This is my homemade black drawing salve. It’s good for drawing infection out of minor cuts, scrapes, bug bites and slivers.
Black Drawing Salve Recipe.
Infused oil
A gallon of Broad Leaf Plantain cut up (see my apothecary video to show what it looks like)
A pint of marigold leaves cut up
A six inch strip of Birch bark
Place all ingredients in a quart jar and cover with Sunflower oil. Place in a sunny spot for 4 weeks. Shaking occasionally.
1 cup of infused oil ( see above )
1/3 cup beeswax
2 tablespoons of activated charcoal
2 tablespoons of bentonite clay
2 tablespoons of raw honey
1 teaspoon of pine tar
Heat oil slowly in a jar placed in a pot of water (double boiler). Then add the beeswax. Stir continuously with a bamboo skewer until wax is melted. Then add the charcoal and clay. Stir till incorporated. Remove from heat and add the honey and pine tar. Continue to stir until it starts to set up. Then transfer to half pint jars or tins to finish cooling. When salve has set up cap with lids and store in a cool place.

My grandmother spent most of her early life in poverty and she had all sorts of natural remedies. She always said pine pitch would heal a boil. It’s great to see what I heard as a child refined and improved! She also said squirt breast milk into a child’s eye for conjunctivitis! Thank you for your channel!

Black drawing salve (the OTC stuff) has probably saved my and my daughter's lives... I was prone to boils on my nether regions and legs, terrible staph infections, and my eldest daughter inherited the condition (once I hit 40 or so, and also lost weight/ate healthier, I stopped suffering from them). Black salve was always the thing to use. So knowing that I can whip up a batch is a comfort, considering the hard times on the way.

I don’t believe it will reverse an allergic reaction. As an allergic reaction is an immune system deal. This is more for drawing infection out of a wound. I would stock up on Benadryl, if an epi-pen isn’t available the Benadryl may buy you precious time

Is this rhe equivalent of Ickthamol Ointment? I have HS... my immune system attacks my sweat and lymph glands causing frequent multiple infections and (after I had surgery, of course) I found that Ickthamol Ointment, sometimes called Drawing Salve, was suitable to control the fake infections (theirs no bacteria involved... just a bazaar immune response) and alleviates the pain, swelling and scaring. But, I'm having trouble finding it. If this is the same stuff... It would be a WONDERFUL addition to my natural medicine arsenal. 🙏
@ModernRefugee

I cannot answer that unfortunately. I have never heard of that ointment. I put the recipe in the description so you know what the ingredients are, if you would like to look and cross reference.
@PaulaJoDavis

YES, IT IS! It is exactly the ingredients in Icthymmol . But you can't find it anymore....you have to buy PRID. Basically (but not natural) the same as icthymmol salve.
@jeas4980
@jeas4980 4 жыл бұрын
@@PaulaJoDavis Correct.. I just did a cross reference of ingredients... and the clay you use is the "Ickthammol" or the active ingredient in the commercial salve. They "hydrolize in oil" (whatever that means) a benzionite slate. It probably means they soak it in Vitamin E oil. But I think you just saved me from surgery. Holy cow... this is fantastic!!!

@@donnamills3646 Aww that's so sweet. I've been living with recurrent HS flares for 25 years now. They come and go. I had the surgery about 7 years ago in my rt underarm. The recovery was so brutal I opted out of the next 3 they had planned. I've been controlling the condition with black salve for the last 6 years. I still get the infections and they're still painful.. but I can reduce the duration and I've ended trips to the surgeon. The flares have become less and less frequent over time... leading me to believe that there maybe a "toxicity" component to the condition and not just a misfiring of the immune system. Needless to say I'm good as long as I can keep this salve in the medicine cabinet. 🙏💚

I just wanna say that regular charcoal powdered up isn’t activated charcoal. Activated charcoal goes through a special heat process(sometimes chemical) to increase it’s surface area even more than regular charcoal. It does the same thing but the activated is much stronger.

What brand of sunflower oil do you use? Can any birch bark be used? I have river birch growing in my back yard. One last question, did you use the outer layer of bark or did you peel further down into the tree?
@ModernRefugee
@ModernRefugee 4 жыл бұрын
Authentic Menu is the brand of sunflower oil, I’m using right now. It’s marked non gmo. Sunflower oil is getting harder to find in recent months. Paper bark birch is what I use. I use the whole bark. I found a tree that blew down in a storm, and harvested it. I strip the bark down to the wood carefully and use the whole thing. I will also grade the bark for teas and the wood I use for bushcraft projects like kuksas. If I took bark from a living tree, I would only take the outer layer as to not harm the tree. I hope this helps you out.
