local economies by buying needs and services as required. I will be fully self-contained, so I will leave only footprints and take only memories (and probably a ton of pictures and video lol). I will save a ton of money. Society is changing. People cannot even afford rent now, let alone a mortgage and other homeownership costs. But it feels like the money-people, backed by local and other authorities, want to force people to conform - and live like factory chickens in cages-disguised-as-residences. I worked in the RV industry in the 70s and have mixed feelings about RVs. I feel that camping should be a right! But on the end of this, driving an RV needs to be better controlled. I'm retired and restore antique farm tractors. I gave up my CDL license in 2008 because I couldn't pass the medical anymore. Now if I buy a larger tractor, I have to pay somebody else to haul it because I don't have a CDL! But an 80 year old that has never driven anything bigger than a half ton pickup can buy a 40ft RV and hook up to a 35ft boat and is required to take any kind training or testing! I think this needs to change!

In cities all over the USA, tiny rental homes are being built in brick walled communities. The homes may have 400 square feet and they are identical and perhaps 3 feet apart from each other. About 200 tiny homes are built on a tract of land. The government knows that future generations will never be able to afford a home. This has happened over the last couple of years and INFLATION is the culprit of this sad and bleak future for our children.

Also, multiple people in a house can work. We have four people living at our home. One person works and three others have social security. We put our funds together and share expensed equally. It works for us, and we have a decent standard of living. You must be like-minded people and have honest communication.

I am currently living in a suddenly modified cargo van which is me and my musical equipment and some tools partially devoted to piano tuning. I would like to have a permanent structure I don't to be being in just any permanent structure. I can qualify for Section 8 housing if it becomes available but I feel like I'd be stuck in some high-density residential unit with too many other people to disturb. My musical activities and other Pursuits would disturb their TV or I'd be going at something hours that they would not appreciate. Since I live in California houses are out of the question and unfortunately the Yuppies destroyed the live-work loft spaces making them prohibitively expensive for anybody that actually needs them. So the next step as far as anything that I would like to be involved with is to have a lot space that would be a little more industrial than a trailer park but more livable than camping in a storage space. I'd like to have a fenced parking space for my van (ideally with Shore power) and have a shipping container next to it that I could use as a rehearsal studio, a workshop in addition to storage. Also have some good Necessities such as bathroom, laundry, additional food storage, Etc whether private or communal close by.

there are many pluses to living in an RV and for many it's a rational and practical choice -- a "tiny home on wheels" so to speak. I recall seeing destroyed houses in FL due to recent hurricanes and many of these people also not getting insurance companies to pay for the replacement costs. A "mobile dwelling" could have exited the area before the storm as a preventative and then return after the coast is clear -- none the worse for wear. having that kind of option isn't dumb -- it's smart! I can see being "stuck" to a permanent dwelling like being in prison -- you have walls around you, but not sure I'd want that life. the people on the outside I doubt would want to change places with the ones inside. there may be financial reasons why cities, etc. want people to own homes or rent housing. that's to THEIR advantage. but don't penalize people for having a mobile option -- just because you don't make money off of it.

Just because some people leave trash behind and have no respect for the community that shame them doesn't mean everyone without a home does that. Not everyone without a home is on drugs or lazy. Even if it is their own fault they are where they are doesn't make them worthless. Human life is special. All living things should be respected. It seems crazy to me to live in a place that can make it illegal to offer help or food to those who need it. Make it illegal to be homeless. Who does it help knowing that the homeless will be filling up our jails? Does it help to charge those who can not afford the basics in life fees and fines that even those with homes and nice cars struggle to pay? We are punishing people for not being educated, for being born into poverty, for not being as good / smart as we think we are. Maybe if we were not judging and shaming others for not having what we do then they might have some respect for us and not be trashing the communities. Maybe if they had someone to teach them and believe in them then they could get off the streets.

Well it's time to take into our own hands! We must form an organization a nonprofit! That has one goal and one goal only. Is to purchase land and convert it into RV rental spaces. Of course all the infrastructure will have to go in before occupancy. But if it's done right the organization can set itself up to grow and expand RV rental spaces in communities with amenities. Bylaws that keep it from being sold to corporations. The tenants would be part owners with all the profit going in to Park improvements, and expansions as well as the creation of new parks on a regular basis. If you could put a call out for someone to step up as the leader of such a thing it would be extremely helpful. As long as we are aware of and have it written into the bylaws that know form of usurping will take place. No one or any organization will change the bylaws or step out of line for personal profit in any way whatsoever. Go of security and peace of mind!

Forming a co-op is a noble idea, but difficult to do. there is always a risk of greedy players getting involved for personal gain. the co-op would have to have its own by-laws to prevent buy outs from happening. There have been a few success stories of tiny house communities springing up. usually outside municipalities to avoid the red tape. It's sad that we have come to this.

TIME TO CLEAN UP THE TRASH
@myexpressways41063 ай бұрын
Thank you, Joe. Blame is easy to place. Solutions are difficult to find under that perspective. Both Canada and the United States can do better if people are willing to vote for leaders who are solutions-oriented. That requires looking forward with a progressive mind-set. This has become a partisan issue instead of a patriotic stance. The boogy man is not the government civil servant. It is the politician who puts power for themselves above the power of citizens who are struggling to survive. Not everyone who is homeless is an addict. Not everyone who suffered the consequences of economic policies made poor choices. I believe we can and will do better if we develop a sense of true community that has us seeking solutions for those less fortunate than ourselves. I choose to live in my RV, but also struggle with the high cost of RV park prices. Consolidation and corporate ownership seems to be a factor. The market is favoring owners over renters. It is complex. Your initiation of such a conversation is of great value. This is my attempt to identify issues and begin seeking new solutions in a positive manner.

If they close down your RV park, they are doing you a favor. Because now you don't have to pay anything. I have lived in an RV for a couple of years, and have not had to pay a penny to stay anywhere. I spend my time in beautiful areas legally on BLM land and National Forest. I'm currently sitting on the edge of a beautiful lake, completely free and legal.

It's sad what is happening, but, I wouldn't want them blocking the parking spots where no one can visit. I also wouldn't like them walking about half naked, or not disposing their trash in a dumpster. I know that there are decent Van-Lifers, but, there are too many that aren't which ruined it for the rest. With insurance, and, taxes, I'm close to being their myself. I know that Vanning, Car, R.V. living laws are getting where you'll have to go, not outside the City limits, but, outside the Suburbs. The nomads land between cities ...

In Canada, it is now impossible to even have an enjoyable meal out with friends or family at a restaurant simply because their prices are rising so far as to be outpriced by many people who are not earning enough through their wages to afford rent/mortgage, clothes, electricity, water, heat, cooling, cellphone, entertainment/vacations.

If you were to do this, in a matter of weeks the property would look like a war zone with vandalism, violence, and drug use rampant in an unsafe environment. In the past, the state would have institutionalized, housed, and helped these souls, but these days that is considered cruel and thus we have people on the streets that have no skills, or means to cope.

One huge problem is when was the last time you heard someone with a half million dollar home in a lily white suburban home say something like, "Gee, I wish someone would put up a homeless shelter, a prison and a big mental health facility and oh yeah, a big oil facility in our neighborhood. I'm really tired of my house being worth more tomorrow than it is today! And we need more trailer parks in the area!" The prevailing interest isn't in helping those less fortunate. It's in making them all go away. These problems won't be addressed unless the entire economy crashes and a huge majority of people feel the real pain of losing everything.

EXACTLY. Your home is the most important possession you have, bar none. What scares me is people who have sold their homes, then went out and bought a pickup truck and a trailer to Live in "happily ever after". They have sacrificed the ONE thing that affords them financial security and spent it on not one, but TWO, depreciating "assets". Further, most people tire of the full-time life after a few years and will want to go back to a sticks and bricks home in time. But, by then, they have NOTHING. These people don't have the ability to look much into the future. How foolish.

I think part of the problem is the lack of affordable rentals. It used to be that most of the affordable rentals were mom and pop renting out a basement suite. They were an affordable option that took the pressure off the rental market. This isn’t the reality anymore. In BC the landlords have virtually no rights anymore. I was renting my basement suite and ended up with a problem tenant. Let me just say that my security camera showed 300+ visitors in a month. It took months of stress and fear and insane amount of money to evict her for what was egregiously bad behaviour. Even after I was given eviction order, they were allowed to stay on for a few months to give them time to find another place. The rental tenancy branch in BC was not only not helpful, it was clear that they were on the side of the renter and actively obstructionist in helping me navigate this process. Not all landlords have lots of money. I would say that currently the only people who are renting out suites in their home are those who are house poor cannot afford to keep their home if they don’t have the mortgage helper. And the only right they have left is to pick a good and responsible tenant, so you know dam well that no one can afford to give someone going thru a hard time a break. They literally can’t afford to. It took 6 months and 10s of thousands of dollars to repair my home. In this environment is it any wonder that there is a shortage of rentals? The government can offer grants and mortgage options for people to build secondary suites but who is going to do this? Would you?

It’s my guess you’ve never had a slice of humble pie. I’d go so far as to say it’s pretty easy for you isn’t it? I have a home, and I have an RV. Currently used for recreational trips. However I am not so proud and think so high of myself that it makes me immune to the plight of others. Wether you have 20/20 hindsight or blinders life comes along and dishes out some pretty tough hits. Do be careful mocking another, these days aren’t set in stone. North Carolina, Florida and many states have taken major hits. It’s not getting better but worse and people actual people are the ones who suffer all the while others sing the anthems and speak of united we stand, all the while others fall.

Many people do not want to be tied down to one location or one home. This method allows you to have a home and an income. She put 2 kids through college this way.
