Our stockings were made of felt, by my Mom, each with decorations that were special and different. We always had a handful of nuts in the toe of the sock (shaped more like a boot), an orange, some golden coins (chocolate candies shaped like coins), and a small gift; as we aged into being able to read independently, these became a book. My mom was no dummy...this kept us quiet for a good long while as we settled into the couch or back into our beds with a piece of candy and a book to read. Wonderful memories! Thanks!

That's a beautiful memory of the stockings! I grew up with getting an apple, orange, nuts, and a little of my favorite candy. I'd sometimes get a book, and when I was a teenager my Mom would put a music cassette of a favorite band. I still have my one & only stocking, and I'm 49 lol. Giving your siblings that gift of a sweet memory is truly beautiful! I told my husband that we need stuff to make Almond Joys & Mounds now. He said "are you really making those?!?! Yay!!!" Apparently, he loves those! ❤

My parents always used a new pair of socks for our stocking so we had new socks to wear Christmas morning. We always got 2 pieces of candy and an orange. We also waited anxiously to see what plant momma had chosen to start and nature just for us. I was born in 1957 and times were much simpler. Every year she chose what plant she wanted us each to get and we treasured that. My favorite year I got a Christmas cactus and it bloomed for Easter! Special memories indeed.

I remember these days Vickie and I passed it down to my daughter then her grandchildren as time went in as the kids hit much older I would add a little toy or fun game but yes I too was born in 1961 and they were 3 brothers and there were 4 girls but times were hard as we were poor but I can remember there were times my mother would pop a big metal tub full of pop corn to make garland and paper garland from craft paper we got from school some times we colored just a brown paper bag to make the garland for the tree plus we would eat in it fun memories

We never got stockings as a child. We got to go to our local American Legion and see Santa, then they would give us a paper bag with Apples, Oranges, peanuts in the shell and peppermint sticks. It was always such a joy to receive. I can still remember opening the bag and how fragrant the orange would be,. How something so simple brought a smile of Thanksgiving.

WE used our knee socks and got nuts, fruits and new underwear and socks. Daddy loved the soft peppermint sticks and we got those in our socks. The orange and apple would stretch our sock down long due to the weight. I was born in 1961.

I was born in 1958 in Michigan. We used our own socks. We'd go in our drawer and find the biggest sock we could find. Mine was usually a knee sock. We usually got a popcorn ball and candy and a few dime store toys like a jump rope, jacks, yoyo, slinky and crayons. Those were the good days.☺

Had socks for Christmas well actually felt ones that looked like Santa's boot. These were made by my mom and grandma. I was born in 1949 and I looked forward to that boot every Christmas. Ours had an apple, tangerine, orange, walnuts and the mostt thin and delicate ribbon candy that had a flavor of lifesavers, cherry, orange etc. etc.. it also had a little wrapped up package of the two Christmas cookies you got to have for breakfast. I miss that smell of Christmas. The fruits and fresh made cookies on Christmas morning. Also, I am so going to make the candy bars tomorrow as I have everything here. Thank you for a great recipe Aunt Vickie and an easy one too.❤

2 brothers and me. As the only girl I usually got like a girly type of toy in my stocking, like a little doll or something and a small bottle of perfume along with a LifeSaver book of LifeSavers (OMG my fave) we usually got oranges (found out later, I'm allergic to all citrus fruits) and candy canes (I hate candy canes) too. I also remember we were allowed to open one gift on Christmas Eve and the rest had to be opened on Christmas morning, no exceptions Stockings were for Christmas morning too Those candies look so good. I'm going to add them to my goodies I make for my sons' dialysis nurses next year. Already got everything for their goodies this year

Thanks Vickie for the recipe and for sharing your Christmas memory !! I grew up on a farm and we were pretty poor ! We never got stockings of any kind but what we did get was every year momma would sit us down with the Sears catalog turned to the page or pages she could afford to buy off of and each of us 4 kids would get to choose 1 gift in the price range usually $2-$3 items to choose from and that would be our only Christmas gift under the tree on Christmas morning !! But we were always very happy with our gift and growing up in Florida we always had oranges snd grapefruit so momma would make a big fruit salad in a gallon jar to enjoy for several days and she would bake a chicken and make mashed potatoes and either corn or green beans and cornbread or biscuits for our Christmas meal and she would have made a pie or a cake of some kind !!

I bought the ingredients to make the cracker candy that you showed in a previous video. I plan to give them to my coworkers. Now I plan to try these candies as well! My granddaddy and grandmommy used to give all the grandkids the same thing for Christmas. It wasn't in a stocking (they just used those plastic produce bags from the market). But we always got an orange, a red apple, a mixture of nuts (pecan, almond, salnut and hazelnut), butterscotch candy, and peppermints. Wow, you brought back a fond memory from my childhood. Thank you for that trip down memory lane. 🙂 Merry (early) Christmas Auntie Vickie and family! 🎄

Aunt Vickie, your bowls for this video are festive! 🎅🤶🧑‍🎄🎄 My favorite memory was Mom making holiday candy. My favorite was Divinity. Yum! My grandmother would knit little decorations, meant for a tree, and put them on our gifts instead of bows. How I wish I still had mine!

Born in 65. I know we hung stockings on the electric fireplace (lol! It hung on the wall and plugged in next to it. The cord ALWAYS showed!). I can honestly say I do NOT recall a stuffed stocking. Now we did get those meshed stockings with the candy in them. They hung on the tree, right above our “from Santa gift” he only brought one, and it was unwrapped. The rest of the gifts were from mom and dad.
