I live in Sea Point and see Gary every day. It's fantastic to finally know his story - having not spoken to him directly. He's looking incredibly thin recently, much more so than this video, hopefully he's doing okay... I would love to hear more from him on your podcast - and I'm definitely going to walk down to him and have a conversation!

It's interest how aware he is of his self destructive behavior and still continues it. Makes me think about Human beings and how something may make logical sense, but isn't that simple.

Yep these guys are right it's addiction, that will do that to you. As a former drug addict I can defiantly confirm, I knew it was only doing me bad and I was better of without but I couldn't stop doing it. Very glad and proud to say ive somehow been sober from drugs for 3 years after using for over 10 years from soft to hard drugs and there's no chance I'm ever looking back.

Josh... Thank you for what you do. You really do make us aware of things we aren't aware of and give us a different perspective. Much appreciated because it really opens my mind and makes me think twice when walking past, seeing people at a robot or on the streets.

Those were the days,I used to go to spots like Naans,go in through two steel doors and smoke crack and buttons for 72 hours straight,come out,go home and think it must have been a day later,not three.Gympie street was another spot,but that whole area between the two main roads was full of smokkelhuise.Thank God I managed to get clean and I pray for all the addicts out there that their time will come,likely through jail or hospital.Bless the two of you.

One of my favorite episodes. Gary i believe lives in the tent camp opposite Sea Point police station. I play tennis at 3 Anchor Bay tennis club (which the tent city surrounds) and have often wondered what the stories were of those living in the tent camp. Very very informative

Hi Josh, 1) i find your podcast show quite informative and entertaining. 2) would you be surprised if there are people out there, PRETENDING, to be homeless, just to make “good” money? I mean, if Garry made so much money on a Day. And sometimes, more during one month. Ey, Desperate and “lazy” people hmm? 😅🤷🏻♂️
@wideawakepodcast Жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you and Garry is definitely homeless and I know this because he’s been living in a place called tent city on the side of the road In Sea Point! I think when he said he made 40k a month he meant it was only for a very short time. When he first became homeless there wasn’t many white people living on the streets and I think people gave him more money then they would to other homeless people but now it has become normal to see white homeless people! Another thing is that he isn’t able to save any of it because he has a bad drug problem and as soon as he makes money he spends it on substances! I hope that answers your question! 🙏🏼

@@xcpointx I live in the CT CBD, and have done so for twelve years. R1000 is R100 an hour. Who uses cash these days to give people money?
@xcpointx Жыл бұрын
@@The_Angry_BeEconomist It's more the once a day windfalls that make that 40k. It only takes a couple people to drop R200. It happens a lot at high traffic intersections. These guys aren't really interested in the small R10 handouts.
@The_Angry_BeEconomist Жыл бұрын
@@xcpointx I live in Cape Town CBD, and I know many homeless by name in the City, trust me people look past homeless people, and I've been living in the City for 12 years. And not to mention there is the CCID who harass the homeless, making it difficult for them to beg.

I'm a waitress and most of my tips throughout the day is approximately R10- R20 per table. I work 5 days a week and make more than 20k per month. So I think it's highly likely. A lot of people give homeless people 5 to R10 so it could be possible.
