I’ve been using this recipe for the last (almost) ten years. It’s my go to. Hi, No you can add a cup of chopped nuts. Just sprinkle them into the pans after you add the batter to each pan. Because the batter is so wet it will be better to do it that way. Or what I would do and have done in the past is add a whole layer of chopped nuts around the outside of the cake after I frost it. YUM!

Difference between Latinos and Italians and Americans: Latinos and Italians use butter to bake cake and pastries...we never use oil to bake unless it's the only option...but I love Sugar...she is an amazing cook

I appreciate the compliment. But putting aside any ethnic norms, vegetable oil is superior for consistency in many baked recipes and as much as I like olive oil (actually from a fruit), it's not the right flavor for this cake. Try this with butter and compare. Let us know if you like the flavor or texture better with butter. I have not tried it, even though I'm 100% Italian. :)

I didn't even know that Hershey 's made dark chocolate cocoa powder! I've bought their regular chocolate cocoa powder before but I don't remember any dark chocolate cocoa powder or I probably would have bought it. I'll bet a cake would taste good with both cocoa powders mixed together!
