Is the greatest boat hull ever made out of aluminum in my opinion was the tracker avalanche in the early and mid 2000s. it was a one piece hull that was hydro formed by Boeing for tracker. if you can get your hands-on 1 of those hulls I feel it's 1 of the best hulls ever made.

i told them what profile i wanted on the sides and that i wanted a 56 inch bottom with rounded chines and they sent me a pic for my approval. price will vary based on hull size but they charged a flat fee for bending it. i think it was 500 but that saves a lot of time and welding... well worth it.

ha. no secret. BUT i didnt submit any measurements, just explained to him with general numbers over the phone and described what i wanted the profile and radius to look like and he sent me back a proof. Unfortunately, that guy retired and i dont think the new salesman at that place will do that anymore. i believe they require some formal drawings with measurements. I built another one not long ago and told them i wanted the same profile as this one and he made it happen then too.

It all depends on the size of the boat you build/size of metal. I don’t really want to say the price, especially since the price fluctuates so much with aluminum. I will say there is no comparison to building vs buying if you are willing to put in the extra effort to make a premium boat. I saved about 75% from what you would pay for the premium boats on the market.

Great video, I love the finish product. I’ve been welding for 20 plus years. Been thinking of building my own, verses buying a Seaark Catfish boat. Did you do a price comparison , building verses buying?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms 5 ай бұрын
absolutely. materials will be cheaper for sure. if you factor in your time though, you will have as much invested as a cookie cutter boat. for example, i could go buy an allweld just as cheap as i built this boat, but it wont be made as well or as custom as i want. [nothing against allwelds, they are great boats] BUT if you take your time, you can have something that is comparable to a prodigy or timber creek... and at a fraction of the cost. so the real savings come where you are willing to go the extra mile. there is a reason that some boats cost 10,000 and others of the similar size cost 40,000. on top of all that, its awesome to put your personal stamp of homemade on a boat... and know every inch of the welds are by YOU. good luck with it!

I am building a boat and planning on doing the exact same thing you did to the front with the bottom of the boat. Can you explain a little more detail the wedge you cut out to give it that point? I know you went back 5 feet into the aluminum but how wide was the piece you cut out it at the top? Was it a curve or a straight wedge?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms 2 жыл бұрын
It ended up being about 6 inches at the front. It has a slight curve in the cut, it’s not straight. The easiest way to say it would be to mark your v straight and then get about half way and measure in to the middle of the v about an inch. If you make a continuous curve from the front to back and intersect that mark, it will be about the right curve. I would certainly get a piece of cardboard make a template though. For your template you could do one side of your curve and then fold it down the middle and mark your other side so it’s an exact match. I hope all that makes sense.

My hull is 1/8. Easily weldable with a spoolgun. I rebuilt a Jon boat and used 14 gauge to skin in. It welded nice but it wasn’t easy. Had a few blow throughs and if it wasn’t a really tight fit I had to spurt spurt spurt a couple places. So I would say that’s about as thin as I can effectively run. Fresh clean 1/8 is a joy to weld. Looks as good as tig in most places. Also, I’m over by Andalusia

@@MultiShannonb I just described what I wanted. The Broussard location is the deal. I called a couple of closer ones and they weren’t much help.

Do happen to remember who you talked to? I called today and told me it has to be all wrote out for what you want. I called the Broussard place. I guess it depends what “sales person” you get.

@@MrGmcz71502 it definitely does. I talked to Frank but I’m pretty sure he retired like a month ago. He was the deal. I have talked to other “salesmen” there and they told me the same thing. I’m not sure which ones would be the helpful ones now that he is retired.

I'm guessing you asked the metal company to bend a whole sheet of aluminum into the bottom of the boat?? Maybe I missed you explaining this?
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms 2 жыл бұрын
Yes. I told them the profile I wanted and he bent it. He can cut the sheet before he does it though so you don’t have the whole piece in that shape. In other words, you can have a flat piece of a drop if you don’t want the whole length.

Awesome videos man. I’m building something similar to a gator tail 1750 with a mod v. Are you satisfied with the size V that you cut out? Or would you make any changes if you were to do it again? I noticed it looked like there was a slight dimple where the v meets the flat after you brought the sides up. Also, how is that transom style holding up. I’ll be mounting a gator tail surface drive and this seems to be the same transom design
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms
@JackArmstrong-jackdaddycustoms Жыл бұрын
Nice. The size v is good and another guy borrowed my template and cut his the same and loves it as well. Mine did have a slight dimple but it doesn’t protrude deep enough to hurt anything. The transom is great so far and I think it would be just fine for a shaking mud motor. lol. I wish I could have a mud motor on this one but we can’t where we hunt. Good luck and reach out if you have any questions.

@@dmanhonda2 I didn’t have any plans. I just had an idea of I what I wanted. I looked at my favorite part from a lot of the quality boat builders and tried to put them into one. When I talked to pierce aluminum I told him that I wanted my hull be like a mix between a havoc and an excell f4 except with flat bottom and rounded chines. He made it happen. Much of the inside I designed similar to some prodigy and timber creek and the transom is similar to timber creek and prodrive. Just new want I wanted and went to it with cardboard.
